The protonated closed-form photoinduced color isomers return to open-ring isomers at a fast rate at elevated temperature such as 160° C. The protonation and deprotonation of the open- and closed isomers was reversible. Such photochromic materials could be used as reversible switching materials for write-by-light/erase-by-heat recording.

Sodium glucose co-transporter 1 (SGLT1) plays a dominant role in the absorption of glucose in the gut and is considered a promising target in the development of therapeutic options for postprandial hyperglycemia. Previously, we reported potent and selective SGLT1 inhibitors 1 and 2 showing efficacy in oral carbohydrate tolerance tests in diabetic rat models. In a pharmacokinetic (PK) study of glycoside I (R = OH), excessive systemic exposure to metabolites of I (R = OH) was observed, presumably due to the high permeability of its aglycon. To further improve SGLT1 inhibitory activity and reduce aglycon permeability, a series of 4-benzyl-5-isopropyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl β-D-glycopyranoside derivatives, e.g. I (R = NH2), bearing novel hydrophilic substitution groups on the Ph ring were synthesized and their inhibitory activity toward SGLTs was evaluated. Optimized compound II showed an improved profile satisfying both higher activity and lower permeability of its aglycon. Moreover, the superior efficacy of II in various carbohydrate tolerance tests in diabetic rat models was confirmed compared with acarbose, an α-glucosidase inhibitor (α-GI) widely used in the clinic.

A series of 7β-[(Z)-2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-2-hydroxyiminoacetamido]-3-(heteroarylmethylthio)cephalosporins was designed, synthesized and evaluated for antibacterial activity and oral absorption in rats. Antibacterial activity was markedly influenced by the structure of the heteroaromatic ring moiety. Oral absorption was influenced by the heteroaromatic ring moiety as well as by the arrangement of heteroatoms. Among these compounds, FK041, 7β-[(Z)-2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-2-(hydroxyimino)acetamido]-3-[(pyrazol-3-yl)methylthio]-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid, showed potent antibacterial activity against both Gram-pos. and Gram-neg. bacteria including Haemophilus influenzae. Further, it showed higher oral absorption than CFDN.

Under given etching conditions (temperature 250-300° for 16 h), a 5-10 volume% aqueous solution of ammonia was optimal. The static way of silylation by 10 volume% silane solution in toluene for 16 h at 250-280° with the column filled to 50-70% of its volume is optimal. This method provides a mech. stable porous layer 1-10 μm thick.

Kinetics of free radical polymerization of Me methacrylate using potassium peroxomonosulfate as initiator in the presence of benzyltributylammonium chloride (BTBAC) as phase transfer catalyst was studied. The polymerization reactions were carried out under nitrogen atm. and unstirred conditions at a constant temperature of 60°C in Et acetate/water bi-phase system. The role of concentrations of monomer, initiator, catalyst, temperature, acid and ionic strength on the rate of polymerization (Rp) was ascertained. The orders with respect to monomer, initiator and phase transfer catalyst were found to be 1.5, 0.5 and 0.5 resp. The rate of polymerization (Rp) is independent of ionic strength and pH. Based on the kinetic results, a suitable mechanism is proposed.

The paper presents results of research on the preparation of polisher agent used in copper electroplating (electropolisher) and intermediate required for the synthesis of N,N-diethylphenosafranine (I). The multi-step synthesis of the intermediate I comprises the nitrosation of N,N-diethylaniline, reduction of p-nitroso-N,N-diethylaniline, oxidation of the resulting N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine and its condensation with aniline. The polisher agent was obtained by diazotization of N,N-diethylphenosafranine and by reacting the resulting diazo compound with N,N-dimethylaniline, to obtain the product with absorption maximum λmax = 584 (300) nm. The usage tests of the newly developed product have shown very good application properties.

Graphite oxide was silylated by various alkylchlorosilanes in the presence of butylamine and toluene, and new intercalation compounds were obtained. The silylating reagents with two or three Cl atoms at Si in them reacted with graphite oxide, while no reaction occurred when silylating reagents with only one Cl atom was used. The silylating reagent mainly reacted with hydroxyl group of graphite oxide, forming Si-O bonding. The role of butylamine was not only exfoliating graphite oxide layer but also scavenging HCl mol. which caused the decomposition of silylated graphite oxide. The Si content was almost constant �.6 mol/graphite oxide for the samples silylated by alkyltrichlorosilane with shorter alkyl chain lengths. It increased with the increase of alkyl chain length and reached 1.7 mol/graphite oxide. The higher Si content could be ascribed to further silylation on hydroxyl groups formed at Si atoms of silylating reagent bonded to graphite oxide, bridging two silylating reagents.

Leishmania (L.) infantum causes visceral, cutaneous, and mucosal leishmaniasis in humans and canine leishmaniasis in dogs. Herein, we describe that O-alkyl hydroxamate derivatives displayed potent and selective in vitro activity against the amastigote stage of L. infantum while no activity was observed against promastigotes. Compound PhNHCO(CH2)6CONHOCPh3 (I)showed potent in vivo activity against L. infantum. Moreover, the combination of compound 5 supported on gold nanoparticles and meglumine antimoniate was also effective in vivo and improved the activity of these compounds compared to that of the individual treatment. Docking studies showed that compound 5 did not reach highly conserved pocket C and established interactions with the semiconserved residues V44, A45, R242, and E243 in pocket A of LiSIR2rp1. The surface space determined by these four amino acids is not conserved in human sirtuins. Compound I represents a new class of selective ligands with antileishmanial activity.

The ratio of the average weights of tumors in the treated and the controls, and the ratio of body weight changes in the 2 groups were recorded for each compound 2-Methoxyphenazine, 3,7-diamino-2-methylphenazine and 3-morpholino-1,2-benzophenazine at doses of 50 mg./kg.-body weight/day, brought down the tumor weight to less than half in the carcinoma infected mice and 3-acetamido-7-amino-5-phenylphenazonium chloride at the same dosage caused a similar effect in the sarcoma-infected animals. No correlation was observed between tumor weight change and the change in body weight in the treated animals.
