The reaction was remarkably mild. No alkylation was observed when di-Et ethylphosphonate or di-Et acetylphosphonate were refluxed with alc. under the same conditions. Alkylation of PhOH by I gave 85% phenetole in 4.5 hrs. at 150°.

This paper describes a novel method for the removal of potassium tellurite (TeIV), a toxic tellurium (IV) compound, via its bioreduction using the drug flucloxacillin (Flx) in an aqueous sulfuric acid solution The kinetics of the bioreduction process were monitored using UV-Vis absorption spectra at an ionic strength of 2.0 mol dm-3 and 298 K. The reaction between TeIV and Flx was set at a 1:1 stoichiometry. The reduction reaction followed first-order kinetics for [Flx] and fractional-first-order kinetics for [TeIV] and [H+]. The effects of ionic strength and relative permittivity of the reaction medium were also explored. Supplementation with divalent transition metal ions enhanced the reduction rate. The reaction products were identified, in order of their stoichiometric results, spot tests and FT-IR spectra as 3-(2-chloro-6-fluorophenyl)-5-methylisoxazol-4-carbocylic acid, 5,5-dimethyl-thiazolidine-2,4-dicarboxlic acid, ammonium ion, carbon dioxide and elemental tellurium (Te0). The reaction rate dependence on temperature was studied, and the activation and thermodn. parameters were assessed and discussed. The derived rate-law expression was found to be in excellent accordance with the acquired investigational outcomes. A conceivable reaction mechanism has been provided, which includes a reaction between the protonated flucloxacillin (Flx+) and tellurous acid (H2TeO3) as the essential reactive species, resulting in the construction of an intermediate complex. Such complex decays in the rate-determining step to yield the final reaction products.

With the define of at. characteristic value δi on the mol. topol. theory, the value setting up the group dyeing index mXA and its inverted index mXB, this paper studies relationship between the refractive index and mol. structure of 92 halogenated arenes by using quant. structure-property relationship technol. The reasonable mol. modeling equations were achieved by multiple regression for the prediction of the refractive index of halogenated arenes. The multiple regression equations are established, the correlation coefficient is 0.902 6. The calculated results show that the imputed refractive index of halogenated arenes were in good agreement with the exptl. data, with mean relative deviation being 0.47%. The study showed that application group dyeing index and its inverted index simultaneously can reflect more completely the structure-property relationships of halogenated arenes. The performances of the models were tested through cross-validation by leave-one-out procedure, which shows the estimation stability and prediction of the models based on the group dyeing index are quite contented.

Application of lavage of the abdominal cavity with extranil in patients with postoperative peritonitis promotes regression of the inflammatory process in the abdominal cavity and manifestations of endotoxicosis and systemic inflammation. Depending on the curative tactics of the postoperative period, all patients were divided into two groups: – observation group (OG) – 26 patients with postoperative peritonitis where in the postoperative period was used lavage of the abdominal cavity with a solution for peritoneal dialysis extranil; – control group (CG) – 30 patients with postoperative peritonitis, in complex treatment of which extranil was not used. After that the abdominal cavity was drained from four points by polychlorinated biphenyl tubes, which were fixed to the skin and closed for 6 h. The use of the proposed method in patients with postoperative peritonitis can reduce the frequency of postoperative complications and reduce the mortality rate by 1,5 times. The total mortality rate among all patients with peritonitis was 13, 2% in the control group and 7, 6% in the observation group.

McCarthy, Langmuir 16(2000) 7268] of the advancing and receding contact angles for H2O, diiodomethane and hexadecane measured on various hydrophobic silyl layers (mostly monolayers) produced on Si wafers the apparent surface free energies γtots were calculated by applying new model of the contact angle hysteresis interpretation. For the same silyl layer, the calculated γtots values to some degree depended on the probe liquid used. Therefore, thus calculated the surface free energies should be considered as apparent ones. Also, also the values of the dispersion component γsd of these layers depend on the probe liquid used, but to a less degree. This must be due to the strength of the force field originating from the probe liquid and the spacing between the interacting mols. The relations between γtots and γds are discussed from the equations derived. It may be postulated that applying proposed model of the contact angle hysteresis and calculating the apparent total surface free energies and the dispersion contributions better insight into wetting properties of the silyled Si surface can be achieved.
