Developing efficient and recyclable heterogeneous catalysts for organic reactions in water is important for the sustainable development of chemical industry. In this work, Pd nanoparticles supported on DABCO-functionalized porous organic polymer was successfully prepared through an easy copolymerization and successive immobilization method. Characterization results indicated that the prepared catalyst featured big surface area, hierarchical porous structure, and excellent surface amphiphilicity. We demonstrated the use of this amphiphilic catalyst in two case reactions, i.e. the aqueous hydrodechlorination and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions. Under mild reaction conditions, the catalyst showed high catalytic activities for the two reactions. In addition, the catalyst could be easily recovered and reused for several times. Also, no obvious Pd leaching and aggregation of Pd nanoparticles occurred up during the consecutive reactions.

Background:Licensed therapies for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) do not yet exist, but clinical trials are testing treatment options. Inclusion criteria often require liver biopsy showing fibrosis (F2/3) or cirrhosis (F4) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). However, histological criteria pose a serious obstacle for recruitment. Aims:Characterize the relevance of liver biopsies in the selection of patients with NAFLD. Methods:Patients between 2013 and 2018 with the ICD-10 code K76.0 were analyzed. Fibrosis was defined by the NASH clinical research network (CRN) fibrosis staging system, NASH by a NAFLD activity score (NAS) >= 4. Predictive factors were determined by logistic regression. Results:Liver biopsy was performed in 87/638 (13.6%) patients (49% female, age 52.5 +/- 14.0, BMI 30.4 +/- 5.9 kg/m(2)). Fibrosis stage F0/F1/F2/F3/F4 was observed inN = 7/47/7/17/9, an NAS >= 4 inN = 27. Fibrosis stage F2/F3 and F4 along with NAS >= 4 was found in 1.7% and 0.5% of cases. Liver stiffness measurement, LSM (OR 2.3 per doubling of value; CI 1.3-4.4,p = .005) and FIB-4 (OR 2.3 per doubling of value; CI 1.2-4.4,p = .012) were significant predictors for fibrosis >= F2. Predictive factors for NASH were not identified. Conclusion:The biopsy rate in NAFLD patients is low and fibrosis >= F2 along with NAS >= 4 only present in a few cases. Transient elastography and FIB-4 are useful to select patients at risk for fibrosis for liver biopsy.

In this study, the transformation characteristics of fluorescent dissolved organic matter (FDOM) were investigated to characterize the removal of dissolved organic matter (DOM) during biological treatment of commingled chemical industrial wastewater. The results of fluorescence excitation and emission spectroscopy and parallel factor analysis revealed three components (C1, C2, and C3) of FDOM, which were related not only to surface and sewage sources but also chemical industrial wastewater sources. Resin fractionation results showed that the removal of DOM was affected not only by substrate biodegradability but also by DOM generation, such as intermediates, end products, and soluble microbial products, during biological treatment. However, the same variation tendency between DOM and FDOM, based on molecular weight (MW) distribution, was observed during MW fractionation. The changes in DOM in MW>10 kDa fraction apparently corresponded with C2 variation; the tendency of DOM removal in MW of 0.5-10 kDa fraction was possibly related to the evolutions of all three components; and lastly, the removal of DOM in MW<0.5 kDa fraction was found in accordance with C1 and C3 transformations. The removal and transformation of DOM and FDOM were investigated using gas chromatography-mass spectrometer and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. COA of Formula: C7H4Cl2O2. Chemoselective approaches were developed for derivatizing diastereoselective chromanone spiro-gamma-lactams through the Michael-type addition by using amide as a weak nucleophile to construct the spiro-carbon center under basic conditions. To expand the scope of this post-Ugi cascade reaction, a new series of oxidized chromone derivatives was synthesized by altering solvent from EtOH to DMF. Compounds 7 a and 7 b which could be synthesized in one day, demonstrated comparable anticancer activities with legendary anticancer drug paclitaxel in the PANC and U87 cell lines. This methodology offers a new approach to construct spiro-carbon centers with functionalized chromanones or chromones under mild reaction conditions.

