Tuning the Properties and Self-Healing Behavior of Ionically Modified Poly(isobutylene-co-isoprene) Rubber was written by Suckow, Marcus;Mordvinkin, Anton;Roy, Manta;Singha, Nikhil K.;Heinrich, Gert;Voit, Brigitte;Saalwaechter, Kay;Boehme, Frank. The focus of this work is on the nature of self-healing of ionically modified rubbers obtained by reaction of brominated poly(isobutylene-co-isoprene) rubber (BIIR) with various alkyl imidazoles such as 1-methylimidazole , 1-Bu imidazole , 1-hexyl imidazole , 1-nonyl imidazole and 1-(6-chloro hexyl)-1H-imidazole . Based on stress-strain and temperature dependent DMA measurements, a structural influence of the introduced ionic imidazolium moieties on the formation of ionic clusters and, as a consequence on the mech. strength and self-healing behavior of the samples could be evidenced. These results are fully supported by a mol.-level assessment of the network structure (crosslink and constraint d.) and the dynamics of the ionic clusters using an advanced proton low-field NMR technique. The results show distinct correlations between the macroscopic behavior and mol. chain dynamics of the modified rubbers. In particular, it is shown that the optimization of material properties with regard to mech. and self-healing behavior is limited by opposing tendencies. Samples with reduced chain dynamics exhibit superior mech. behavior but lack on self-healing behavior. In spite of these limitations, the overall performance of some of our samples including self-healing behavior exceeds distinctly that of other self-healing rubbers described in the literature so far. This study involved multiple reactions and reactants, such as 1-Bromo-6-chlorohexane (cas: 6294-17-3Reference of 6294-17-3).

New metal-free nanolubricants based on carbon-dots with outstanding antiwear performance was written by Chimeno-Trinchet, C.;Pacheco, M. E.;Fernandez-Gonzalez, A.;Diaz-Garcia, M. E.;Badia-Laino, R.. Nanoparticles have already demonstrated a good performance in improving the wear and/or coefficient of friction when used as nanolubricants. Nevertheless, they show two main drawbacks: most of them are metal-based and, therefore, eco-unfriendly, and they are mostly hydrophilic and, consequently, unstable in organic media, which finally drives to aggregation/sedimentation and the loose of the good properties. In this work, we carry out the synthesis of carbon-based nanoparticles for additives in lubricants from two different approaches: either using ionic liquids as carbons source, or using glutathione as carbon source and decorating the so-obtained carbon dots with the big organic cations of the ionic liquid The final materials (diameters between 2.2 and 3.5 nm) were characterized by TEM, FTIR, XPS, and luminescent methodologies, finding long-term stability of the suspensions in organic media (≥15 days). Carbon dots obtained directly from the ionic liquids, in particular from methyltrioctylammonium chloride (MTOACDs) have demonstrated to be the best candidate as additive in different base oils (0.1%, w/v) and lubrication regimes, reducing the coefficient of friction about 30% and wear scar in more than 60% in the most extreme of the tested conditions (120 N). Addnl., nanolubricants are metal-free and therefore, more eco-friendly than classic additives. Preparation of the CNTs/AG/ITO electrode with high electro-catalytic activity for 2-chlorophenol degradation and the potential risks from intermediates was written by Liu, Haiyang;Zhang, Zhaocheng;Ren, Miao;Guan, Jiunian;Lu, Nan;Qu, Jiao;Yuan, Xing;Zhang, Ya-nan. A novel carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/agarose (AG)/ITO electrode with high electro-catalytic activity was prepared using a simple sol-gel method. Characterization results showed that the prepared CNTs/AG membrane, coated on the ITO conductive glass, was consisted of C and O. The electro-catalytic degradation for 2-chlorophenol (2-CP) and the influence factors were investigated. The results meant that electro-catalytic degradation for 2-CP was highly dependent on pH, bias voltage, and catalyst dosage. At pH 2, 4V bias voltage, and 5wt% CNTs dosage, the electro-catalytic efficiency of CNTs/AG/ITO electrode for 2-CP (20 mg/L) achieved 98% within 180 min. Afterwards, the electro-catalytic properties of recycling electrode, roles of the generated reactive oxygen species, and the reaction pathways were also investigated and proposed. In addition, the toxicities of the generated intermediates from the electro-catalytic degradation were calculated by easy methods. The results indicated that the toxicities of some intermediates were higher than the parent pollutant, especially the formation of 2-CP dimer which was seldom reported in the advanced oxidation process. The findings of using AG as the carrier and conductive adhesive for catalytic material and the assessment methods for the possible increasing risks from the intermediates were reported firstly in this paper. Currently, the preparation and application of functional waterborne polyurethane has become a research hotspot in the field of polyurethane. In the present work, different weight ratios of diacetyl oxime and coumarin diol were used as the reactive filler with isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and polypropylene glycol (PPG) to prepare superior amine-response, self-healing and recyclable waterborne polyurethane films (WPU-x). Dynamic mech. anal. was carried out to identify the self-healing properties of WPU-x. It was revealed that the WPU-2 film showed an excellent self-healing capability based on the combination of the mobility of the soft segment, dynamic reaction of oxime carbamate bond and hydrogen bonds, and the mech. properties self-healing efficiency can reach 91.11% after self-healing at 90°C for 7 h. UV testing and fluorescence imaging results showed that WPU-2 film exhibit a rapid and concentration-dependent response to dimethylamine (DMA), and it also showed varying degrees of response to other organic amines. The WPU-2 film could be readily applied in cold chain transportation of shrimp and fish for real-time and visual monitoring the freshness of seafoods. At the same time, the WPU-2 film could be recycled via hot-pressing and solution casting. Therefore, this strategy provides some insights for preparing multi-functional waterborne polyurethane. Limited ion-ion selectivity of salt-rejecting membranes due to enthalpy-entropy compensation was written by Shefer, Idit;Peer-Haim, Ophir;Epsztein, Razi. And the article was included in Desalination in 2022.Electric Literature of ClLi The following contents are mentioned in the article:

