Background The side reactions of dehalogenation or C-N coupling tend to occur when halogenated aromatic amines are prepared by catalytic hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds. In this paper, we prepared the sub-microspherical Fe3O4@PDA-Pd NPs catalyst apply it efficiently in the hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds to prepare the halogenated aromatic amines under atmospheric pressure. The catalyst shows a high selectivity of greater than 96% and can effectively inhibit the occurrence of the side reactions of dehalogenation and C-N coupling. Results The optimum condition of the hydroreduction reaction is when tetrahydrofuran is used as solvent and the reaction happens at 50 degrees C for 5 h. The selectivity of the chlorinated aromatic amine and the fluorinated aromatic amine products exceed 99% and the yield exceeds 90%. Only a small amount of dehalogenated products and C-N coupling by-products were produced in the brominated aromatic compound and the iodinated aromatic compound. Conclusion We developed a promising method for preparing the superparamagnetic and strongly magnetic Fe3O4@PDA core-shell sub-microsphere-supported nano-palladium catalyst for catalyzing the hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds. The halogenated aromatic amines were efficiently and highly selectively prepared under atmospheric pressure, with the side reactions of dehalogenation and C-N coupling effectively inhabited simultaneously.

Aryl ketones are ubiquitous structural motifs in organic synthesis. Nonetheless, the traditional methods for their generation are often costly and not environment-friendly. Herein we report a novel and efficient route for the preparation of aryl ketones by photocatalysis at mild conditions. Porous C3N4 nanorods decorated with spatially separated Ag and Co3O4 nanoparticles on the interior and exterior surface of C(3)N(4)( )hollow sphere (Co3O4/Ag@C3N4) fabricated by a facile method of supramolecular self-assembly. Using this porous material as photocatalyst and O-2 as oxidant, aryl ketones could efficiently generate (with a yield up to 75.7% and selectivity to 97%) via toluene and halobenzene under visible-light irradiation at room temperature. The present study not only provides an inexpensive strategy for aryl ketones generation but also an effective tactic for activation of sp(3 )C-H bonds under mild conditions. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. A concurrent tandem catalytic (CTC) methodology has been developed for the amidation of aryl chlorides where the aryl chloride is first converted to an aryl iodide via halogen exchange and the aryl iodide is subsequently transformed into the aryl amide. A variety of aryl chlorides were converted to aryl amides in up to 85% isolated yield using 20 mol % CuI, 60 mol % N,N’-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine, 2.2 equiv of K2CO3, and 1.05-1.5 equiv of amide in acetonitrile at 200 degrees C after 0.75-1 h. The same copper/ligand system served as multifunctional catalyst for both steps of the concurrent catalytic process with iodide present in substoichiometric amounts. Mechanistic studies were consistent with CTC amidation occurring via a nonradical mechanism. Kinetic modeling was conducted to investigate the effect of competitive direct amidation of an aryl chloride or aryl bromide on the formation of product over time during a CTC amidation reaction.

To develop novel therapeutic agents with anticancer activities, two series of novel 2,4-bismorpholinyl-thieno [3,2-d]pyrimidine and 2-morpholinothieno[3,2-d]pyrimidinone derivatives were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their biological activities. Among them, compound A(12) showed the most potent antitumor activities against HCT116, PC-3, MCF-7, A549 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines with IC50 values of 3.24 mu M, 14.37 mu M, 7.39 mu M, 7.10 mu M, and 16.85 mu M, respectively. Further explorations in bioactivity were conducted to clarify the anticancer mechanism of compound A(12). The results showed that compound A(12) obviously inhibited the proliferation of A549 cell lines and decreased mitochondrial membrane potential, which led to the apoptosis of cancer cells and suppressed the migration of tumor cells.

