The organic phase was dried with anhydrous Na2SO4.Filtered and washed with hexane, and the combined layers were concentrated to an oil invacuum. The crude keto ester (103.0 g) was vacuum distilled at 105-110 C (0.2-0.3 mmHg) to afford a colourless oil 90.0 g with 60% yield.
