Here we present the synthesis of polyethylene glycol (PEG)-stabilized hybrid ultrasmall (<20 nm) gold-silver nanotriangles (AuAgNTrs) and their application in photothermal therapy. The obtained AuAgNTrs were deeply investigated using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). The cell viability assay was performed on U-87 glioblastoma multiforme cell model. Excellent photothermal performance of AuAgNTrs upon irradiation with NIR laser was demonstrated in suspension and in vitro, with >80% cell viability decrease already after 10 min laser irradiation with a laser power P = 3W/cm2 that was proved to be harmless to the control cells. Moreover, a previous cell viability test had shown that the nanoparticles themselves were reasonably biocompatible: without irradiation cell viability remained high. Herein, we show that our hybrid AuAgNTrs exhibit very exciting potential as nanostructures for hyperthermia cancer therapy, mostly due to their easy synthesis protocol, excellent cell compatibility and promising photothermal features. Poly(methylhydrosiloxane) (PMHS) was cross-linked with two linear vinylsiloxanes of different chain lengths between functional end-groups through hydrosilylation. Fourier-transform IR (FTIR) spectroscopic measurements obtained during the crosslinking processes as well as for the reaction products revealed that the rate of hydrosilylation and its efficiency are influenced by the type of the crosslinking agent used and the amount of organo-montmorillonite introduced into the polysiloxane network. Quant. anal. of the recorded FTIR spectra showed that as the amount of nanofiller in the polysiloxane matrix increased, the rate and efficiency of the crosslinking process decreased. As surfactants, the anionic sodium diethylhexyl sulfosuccinate (AOT) and the cationic benzyl-n-hexadecyldimethylammonium chloride (BHDC) were employed. The effect of the nanoconfinement, as well as the impact of the polar solvent content and the type of interface, were analyzed by determining the Michaelis-Menten parameters. In homogeneous media, the catalytic efficiency of the hydrolysis reaction is strongly dependent on the amount of water in the mixtures evaluated. In RMs the catalytic efficiency is dependent on both, the polar content and the type of surfactant used. A number of techniques, including conductivity, surface tension, dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and 1H NMR (1H NMR), Fourier transform IR (FT-IR), and 1H-1H 2D nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (1H-1H 2D NOESY), have been used to investigate the effect of amide bonds on the interfacial and assembly properties of a cationic surfactant, N-anilinoformylmethyl-N-cetyl-N,N-dimethyl ammonium chloride (AMC-C16), in aqueous solutions The adsorption of AMC-C16 has been found to be much better than that of the conventional cationic surfactant, benzyl cetyldimethylammonium chloride (BAC-16) at the air/water interface and in solution The surface tension measurements show the presence of two critical aggregation concentrations (CAC1 and CAC2) for AMC-C16. The presence of a strong intermol. hydrogen bond of AMC-C16 was confirmed by 1H NMR and FT-TR. The mol. interactions of AMC-C16 were detected by 1H-1H 2D NOESY. The results show that the rigid group (phenyl) of AMC-C16 was partially overlapped with its alkyl chain in aqueous solution, and the possible aggregation behavior for AMC-C16 was proposed. The effects of an inorganic salt (NaCl) and an organic salt (C6H5COONa) to the aggregates of AMC-C16 have been discussed. The authors report the effect of a polar solvent entrapped in benzyl-n-hexadecyldimethylammonium chloride (BHDC) reverse micelles (RMs) as nanoreactors for the synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). We evaluate how the room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (bmimBF4) and water inside the RMs could control the interactions at the interface as a key factor that affects the final properties of the synthesized nanoparticles. The results show that the bmimBF4 supramol. network under confinement plays an important role in the nucleation and growth mechanism of AuNPs. In addition, the results show how the polar solvent could induce a specific interaction at the interface, including ionic segregation, which affects the BHDC chloride (Cl) counterion availability at the interface, droplet size, interface flexibility and thus the material exchange rate between droplets. These factors strongly influence the AuNPs size, polydispersity, morphol. and crystallinity. The RTIL bmimBF4 in BHDC RMs induces a decrease in ionic segregation of the Cl ions available at the interface which favors sphericity and monocrystallinity in the AuNPs formed. Moreover, water does not affect the availability of Cl ions at the interface, and the insertion of these ions in the previous crystalline layer is a key factor in the anisotropy and polycrystallinity of the AuNPs obtained.
