Melamine formaldehyde and melamine resorcinol formaldehyde microspheres were decorated with Au and Pd nanoparticles and applied as heterogeneous catalysts in the oxidation of 1-phenylethanol. The catalysts showed similar activities irresp. of the support employed. Moderate conversion activities of 48-50% were achieved when using acetonitrile as solvent; however, when employing water as solvent, the supported catalysts formed a three-phase, emulsion system which facilitated the catalytic conversion of 1-phenylethanol to acetophenone at much higher conversions of around 83%. The oxidant, TBHP, decomposed rapidly in acetonitrile, while it remained stable in aqueous solution, leading to the enhanced activities observed when using water as solvent. These systems also proved to be recyclable for up to five cycles, with only slight loss of activity observed; this can be attributed to the phys. loss of catalyst during the workup procedure conducted between each cycle. Two-dimensional 16-BAC/SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of mitochondrial membrane proteins was written by Smejkal, Gary;Kakumanu, Srikanth. And the article was included in Methods in Molecular Biology in 2019.Name: N-Benzyl-N,N-dimethylhexadecan-1-aminium chloride The following contents are mentioned in the article:

The substitution of the reverse polarity benzyldimethyl-n-hexadecylammonium chloride (16-BAC) polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) for isoelec. focusing (IEF) in the first dimension of electrophoresis improves the solubility of extremely hydrophobic proteins and their recovery compared to conventional 2D IEF/SDS PAGE. The acidic environment of 16-BAC PAGE has also been shown to better preserve the labile methylation of basic proteins such as the histones. Several improvements of the 2D 16-BAC/SDS PAGE method are collectively described here with particular emphasis on the separation of mitochondrial membrane proteins of low mol. mass. Lowering the 16-BAC concentration 50-fold in the gel and buffers decreases the formation of mixed 16-BAC/SDS micelles, which otherwise interferes with the separation of very low mol. mass proteins in second dimension SDS PAGE, and consequently improved the resolution of mitochondrial membrane proteins in the 10-30 kDa range. Low-mol.-weight synthetic mols. that mimic the activity of native biol. macromols. have therapeutic potential, utility in large-scale production of biopharmaceuticals, and the capacity to act as probes to study mol. recognition events. The authors have developed a nonpeptidyl mimic for Staphylococcus aureus Protein A (SpA). The specific recognition and complexation elements between the B domain (Fb) of SpA and the Fc fragment of IgG were identified from the x-ray crystallog. structure. Computer-aided mol. modeling was used to design a series of biomimetic mols. around the Phe 132-Tyr133 dipeptide involved in its binding to IgG. One of the ligands binds IgG competitively with SpA in solution and when immobilized on agarose beds, with an affinity constant of 105-106 M-1. The immobilized artificial Protein A was used to purify IgG from human plasma and murine IgG from ascites fluid, and to remove bovine IgG from fetal calf serum. Abstract: Cellulose and its derivatives films are increasingly used in paper, packaging, and other fields, but there is limited research on its films with anti-counterfeiting patterns. Here, we demonstrate an approach to prepare cellulose film with a micro-millimeter scale pattern by lithium chloride (LiCl) crystal template, which grows out by the in-situ generation in the film formation process. The surface morphologies of the as-prepared film were systematically controlled by regulating the solution viscosity (η) and the surrounding temperature The imprinting of LiCl crystal was retained on the film surface after rinsing. Moreover, the crystallinity of patterned film was significantly improved, and about 62 MPa increased tensile strength than the film without a pattern. Incredibly, these patterns were similar to fingerprint size, which exhibited an excellent function to unlock fingerprint locked phones and showed potential in the anti-counterfeiting yield. Monodisperse CoxPdy alloy nanoparticles supported on reduced graphene oxide (CoxPdy @rGO) were synthesized and served as an efficient and recyclable catalyst for the chelation-assisted ortho C-H bond the alkenylation and cyclization of benzamides. The effect of the metal composition in CoxPdy on the catalytic activity was studied, and it was found that there is a synergistic effect between the Co and Pd. The rGO has been proved to play a crucial role in preventing aggregation of alloy nanoparticles, maintaining good dispersion, high catalytic activity and stability. Controllable synthesis of alkenylation and cyclization products can be achieved by modifying the reaction conditions. In addition, the catalyst was stable and recyclable, and the activity decay in the recovery and scale-up experiments is negligible, providing a mild and highly efficient method for direct C(sp2)-H functionalization. Chloride-ion battery (CIB) is regarded as a promising electrochem. storage device due to their high theor. volumetric capacities, low cost, and high abundance. However, low-cycle life limits its application in the energy storage field. Herein, we report a rechargeable CIB composed of a “water-in-salt” electrolyte, a zinc anode, and a carbon cathode (graphene, carbon nanotubes, carbon black). These cathodes exhibit initial reversible specific capacities of 136, 108, and 102 mAh g-1, resp. Especially, a reversible discharge capacity of 95 mAh g-1 was retained after 2000 cycles when graphene is used as the cathode. Such high cycling stability was first reported in CIBs. Furthermore, the use of “water-in-salt” electrolytes has improved the discharge platform of aqueous CIBs to 2.6V. The charge and discharge mechanism of the carbon cathode was investigated by TEM, FTIR, Raman, and XPS, proving the chloride ions reversible absorption/desorption in carbon cathodes. Cellulose, the most abundant feedstock of chems. and energy is extracted from various agro-industrial wastes, such as sugarcane bagasse (SB). Pretreatment of SB with ionic liquids improves extraction of cellulose, yet the use of ionic liquid is hindered by its high cost. In this study, cellulose was extracted from SB pretreated with methyltrioctylammonium chloride under relatively mild conditions. The extracted cellulose from pretreated SB (PTB) and untreated SB (UTB) was characterized by SEM and FTIR. Fermentation of cellulose extracted from PTB by a thermophilic bacterium, Bacillus aestuarii UE25, yielded 245.16% higher titers of cellulase than cellulose extracted from UTB. The recyclability of the IL was assessed to make the pretreatment process cost effective and was monitored through TLC and FTIR. The solubility of solid calcium oxalate monohydrate (CaC2O4·H2O, COM) has been measured in aqueous solutions of four 1:1 electrolytes (NaCl, KCl, CsCl, and Me4NCl) at temperatures T = 298.15, 323.15, and 343.15 K. Solubilities at industrially relevant electrolyte concentrations of up to 5.0 mol·kg-1 were determined by at. absorption spectrophotometry of the dissolved calcium ions. The solubility of COM in 1.0 mol·kg-1 electrolyte solutions was 2-4 times higher than in pure water but varied little at higher ionic strengths for all of the systems studied. Most of the observed solubilities were well correlated at all temperatures and electrolyte concentrations using a simple Specific Ion-interaction Theory (SIT) model with only one adjustable, temperature-independent, interaction parameter. Activity of the heme synthesis enzyme ferrochelatase (FECH) is implicated in multiple diseases. In particular, it is a mediator of neovascularization in the eye and thus an appealing therapeutic target for preventing blindness. However, no drug-like direct FECH inhibitors are known. Here, we set out to identify small-mol. inhibitors of FECH as potential therapeutic leads using a high-throughput screening approach to identify potent inhibitors of FECH activity. A structure-activity relationship study of a class of triazolopyrimidinone hits yielded drug-like FECH inhibitors. These compounds inhibit FECH in cells, bind the active site in cocrystal structures, and are antiangiogenic in multiple in vitro assays. One of these promising compounds was antiangiogenic in vivo in a mouse model of choroidal neovascularization.
