Depending on the synthetic method, the heteroatom-doped hexagonal B nitride (h-BN) catalysts can have different configurational entropies possessing various at. short-range orderings or phase separations, leading to complex grain boundaries for catalytic reactions. Herein, several C and O co-doped h-BN (BCNO) catalysts with different at. orderings were synthesized from the ternary deep eutectic solvents (DES). The exptl. results indicated the low steric resistance DES induced high-entropy structures (HES) in the BCNO, which involved a high d. of grain boundaries. The HES was studied as a catalytic booster for the radical initiation of aerobic oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of diesel. As a result, the optimized BCNO catalyzed ODS process owned the shortest induction period, rendering the complete aerobic oxidation of refractory S compounds in 6 h.

The development of novel dithienylethene-based complexes is highly desirable for potential application in the photoresponsive optoelectronics. In this contribution, the authors designed and prepared four novel dithienylethene-containing isocyanides 9a9d and their binuclear Au(I) complexes 3a3d with various alkyl chains. They were fully characterized and confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 19F NMR, and HRMS (ESI-TOF). Upon alternating irradiation with UV light at 302 nm and visible light at 530 nm, these isocyanides and corresponding Au(I) complexes displayed good photochromic behavior. And the slight effect of the length of alkyl chains on photochromic properties of these isocyanides and Au(I) complexes was observed Also, compared to the precursors 9a9d, their Au(I) complexes 3a3d showed higher molar absorptivities for ring-open isomers, closing rate and cycloreversion quantum yields. Au(I) complexes displayed much more excellent fatigue resistance compared with that of isocyanides. Accordingly, these results further proved the formation of Au(I) complexes can promote photochromic behavior to some extent.

Moreover, the wavelength of the visible excitation light can be easily modulated (e.g., from 405 to 470 nm) by elaborate selection of matched sensitized mols. The “write-and-erase” application of this photochromic system in polymer films is further demonstrated. This strategy provides a simple and versatile selection of well-matched DAE/sensitizer couples for visible-light photochromism without complicated mol. design.

Infinite coordination polymers are recognized as excellent platform for functionalization. Dithienylethene motifs, which are one of the most attractive functional moieties, were incorporated into an infinite coordination polymer, to deliver a smart porous material that can response to external stimuli. The obtained dithienylethene-based infinite coordination polymers (named Cu-DTEDBA) share the advantages of both infinite coordination polymers (porosity and stability) and dithienylethene motifs (photochromism). The phys. and chem. properties of Cu-DTEDBA were characterized by FTIR, TEM, SEM, XRD, TGA, UV-visible, EDX and BET. Also, the combination of dithienylethene and infinite coordination polymers gives rise to a synergistic effect, which induces functional behaviors of ammonia sensor applications. Both open and closed forms of Cu-DTEDBA exhibit distinct colorimetric change upon exposure to gaseous ammonia, which is not observed in dithienylethene free mols.
