Introduction Socioeconomic disparities have been established for conventional cigarette use, but not for electronic cigarettes. This study estimates socioeconomic gradients in exclusive use of conventional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, and dual use (ie, use of both products) among adults in the United States. Methods Analyses consider nationally representative data on 25- to 54-year-old respondents to the 2014-2016 National Health Interview Surveys (N = 50306). Demographically adjusted seemingly unrelated regression models estimate how two socioeconomic status measures-respondent education and household income-relate to current exclusive use of conventional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, and dual use. Results Conventional cigarette use exhibits negative education and income gradients, consistent with existing research: -12.9 percentage points (confidence interval [CI]: -14.0, -11.8) if college educated, and -9.5 percentage points (CI: -10.9, -8.1) if household income exceeds 400% of the federal poverty level. These gradients are flatter for dual use (-1.4 [CI: -1.8, -0.9] and -1.9 [CI: -2.5, -1.2]), and statistically insignificant for electronic cigarette use (-0.03 [CI: -0.5, 0.4] and -0.3 [CI: -0.8, -0.2]). Limiting the sample to ever-smokers, higher education is associated with a 0.9 percentage point increase in likelihood of exclusive electronic cigarette use at interview (CI: 0.0, 1.9). Conclusions Education and income gradients in exclusive electronic cigarette use are small and statistically insignificant, contrasting with strong negative gradients in exclusive conventional cigarette use. Furthermore, more educated smokers are more likely to switch to exclusive e-cigarette use than less educated smokers. Such differential switching may exacerbate socioeconomic disparities in smoking-related morbidity and mortality, but lower the burden of tobacco-related disease. Implications Research has not yet established whether socioeconomic disparities in electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use resemble those observed for conventional cigarettes. This article uses nationally representative data on US adults aged 25-54 to estimate income and education gradients in exclusive use of conventional cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and dual use. Both gradients are steep and negative for conventional cigarette use, but flat and statistically insignificant for e-cigarette use. Repeating the analysis among ever-smokers indicates that more educated smokers are more likely to transition toward exclusive e-cigarette use than less educated smokers. Such differential substitution may exacerbate disparities in smoking-related morbidity and mortality.

A series of allyl (1-3) and cinnamyl (4-6) palladium(II) complexes supported by hydroxyl functionalized triazolylidenes have been prepared. All new compounds were fully characterized by means of H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopy, FT-IR and elemental analyses. The new triazolylidene palladium complexes were tested as precatalysts in the coupling of aryl chlorides with boronic acids and the coupling of esters with amines to produce biphenyls and amides, respectively. According to the overall results, complexes 4 and 5 displayed the highest catalytic activity in both coupling processes, providing good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions and using a wide range of substrates.

We report a highly efficient ortho-selective electrophilic chlorination of phenols utilizing a Lewis basic selenoether catalyst. The selenoether catalyst resulted in comparable selectivities to our previously reported bis-thiourea ortho-selective catalyst, with a catalyst loading as low as 1%. The new catalytic system also allowed us to extend this chemistry to obtain excellent ortho-selectivities for unprotected anilines. The selectivities of this reaction are up to >20:1 ortho/para, while the innate selectivities for phenols and anilines are approximately 1:4 ortho/para. A series of preliminary studies revealed that the substrates require a hydrogen-bonding moiety for selectivity.

Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of 50-30-6.

2,6-Dichlorobenzamide (BAM) is a major groundwater micropollutant posing problems for drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) that depend on groundwater intake. Aminobacter sp. MSH1 uses BAM as the sole source of carbon, nitrogen, and energy and is considered a prime biocatalyst for groundwater bioremediation in DWTPs. Its use in bioremediation requires knowledge of its BAM-catabolic pathway, which is currently restricted to the amidase BbdA converting BAM into 2,6-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,6-DCBA) and the monooxygenase BbdD transforming 2,6-DCBA into 2,6-dichloro-3-hydroxybenzoic acid. Here, we show that the 2,6-DCBA catabolic pathway is unique and differs substantially from catabolism of other chlorobenzoates. BbdD catalyzes a second hydroxylation, forming 2,6-dichloro-3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid. Subsequently, glutathione-dependent dehalogenases (BbdI and BbdE) catalyze the thiolytic removal of the first chlorine. The remaining chlorine is then removed hydrolytically by a dehalogenase of the alpha/beta hydrolase superfamily (BbdC). BbdC is the first enzyme in that superfamily associated with dehalogenation of chlorinated aromatics and appears to represent a new subtype within the alpha/beta hydrolase dehalogenases. The activity of BbdC yields a unique trihydroxylated aromatic intermediate for ring cleavage that is performed by an extradiol dioxygenase (BbdF) producing 2,4,6-trioxoheptanedioic acid, which is likely converted to Krebs cycle intermediates by BbdG.

