The method was applied to pharmaceutical formulations. The method was statistically validated and is found to be precise and accurate.

A simple and sensitive sequential injection spectrophotometric procedure is proposed for the determination of trace amounts of iodide in pharmaceutical preparations The method was based on the catalytic effect of iodide on the (tetra base) 4,4′-methylene bis(N,N-dimethylaniline)chloramine-T reaction in acidic solution The method involves a sequential aspiration of 255 μl sample/standard followed by 170 μl tetra base and then 128 μl chloramine-T solutions into a carrier stream to be stacked inside a holding coil and flow reversed through a reaction coil towards a detector. The resulting colored compound was measured at 600 nm using an UV/Vis-spectrophotometer. All the parameters that affected the reaction were evaluated and the calibration curve was linear over a range of 0.1-6.0 μg l-1 of iodide concentration with detection limit of 0.05 μg l-1. A sample throughput of 80 samples per h and relative standard deviation of less than 2.0% was achieved. The method was successfully applied for the determination of iodide in three different samples (tablets).

Smidt, Hauke published the artcileTranscriptional regulation of the cpr gene cluster in ortho-chlorophenol-respiring Desulfitobacterium dehalogenans, COA of Formula: C8H7ClO3, the publication is Journal of Bacteriology (2000), 182(20), 5683-5691, database is CAplus and MEDLINE.

To characterize the expression and possible regulation of reductive dehalogenation in halorespiring bacteria, a 11.5-kb genomic fragment containing the o-chlorophenol reductive dehalogenase-encoding cprBA genes of the gram-pos. bacterium Desulfitobacterium dehalogenans was subjected to detailed mol. characterization. Sequence anal. revealed the presence of eight designated genes with the order cprTKZEBACD and with the same polarity except for cprT. The deduced cprC and cprK gene products belong to the NirI/NosR and CRP-FNR families of transcription regulatory proteins, resp. CprD and CprE are predicted to be mol. chaperones of the GroEL type, whereas cprT may encode a homolog of the trigger factor folding catalysts. Northern blot anal., reverse transcriptase PCR, and primer extension anal. were used to elucidate the transcriptional organization and regulation of the cpr gene cluster. Results indicated halorespiration-specific transcriptional induction of the monocistronic cprT gene and the biscistronic cprBA and cprZE genes. Occasional read-through at cprC gives rise to a tetracistronic cprBACD transcript. Transcription of cprBA was induced 15-fold upon addition of the o-chlorophenolic substrate 3-chloro-4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid within 30 min with concomitant induction of dehalogenation activity. Putative regulatory protein binding motifs that to some extent resemble the FNR box were identified in the cprT-cprK and cprK-cprZ intergenic regions and the promoter at cprB, suggesting a role for FNR-like CprK in the control of expression of the cprTKZEBACD genes.

The synthesis of fused imidazolidines, e.g., I (x-ray single crystal structure shown), via two N-C bond-forming sequences has been developed. The transformation goes through a (3 + 2)-cycloaddition reaction in the presence of catalytic amounts of palladium by combining several vinyl aziridines and cyclic N-sulfonyl imines. Interestingly, the use of LiCl as additive allowed the improvement of diastereoselectivities when less encumbered substrates were used. The imidazolidine derivatives that bear aminal cores are isolated in high yields (15 examples, up to 96% yield) and diastereoselectivities (up to >20:1).

This paper reports the surface modification of hydrophilic γ-Al2O3/anatase-TiO2 multilayer membranes by a silane coupling treatment, to obtain nanofiltration (NF) membranes applicable in non-polar solvents. Special care was given to optimization of the pore structure of the anatase top layer (microporous-mesoporous) and selection of the reaction medium (Et acetate) and silane coupling reagent ((CH3)2SiCl2, C1 silane; C8H17CH3SiCl2, C8 silane). Hexane and water permeability were studied before and after silane treatment as an indication of the effect of the modification. No hexane permeability was obtained before modification. For microporous membranes fired at 300°C, the internal pore structure remained hydrophilic upon silane treatment, as evidenced by the fact that the hexane permeability remained zero. On the contrary, the more open membrane structure with mesopores obtained by firing at temperatures higher than 400°C, could be modified by a silane coupling reaction at the internal pore structure. The ratio of permeability, hexane/water, was altered from 0/1 for a firing at 300°C and a C1 silane treatment to 1/0 for a firing at 500°C and a C8 silane treatment. Standard PEG-retention measurements in water showed that the membranes fired at 400 and 450°C and modified with a C8 and C1 silane, resp., have pore sizes corresponding to those of nanofiltration (NF) membranes. These membranes were characterized by a mol. weight cut-off (MWCO) of 410 and a hexane permeability of 3 L.h-1.m-2.bar-1 (400-C8) and a MWCO of 650 and a hexane permeability of 5 L.h-1.m-2.bar-1 (450-C1).

Mitochondrial complex I (CI), the first multiprotein enzyme complex of the OXPHOS system, executes a major role in cellular ATP generation. Consequently, dysfunction of this complex has been linked to inherited metabolic disorders, including Leigh disease (LD), an often fatal disease in early life. Development of clin. effective treatments for LD remains challenging due to the complex pathophysiol. nature. Treatment with the peroxisome proliferation-activated receptor (PPAR) agonist bezafibrate improved disease phenotype in several mitochondrial disease mouse models mediated via enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis and fatty acid β-oxidation However, the therapeutic potential of this mixed PPAR (α, δ/β, γ) agonist is severely hampered by hepatotoxicity, which is possibly caused by activation of PPARγ. Here, we aimed to investigate the effects of the PPARα-specific fibrate clofibrate in mitochondrial CI-deficient (Ndufs4-/-) mice. Clofibrate increased lifespan and motor function of Ndufs4-/- mice, while only marginal hepatotoxic effects were observed Due to the complex clin. and cellular phenotype of CI-deficiency, we also aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential of clofibrate combined with the redox modulator KH176. As described previously, single treatment with KH176 was beneficial, however, combining clofibrate with KH176 did not result in an additive effect on disease phenotype in Ndufs4-/- mice. Overall, both drugs have promising, but independent and nonadditive, properties for the pharmacol. treatment of CI-deficiency-related mitochondrial diseases.

The electrochem. deposition of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) is an interesting technique to synthesize adherent, microporous layers on top of conductive substrates. The technique can be subdivided in two approaches: anodic and cathodic deposition. While the mechanism of the cathodic approach has already been well studied, at least for MOF-5 not much is known about the anodic approach. A four-step mechanism is proposed to better understand the anodic deposition, and the same MOF used for the study, HKUST-1, is also deposited cathodically to compare the two approaches. This study focuses on how nucleation starts and proceeds, on the influence of the potential applied, the stresses in the growing layers, and the origin of defects like delamination and MOF detachment. The study is followed by critical considerations on the methods and on the technique, together with suggestions and guidelines to synthesize new MOF layers.
