Organic air pollutants have considerable influence particularly on atmospheric chemistry, compared to other air pollutants. Traffic is one of the major sources of air pollutants occurred in Canakkale atmosphere by both remarkable road and marine traffic loads around the harbors. The aims of this study were finding the daily, week/weekend, and spatial variations of VOC at multiple sampling points of Canakkale and Kilitbahir. In this study, active air samples were collected from the major roads of Kilitbahir and Canakkale Harbors during rush hours and off-peak in 2018 summer. According to the measurement results, average levels of total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) were around 129 mu g/m(3) in Canakkale and 93 mu g/m(3) in Kilitbahir. Toluene was the most abundant compound. Average B: T: E: X ratio was calculated as 2.4:7.0:1:5.5 in Canakkale and 3.2:7.6:1:5.2 in Kilitbahir. According to the sampling points of both locations, levels of TVOC, benzene, toluene, and m,p-xylene in Canakkale and toluene levels in Kilitbahir showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Also, benzene, which was already classified as a human carcinogen, varied diurnally in Kilitbahir (p < 0.05). Toluene levels varied between week and weekend days (p < 0.05). Moreover, measured VOC levels were compared with air quality monitoring station (AQMS) data and meteorological parameters. TVOC levels showed positive correlations with SO2 and PM10 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, a multivariate factor analysis applied to data set including VOC measurements, AQMS data, and meteorological parameters implied that traffic is the predominant factor influencing the air quality around the study sites. V2O5/TiO2-SiO2-MoO3 (TSM) catalysts exhibit enhanced redox capabilities, but the role of each species in the mixed oxide support is not well understood. Herein, the physicochemical characteristics of molybdenum oxide in TSM were investigated using X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy, and the performance of V/TSM catalysts for the oxidative decomposition of o-chlorotoluene was examined. The V/TSM catalysts exhibited superior performances in this decomposition reaction at low temperatures. The molybdenum species were highly dispersed as Mo6+, replacing Ti4+ in the anatase TiO2 framework and forming a solid solution. The redox capability of the vanadium species in the catalyst was enhanced by electron transfer from the TSM support to vanadium, likely due to the coexistence of Mo6+ and Ti(4+ )in the TSM solid solution, which has a unique structure. These results are expected to contribute to enhancing the abatement of dioxins at low temperatures.

Our condition provides a convenient protocol for the synthesis of a diverse collection of 2-mercaptobenzothiazoles and 6-(4-substituted-1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)-2-mercaptobenzothiazoles with a very simple purification process. Supported palladium-gold alloy-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl chlorides and hydrosilanes enabled the selective formation of aryl-silicon bonds. Whereas a monometallic palladium catalyst predominantly promoted the hydrodechlorination of aryl chlorides and gold nanoparticles showed no catalytic activity, gold-rich palladium-gold alloy nanoparticles efficiently catalyzed the title reaction to give arylsilanes with high selectivity. A wide array of aryl chlorides and hydrosilanes participated in the heterogeneously-catalyzed reaction to furnish the corresponding arylsilanes in 34-80% yields. A detailed mechanistic investigation revealed that palladium and gold atoms on the surface of alloy nanoparticles independently functioned as active sites for the formation of aryl nucleophiles and silyl electrophiles, respectively, which indicates that palladium and gold atoms on alloy nanoparticles work together to enable the selective formation of aryl-silicon bonds.

SRC is a major regulator of many signaling pathways and contributes to cancer development. However, development of a selective SRC inhibitor has been challenging, and FDA-approved SRC inhibitors, dasatinib and bosutinib, are multitargeted kinase inhibitors. Here, we describe our efforts to develop a selective SRC covalent inhibitor by targeting cysteine 277 on the P-loop of SRC. Using a promiscuous covalent kinase inhibitor (CKI) SM1-71 as a starting point, we developed covalent inhibitor 15a, which discriminates SRC from other covalent targets of SM1-71 including TAK1 and FGFR1. As an irreversible covalent inhibitor, compound 15a exhibited sustained inhibition of SRC signaling both in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, 15a exhibited potent antiproliferative effects in nonsmall cell lung cancer cell lines harboring SRC activation, thus providing evidence that this approach may be promising for further drug development efforts.

