All the four compounds exhibit good photochromism upon irradiation with alternative UV and visible light. And they are all provided with aggregation-induced emission properties in THF solution with different fraction of water, non-emissive in the pure THF solution but yellowish green fluorescence in the aggregate or solid state. Furthermore, the compounds connecting tetraphenylethene to the bisthienylethene were found to exhibit the stronger fluorescence emission in the aggregate or solid state than the ones connecting triphenylethene to the bisthienylethene.

Promising vaccine adjuvants of self-assembling peptide hydrogels for protein ovalbumin (OVA) are introduced in this study. The hydrogels are formed by the enzyme of phosphatase, and the vaccine adjuvant potency of both L– and D-peptide hydrogels is evaluated. The results indicate that, compared with the clin. used alum adjuvant, both L– and D-peptide hydrogels can increase the IgG production of OVA for about 1.3 and 3.8 times, resp. Both gels can enhance antigen uptake and induce dendritic cell maturation, and promote and prolong accumulation of antigen in lymph node, as well as evoke germinal center formation. However, the D-peptide hydrogel with OVA exhibits a slightly more efficient accumulation of OVA in the lymph nodes and seems preventing tumor growth more significantly than its L-counterpart. With the good biocompatibility and degradability of peptide hydrogels, the hydrogels described in this study have big potential for the production of protein vaccines for immunotherapy against different diseases.

AlCl3 ionic liquids having various cations and anions were synthesized. Tests for oligomerization of isobutene catalyzed by various AlCl3 ionic liquids were conducted in an autoclave, and the effect of reaction temperature, reaction time and stirring speed was studied. Exptl. results indicated that these AlCl3 ionic liquids exhibited good catalytic performance in isobutene oligomerization with conversion of isobutene over 95%. For ionic liquids synthesized by AlCl3 and (C2H5)3NHCl, when the mole ratio of AlCl3 to(C2H5)3NHCl was below 1, the AlCl3 ionic liquid was inactive to isobutene oligomerization. When the mole ratio of AlCl3 to(C2H5)3NHCl was 1, the ionic liquid exhibited certain catalytic activity and its selectivity to dimers and trimers was good. When the mole ratio of AlCl3 to (C2H5)3NHCl was above 1, these ionic liquids could effectively catalyze oligomerization reactions, the conversion of isobutene reached more than 95%, yet the selectivity to dimers and trimers declined and the product distributions were continuous with certain amount of cracking byproducts. The optimal reaction conditions were as follows: a reaction temperature of 80°C, a reaction time of 30 min and stirring speed of 1300 r/min.

The catalytic performance and related reaction conditions of the oligomerization of isobutene catalyzed by ionic liquid were investigated in an autoclave. The exptl. results indicated that ionic liquid synthesized by anhydrous FeCl3 and triethylamine hydrochloride could effectively catalyze oligomerization and had higher selectivity. The type of anion had important influence on activity and selectivity of the products, and the structure of cation also had important influence on activity. The test result showed that the product was the mixture of dimer, trimer, tetramer and pentamer without crackate. Under the reaction conditions of temperature 40 °C, reaction time 30 min, ionic liquid to olefin ratio 1.2 with 200 mL n-hexane as diluent, the conversion of isobutene reached 85%, and the concentration of dimer and trimer in oligomer was 22.87% and 57.43% resp.

This research provides a simple method to prepare photochromic polymer materials with excellent comprehensive properties.
