Super-microporous micelle-templated platinum on silica catalysts were successfully prepared by an improved one-pot procedure, using a water/acetonitrile/n-dodecylamine mixture The catalyst showed high surface area and narrow pore size and was further characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The unique super-microporous materials were proven to be highly active for the microwave-assisted hydrosilylation reaction of terminal alkenes or alkynes using dichloromethylsilane as silicon source. The super-microporous structure was beneficial for the control of hydrosilylation regioselectivity, as the selectivity to the β-adduct reached 99%. Moreover, the catalyst could be easily recovered by simple filtration and re-used seven times without appreciable loss of activity and selectivity.

In order to investigate the structure-activity relationship and improve the activity of herbicidal lead compound 2-sec-butylamino-5-(2-chloropyrid-4-yl)-1,3,4-thiodiazole (BCPT), which was found in previous work on pyridine derivatives, a novel series of N-(1-carbomethoxy) ethyl-N-[5-(2-chloropyrid-4-yl)-1,3,4-thiodiazol-2-yl] amides were synthesized and subjected to post-emergence herbicidal tests. All the compounds showed much weaker herbicidal activity than BCPT itself. The results suggested that BCPT might act to herbs in different way to amide herbicides.

Abstract: Small auxin-up RNAs (SAURs) comprise a large multigene family and are rapidly activated as part of the primary auxin response in plants. However, little is known about the role of SAURs in plant growth and development, especially in monocots. Here, we report the biol. function of OsSAUR45 in the model plant rice (Oryza sativa). OsSAUR45 is expressed in a tissue-specific pattern and is localized to the cytoplasm. Rice lines overexpressing OsSAUR45 displayed pleiotropic developmental defects including reduced plant height and primary root length, fewer adventitious roots, narrower leaves, and reduced seed setting. Auxin levels and transport were reduced in the OsSAUR45 overexpression lines, potentially because of decreased expression of Flavin-binding monooxygenase family proteins (OsYUCCAs) and PIN-FORMED family proteins (OsPINs). Exogenous auxin application rapidly induced OsSAUR45 expression and partially restored the phenotype of rice lines overexpressing OsSAUR45. These results demonstrate that OsSAUR45 is involved in plant growth by affecting auxin synthesis and transport through the repression of OsYUCCA and OsPIN gene expression in rice.

2,3-Dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-one (DDMP) exists in many foods, and its effect on taste is controversial. The aim of this study was to clarify whether DDMP has bitter taste or not. For this purpose, DDMP was synthesized from maltol instead of from glucose for the first time. In contrast, DDMP derived from glucose was also prepared and further purified. Their structures were identified by NMR and MS, and considered to be the same substance. The sensory anal. showed that DDMP derived from maltol was tasteless. Further studies indicated that some impurities in Maillard reaction made DDMP derived from glucose taste bitter.

Lamin A contributes to the structure of nuclei in all mammalian cells and plays an important role in cell division and migration. Mature lamin A is derived from a farnesylated precursor protein, known as prelamin A, which undergoes posttranslational cleavage catalyzed by the zinc metalloprotease STE24 (ZPMSTE24).