Objectives: To evaluate the performance of a high-throughput research assay for HIV drug resistance testing based on whole genome next-generation sequencing (NGS) that also quantifies HIV viral Load. Methods: Plasma samples (n = 145) were obtained from HIV-positive MSM (HPTN 078). Samples were analysed using clinical assays (the ViroSeq HIV-1 Genotyping System and the Abbott RealTime HIV-1 Viral Load assay) and a research assay based on whole-genome NGS (veSEQ-HIV). Results: HIV protease and reverse transcriptase sequences (n =142) and integrase sequences (n =138) were obtained using ViroSeq. Sequences from all three regions were obtained for 100 (70.4%) of the 142 samples using veSEQ-HIV; results were obtained more frequently for samples with higher viral Loads (93.5% for 93 samples with >5000 copies/mL; 50.0% for 26 samples with 1000-5000 copies/mL; 0% for 23 samples with <1000 copies/mL). For samples with results from both methods, drug resistance mutations (DRMs) were detected in 33 samples using ViroSeq and 42 samples using veSEQ-HIV (detection threshold: 5.0%). Overall, 146 major DRMs were detected; 107 were detected by both methods, 37 were detected by veSEQ-HIV only (frequency range: 5.0%-30.6%) and two were detected by ViroSeq only. HIV viral Loads estimated by veSEQ-HIV strongly correlated with results from the Abbott RealTime Viral Load assay (R-2 = 0.85; n = 142). Conclusions: The NGS-based veSEQ-HIV method provided results for most samples with higher viral Loads, was accurate for detecting major DRMs, and detected mutations at Lower Levels compared with a method based on population sequencing. The veSEQ-HIV method also provided HIV viral Load data. Safety of 2,6-Dichlorobenzoic acid. Information on mixture adsorption equilibrium is vital in developing adsorption-based separation processes. Because measuring mixture adsorption is more difficult than measuring single-component adsorption, far more data of the latter kind are available. Previous efforts to compile experimental mixture adsorption data for gases have given data sets with at most a few dozen examples. Here, we report the results of systematic literature meta-analysis that produced a data set of more than 900 gas mixture adsorption experiments. This collection includes data from 125 different binary mixtures including 60 different molecular species and information from 333 different adsorbents. We refer to this data set as the Binary adsorption ISOtherm ExperimeNtal 2020 (BISON-20) Database. Because the BISON-20 data set enormously expands the number and variety of experimental results for binary gas adsorption that are readily available, it will be a useful resource for future efforts in developing new materials or processes for gas separations. As initial applications of the BISON-20 data set, we show how identifying replicate measurements can be used to assess the reliability of binary adsorption data, how the accuracy of Ideal Adsorbed Solution Theory (IAST) can be systematically tested using experimental data, and how trends in selectivity for gas separations across many materials can be examined.

Four donor-acceptor-donor region isomers (2,3-TXO-PhCz, 2,6-TXO-PhCz, 2,7-TXO-PhCz, and 3,6-TXO-PhCz) are designed. The substitution positions of the two PhCz units significantly impact the photophysical properties of the isomers, especially for the singlet-triplet energy splitting (Delta E-ST) and oscillator strength (f ). 2,3-TXO-PhCz exhibits weak emission due to the large steric hindrance of the two PhCz units. While 2,6-TXO-PhCz, 2,7-TXO-PhCz, and 3,6-TXO-PhCz all exhibit strong emission. The four emitters possess small Delta E-ST of 0.01-0.24 eV; the corresponding f values are 0.064, 0.107, 0.026, and 0.134. Consequently, the photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of the doped films in CBP host are: 62.1% for 2,3-TXO-PhCz, 83.8% for 2,6-TXO-PhCz, 89.0% for 2,7-TXO-PhCz, and 85.4% for 3,6-TXO-PhCz. Although notable divergences of f and Delta E-ST exist between 2,6-TXO-PhCz and 2,7-TXO-PhCz, similar PLQY of doped film in the CBP host, and exciton utilization and external quantum efficiency (EQE) of the corresponding devices can be achieved: 2,6-TXO-PhCz and 2,7-TXO-PhCz endow the organic light-emitting devices with high EQE of 23.2% and 24.4%. This proximity can be attributed to the synergistic effect of f and Delta E-ST. This finding highlights the beneficial role of the different linking positions on the acceptor unit in facilitating the adjustment of f and Delta E-ST in order to improve the device efficiency.

Ozone pollution, which can be caused by photochemical reactions, has become a serious problem. The ozone formation potential (OFP) is used to describe the photochemical reactivity. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are main precursors of ozone formation, and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are important sources of VOCs. Therefore, it is necessary to study the concentration level and OFP of VOCs from WWTPs. In this work, a coking WWTP with anaerobic-oxic-oxic (A/O/O) processes in Shaoguan city, Guangdong province, China, was selected to investigate the characteristics of VOCs at wastewater treatment areas and office areas. The OFP of VOCs was estimated by the maximum incremental reactivity (MIR) coefficient method. Results showed that 17 VOCs were detected, and the total concentration of VOCs was the highest at the raw water tank (857.86 mu g m(-3)). The benzene series accounted for 69.0%-86.9% and was the main component of VOCs in the WWTP. Based on OFP data, the top six VOCs contributing most to the OFP were m-xylene, toluene, p-xylene, o-xylene, styrene, and benzene. This study provides field data and information on the environmental risk of VOCs for coking companies and environmental departments. We found that the priority control sources of VOCs were wastewater treatment units because of their larger OFP contributions.