The adsorption behaviors of Cu(II) and tetracycline (TC) on polyethylene microplastics that were exposed to air (A-PE-MPs), water (W-PE-MPs) and soil (S-PE-MPs) environments for a long time were investigated with batch experiments in this study. FT-IR and GC-MS analysis confirmed that phthalates (PAEs) were released from PE microplastics after exposure to UV light. When exposed to water and soil environments, PE microplastics were colonized by microorganisms and biofilms were formed on their surface. Compared with virgin microplastics (V-PE-MPs), the environment-exposed microplastics possessed higher adsorption and stabilization capacity for Cu (II) and TC. The adsorption isotherm data of V-PE-MPs and A-PE-MPs were well fitted by Freundlich model, whilst the adsorption by W-PE-MPs and S-PE-MPs were better described by Langmuir model. The Boyd equation used in kinetic experiments revealed that V-PE-MPs and A-PE-MPs were additionally affected by intra-particle diffusion compared with W-PE-MPs and S-PE-MPs. The glycosyl composition analysis suggested that the higher adsorption capacities of S-PE-MPs than W-PE-MPs could relate to the different components of extracellular polysaccharides in biofilms. Moreover, density functional theory further verified that Cu(II) and PAE adsorption on microplastics could be enhanced by the generation of Cu-PAE and Cu-PAE-TC complexes. In addition dissolved organic matter exerted opposite effects on the adsorption onto A-PE-MPs and S-PE-MPs due to their different affinity for Cu(II), TC and DOM. This study demonstrated that the contribution of microplastics to heavy metal and antibiotic migration could be affected by the way they exposed to environments.

The development of highly active and reusable supported catalysts for Suzuki-Miyaura coupling and catalytic C-H arylation is important for fundamental and applied chemistry, with these reactions being used to produce medical compounds and functional materials. Herein, we found that a mesoporous composite made of a linear poly(4-vinylpyridine) and tetrachloropalladate acted as a dual-mode catalyst for a variety of cross-coupling reactions, with both Pd nanoparticles and a Pd complex catalyst being observed under different conditions. The polyvinylpyridine-palladium composite1was readily prepared via the molecular convolution of poly(4-vinylpyridine) and sodium tetrachloropalladate to provide a hardly soluble polymer-metal composite. The Suzuki-Miyaura coupling and the C-H arylation of aryl chlorides and bromides with arylboronic acids, thiophenes, furans, benzene, and anisole proceeded in the presence of 0.004 mol% (40 mol ppm) to 1 mol% Pd of1to afford the corresponding coupling products in high yields. Furthermore, the catalyst was reused without an appreciable loss of activity. Pharmaceutical compounds and functional materials were synthesized via the coupling reactions. N(2)gas adsorption/desorption analysis indicated that the catalyst had a mesoporous nature, which played a crucial role in the catalysis. In the Suzuki-Miyaura couplings,in situgenerated palladium nanoparticles in the polymer matrix were catalytically active, while a polymeric Pd(II) complex was crucial in the C-H arylations. These catalytic species were investigated via XAFS, XPS, far-infrared absorption, and Raman spectroscopies, as well as DFT calculations.

The challenging nickel-catalyzed mono-alpha-arylation of acetone with aryl chlorides, pivalates, and carbamates has been achieved for the first time. A nickel/Josiphos-based catalytic system is shown to feature unique catalytic behavior, allowing the highly selective formation of the desired mono-alpha-arylated acetone. The developed methodology was applied to a variety of (hetero)aryl chlorides including biologically relevant derivatives. The methodology has been extended to the unprecedented coupling of acetone with phenol derivatives. Mechanistic studies allowed the isolation and characterization of key Ni(0)and Ni(II)catalytic intermediates. The Josiphos ligand is shown to play a key role in the stabilization of Ni(II)intermediates to allow a Ni-0/Ni(II)catalytic pathway. The presence of organic compounds in drinking water is well recognized in many developing countries; however, the occurrence of organic contaminants in the groundwater of Saudi Arabia, which is the main source of drinking water in the country, is not well documented. A national comprehensive study was carried out to assess the occurrence of organic compounds in groundwater wells used for drinking water purpose, in different regions of Saudi Arabia. A total of 993 well water samples were collected from all 13 administrative regions of the kingdom. Samples were analyzed for a total of 131 organic compounds using the standard methods. The results indicated that total organic carbon values were in the range of 0.01 to 84.13 mg/L with an average weighted value of 12.61 mg/L. Organic compounds were detected in only 9 regions, with 19.84% of the samples containing organic compounds. Only 96 wells (9.67%) showed contents of organic compounds above the safe limits. Pesticides were not detected in any of the well water samples. Overall, organic compounds were found in only 197 out of 993 wells (19.84%) in the whole country. Most of the wells containing organic compounds were located in residential, industrial, and agriculture areas. Riyadh region and Eastern Province were found to have the most affected wells as compared to other regions. Several regions did not show any organic compounds in the well waters. It can be said that the problem of groundwater contamination with organic compounds in Saudi Arabia is not acute and is manageable at present. It is, however, recommended that a regular monitoring of drinking water wells of all regions should be carried out by the competent authorities for organic compounds to know any contamination if and when it happens. Preventing such contaminants from reaching drinking water sources and protecting drinking water well heads from such contaminants remains a priority.