V2O5/TiO2-SiO2-MoO3 (TSM) catalysts exhibit enhanced redox capabilities, but the role of each species in the mixed oxide support is not well understood. Herein, the physicochemical characteristics of molybdenum oxide in TSM were investigated using X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy, and the performance of V/TSM catalysts for the oxidative decomposition of o-chlorotoluene was examined. The V/TSM catalysts exhibited superior performances in this decomposition reaction at low temperatures. The molybdenum species were highly dispersed as Mo6+, replacing Ti4+ in the anatase TiO2 framework and forming a solid solution. The redox capability of the vanadium species in the catalyst was enhanced by electron transfer from the TSM support to vanadium, likely due to the coexistence of Mo6+ and Ti(4+ )in the TSM solid solution, which has a unique structure. These results are expected to contribute to enhancing the abatement of dioxins at low temperatures.

Information on mixture adsorption equilibrium is vital in developing adsorption-based separation processes. Because measuring mixture adsorption is more difficult than measuring single-component adsorption, far more data of the latter kind are available. Previous efforts to compile experimental mixture adsorption data for gases have given data sets with at most a few dozen examples. Here, we report the results of systematic literature meta-analysis that produced a data set of more than 900 gas mixture adsorption experiments. This collection includes data from 125 different binary mixtures including 60 different molecular species and information from 333 different adsorbents. We refer to this data set as the Binary adsorption ISOtherm ExperimeNtal 2020 (BISON-20) Database. Because the BISON-20 data set enormously expands the number and variety of experimental results for binary gas adsorption that are readily available, it will be a useful resource for future efforts in developing new materials or processes for gas separations. As initial applications of the BISON-20 data set, we show how identifying replicate measurements can be used to assess the reliability of binary adsorption data, how the accuracy of Ideal Adsorbed Solution Theory (IAST) can be systematically tested using experimental data, and how trends in selectivity for gas separations across many materials can be examined.

In this paper, synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticles applied as catalyst in photodegradation of Direct Red 23 (DR23) dye using photo-Fenton process in aqueous solution. The Fe3O4 nanoparticles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Design of experiments (DOE) based on Taguchi approach was used. Analysis the response of each experiment was based Signal to Noise (S/N) ratio was calculated. The effective parameters for the degradation of dye were determined and optimized using Taguchi (L-9 (3(4))) orthogonal array experimental design method with four factors having three levels for each factor. The Taguchi approach showed that pH 3 (level 1), catalyst amount = 25 mg/L (level 2), H2O2 concentration = 15 ppm (level 3), and temperature = 35 degrees C (level 3) was optimum conditions for this process. The factor most influencing the process was determined using analysis of variance (ANOVA) method. The most significant factor in this process was pH. The interaction between pH x catalyst amount was the most influencing interaction. The percent (p (%)) of each factor on the degradation of dye was found to be in the following the order: pH (50.306%), catalyst amount (6.887%), H2O2 concentration (39.272%), and temperature (3.456%). The percentage contribution of factors in this process was found to be in the following the order: pH (0.332), catalyst amount (0.101), H2O2 concentration (0.291), and temperature (0.082). So first order reaction with k = 0.0472 min(-1) was observed for the photocatalytic degradation reaction.

The use of the nickel(ii) complex [(TEEDA)NiCl2] (1; TEEDA= N,N,N ‘,N ‘-tetraethyl-ethylendiamine) and nickel(0) complex [Ni(COD)(2)] (5) as pre-catalysts in the additive-free catalytic hydrogenation of benzonitrile (BN) is reported. In the presence of 1 (1 mol%), BN was hydrogenated under relatively mild reaction conditions (100 degrees C, 120 psi H-2, 72 h) to the corresponding secondary imine, N-benzylidenebenzylamine (BBA), in very good yield (83%). As a counterpart, 5 (1 mol%) selectively hydrogenated BN to benzylamine (BA) in excellent yield (96%) under similar reaction conditions (80 degrees C, 120 psi H-2, 24 h). In both cases, nickel nanoparticles (Ni-NPs) were identified as the catalytically active species. These Ni-NPs were formed in situ from 1 and 5 without external additives or additional stabilizers. The use of complex 5 was extended to the hydrogenation of different (hetero) aromatic and aliphatic nitriles.