Water and ion transport in salt-rejecting membranes, such as nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis (RO), are exposed to different hindrance effects that result in selectivity between species. In this study, we explored systematically the hindrance effects that govern water-salt and ion-ion selectivity in NF and RO membranes. More specifically, we measured the permeability of different species at varying temperatures and applied an Eyring-type equation to quantify the enthalpic and entropic barriers for their transport in three types of salt-rejecting membranes. We found that water-salt selectivity is entropically driven, where water mols. gain entropy in the membrane, while the salt ions face a substantial entropic barrier due to their larger size that reduces their possible configurations in the membrane. As the enthalpic barriers of the water and salt did not show a prominent difference (with minor effect on the water-salt selectivity), most ion-ion separations were restricted by an enthalpy-entropy compensation (EEC) effect; i.e., an ion with a higher entropic barrier experienced a lower enthalpic barrier compared to the competing ion, resulting in minor variations in the free-energy barriers between ions that limit the ion-ion selectivity. We conclude by proposing possible mechanisms that promote EEC during ion transport in salt-rejecting membranes. Effect of Dielectric Saturation on Ion Activity Coefficients in Ion Exchange Membranes was written by Paspureddi, Akhilesh;Sharma, Mukul M.;Katz, Lynn E.. And the article was included in ACS Omega in 2022.SDS of cas: 7447-41-8 The following contents are mentioned in the article:

Polymeric ion exchange membranes are used in water purification processes to sep. ions from water. The distribution and transport of ionic species through these membranes depend on a variety of factors, including membrane charge d., morphol., chem. structure and the specific ionic species present in the fluid. The elec. potential distribution between membranes and solutions is typically described using models based on Donnan theory. An extension of the original theory is proposed to account for nonideal behavior of ions both in the fluid and in the membrane as well to provide a more robust description of interactions of solutes with fixed charge groups on the polymer backbone. In this study, the variation in dielec. permittivity in the membrane medium with elec. field strength is taken into account in a model based on Gouy-Chapman double-layer theory to provide a more accurate description of ion activity coefficients in an ion exchange membrane. A semianal. model is presented that accounts for the variation in dielec. permittivity of water in a charged polymer membrane. A comparison of this model with Manning’s counterion condensation model clearly demonstrates that by incorporating changes in water dielec. permittivity with elec. field strength, much better agreement with experiments can be obtained over a range of salt concentrations for different ions. Tetranitro-oxacalix[4]arenes were prepared to determine their thin film fabrication and gas sensing applications. Firstly, tetranitro-oxacalix[4]arenes (1-3) were synthesized via nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction (SNAr) using substituted resorcinol derivatives and 1,5-difluoro-2,4-dinitrobenzene with moderate to high yields. Later, successfully synthesized materials were utilized to construct thin films using the spin coating method and the characterization of the deposited films was performed with UV-vis and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). Characterization results indicated that high-quality spin-coated thin films were prepared using these materials. The sensing abilities of the spin-coated thin films of tetranitro-oxacalix[4]arenes (1-3) were tested using the SPR method for volatile organic vapors of acetone, chloroform, toluene, ethanol and benzene. High concentration sensitivity values of 0.0700 x 10-3, 0.1001 x 10-3 and 0.8653 x 10-3 with normalized response/ppm unit for acetone vapor were obtained for thin films (1-3), resp. The sensors obtained using especially thin films 1 and 3 showed high responses toward acetone even at low concentration ranges between 3.8-15.2 ppm. Regular injections of insulin provide life-saving benefits to millions of diabetics. Apart from native insulin and insulin analog formulations, microcrystalline insulin suspensions are also com. available. The onset of action of the currently available basal insulins relies on the slow dissociation of insulin hexamers in the s.c. space due to the strong binding of small organic ligands. With the aim of identifying insulin-ligand complexes with enhanced pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles, the binding affinity of two resorcinol-based mols. (4-chlororesorcinol and 4-bromoresorcinol) and the structural characteristics of insulin upon co-crystallization with them were investigated in the present study. ‘In solution’ measurements were performed via saturation transfer difference (STD) NMR. Co-crystallization upon pH variation resulted in the production of polycrystalline precipitates, whose structural characteristics (i.e. unit-cell symmetry and dimension) were assessed. In both cases, different polymorphs (four and three, resp.) of monoclinic symmetry (P21 and C2 space groups) were identified via X-ray powder diffraction. Incoming sewage water, treated effluent and digested sludge were collected from 11 Swedish sewage treatment plants (STPs) on 3 different days. Anal. protocols were established for a large number of compounds (47) with antimicrobial properties and the collected samples were then screened for the presence of these selected substances. Liquid chromatog. tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) were used to analyze the samples. Thirty organic compounds and 10 metals were detected above their resp. detection limit. Quaternary ammonium compounds were the most abundant substances in the particulate phases with levels up to 370 μg/g and benzotriazoles were the most common in the aqueous phases with levels up to 24 μg/L. Several compounds with no, or very limited, previously reported data were detected in this study, including chlorhexidine, hexadecylpyridinium chloride and 10-benzalkonium chloride. Some of these were both frequently detected (>60% detection frequency) and found in high levels (up to 19 μg/g d.w. sludge).
