The residue was purified by flash column chromatography (silica gel, hexane/AcOEt = 10:1) to afford 2.76 g of the title product 18 in 36% yield as a brown solid. 1H NMR (270 MHz, CDCl3) delta 7.22 (1H, d, J = 8.6 Hz), 6.77 (1H, d, J = 6.4 Hz), 3.84 (2H, br s).

Drying over Na2SO4, filtering andevaporation to dryness gave the title compound as a white solid (16 mg, 24percent). NMR (CDCl3, selected data for the free base): 0.8 (d, 3H), 1.35 (s, 3H), 1.6-1.8 (m, 9H), 2.10 (m, 1H), 2.4-2.5 (m, 2H), 2.6-3.0 (m, 11H), 7.25 (d, 1H), 7.35 (t, 1H), 7.55 (d, 1H), 7.85 (s, 1H), 7.95 (s, 1H).