Ylide-functionalized phosphine ligands (YPhos) were rationally designed to fit the requirements of Buchwald-Hartwig aminations at room temperature. This ligand class combines a strong electron-donating ability comparable to NHC ligands with high steric demand similar to biaryl phosphines. The active Pd species are stabilized by agostic C-H center dot center dot center dot Pd rather than by Pd-arene interactions. The practical advantage of YPhos ligands arises from their easy and scalable synthesis from widely available, inexpensive starting materials. Benchmark studies showed that YPhos-Pd complexes are superior to the best-known phosphine ligands in room-temperature aminations of aryl chlorides. To enhance our understanding on environmental conditions of the Maowei Sea in Guangxi province, China, the concentration and distribution of 22 chlorobenzene compounds (CBs) in the surface sediment were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The relationship of the sediment between CBs and total organic carbon (TOC) was also investigated. The results showed that a total of eight kinds of CBs compounds were detected in the sediment samples which were collected from the coastal environment of the Maowei Sea, with an average concentration of 15.3ngg(-1) (the concentration range, 2.5-61.5ngg(-1)). The rank of their average concentrations was as follows: 2,3,4,5,6-pentachlorotoluene>hexachlorobenzene, 2-chlorotoluene, 3-chlorotoluene and 2,3-dichlorotoluene>2,4-dichlorotoluene>4-chlorotoluene>pentachlorobenzene. Most CBs were distributed in sediments along the east coast of the Maowei Sea. For total TOC content in sediments, the concentration in the sampling locations was similar, with a mean concentration of 8.83gkg(-1) (the concentration range, 4.87-20.13gkg(-1)). However, there was no significant correlation between the concentration of TOC and total CBs. Compared to the corresponding CBs in the sediment of other coastal areas in mainland China and other countries, the value of CBs in the Maowei Sea was low.

Although 3-azoindoles have recently emerged as an appealing family of photoswitch molecules, the synthesis of such compounds has been poorly covered in the literature. Herein a high-yielding and operationally simple protocol is reported allowing the synthesis of 3-azoindoles, featuring important steric hindrance around the azo motif. Remarkably, this C-H coupling is characterized by excellent atom economy and occurs under metal-free conditions, at room temperature, and within few minutes, delivering the expected products in excellent yields (quantitatively in most of the cases). Accordingly, a library of new molecules, with potential applications as photochromic compounds, is prepared.

A series of novel thiazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidin-7(6H)-ones (3aa-3eq) were designed, synthesized, and evaluated as the type I positive allosteric modulators of human alpha 7 nAChR expressed in Xenopus ooctyes by a two-electrode voltage clamp. The structure-activity relationship analysis identified the compound 3ea as a potent and efficacious PAM with the maximum activation effect of the alpha 7 current of over 1633% in the presence of acetylcholine (100 mu M) and an EC50 = 1.26 mu M. It is highly specific to alpha 7 nAChR over other subtypes of nAChR, 5-HT3A, NMDA, and GABA(A) receptors. Compound 3ea showed an elimination half-life of 10.8 +/- 1.5 h for 3 mg/kg, i.v., and 7.4 +/- 1.1 h for 60 mg/kg, i.g. in rat. It also exhibited sufficient blood-brain barrier penetration with no significant effect on hERG channel. Most importantly, compound 3ea dose-dependently (0.1-1 mg/kg, i.p.) reversed the prepulse inhibition deficit induced by MK-801 in the mouse schizophrenia model. X

New Fe3O4@SiO2 core-shell superparamagnetic nanoparticles functionalized by a bis-salophen Schiff base Pd complex were synthesized and employed as an efficient magnetic nanocatalyst in the Heck and Sonogashira cross coupling reactions. The morphology and size of the nanoparticles were investigated by FE-SEM and TEM analyses. Furthermore, the magnetic properties of the catalyst were investigated by VSM analysis. The loading content and leaching amounts of palladium on the catalyst were measured by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analysis. Also, the thermal behavior of this magnetic heterogeneous catalyst was studied using a TGA instrument. This heterogeneous catalytic system showed a good performance in the coupling of aryl halides with alkynes (Sonogashira reaction) as well as aryl halides with alkene derivatives (Heck reaction). High to excellent yields were achieved for these C-C coupling reactions. The catalyst can be simply separated from the reaction media by an external magnet and reused for eight consecutive runs without any significant loss of activity. Finally, the kinetics of the reactions were studied in this work.
