Tin oxide (SnO2) is an emerging electron transport layer (ETL) material in halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Among current limitations, open-circuit voltage (V-OC) loss is one of the major factors to be addressed for further improvement. Here a bilayer ETL consisting of two SnO2 nanoparticle layers doped with different amounts of ammonium chloride is proposed. As demonstrated by photoelectron spectroscopy and photophysical studies, the main effect of the novel ETL is to modify the energy level alignment at the SnO2/perovskite interface, which leads to decreased carrier recombination, enhanced electron transfer, and reduced voltage loss. Moreover, X-ray diffraction reveals reduced strain in perovskite layers grown on bilayer ETLs with respect to single-layer ETLs, further contributing to a decrease of carrier recombination processes. Finally, the bilayer approach enables the more reproducible preparation of smooth and pinhole-free ETLs as compared to single-step deposition ETLs. PSCs with the doped bilayer SnO2 ETL demonstrate strongly increased V-OC values of up to 1.21 V with a power conversion efficiency of 21.75% while showing negligible hysteresis and enhanced stability. Moreover, the SnO2 bilayer can be processed at low temperature (70 degrees C), and has therefore a high potential for use in tandem devices or flexible PSCs.

Cardiovascular diseases are among the main causes of mortality in the world. There is evidence of cardiovascular harm after exposure to low lead or mercury concentrations, but the effects of chronic exposure to the association of low doses of these toxic metals are still unknown. The mesenteric vascular reactivity to phenylephrine and the endothelium-dependent vasodilator response assessed by acetylcholine did not change. Additionally, reduced involvement of vasoconstrictor prostanoids derived from cyclooxygenase was observed in the PbHg group. By other regulatory routes, such as potassium channels, the vessel showed a greater participation of BKCa channels, and a reduction in the participation of K-v channels and SKCa channels. The endothelium-independent smooth muscle relaxation was significantly impaired by reducing cGMP, possibly through the hyperstimulation of Phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5). Our results suggested that exposure to low doses of lead and mercury triggers this compensatory mechanism, in response to the augment of arterial pressure.

BackgroundVoice disorders are a worldwide problem impacting human health, particularly for occupational voice users. Avoidance of surface dehydration is commonly prescribed as a protective factor against the development of dysphonia. The available literature inconclusively supports this practice and a biological mechanism for how surface dehydration of the laryngeal tissue affects voice has not been described. In this study, we used an in vivo male New Zealand white rabbit model to elucidate biological changes based on gene expression within the vocal folds from surface dehydration. Surface dehydration was induced by exposure to low humidity air (18.6% + 4.3%) for 8h. Exposure to moderate humidity (43.0% + 4.3%) served as the control condition. Ilumina-based RNA sequencing was performed and used for transcriptome analysis with validation by RT-qPCR.ResultsThere were 103 statistically significant differentially expressed genes identified through Cuffdiff with 61 genes meeting significance by both false discovery rate and fold change. Functional annotation enrichment and predicted protein interaction mapping showed enrichment of various loci, including cellular stress and inflammatory response, ciliary function, and keratinocyte development. Eight genes were selected for RT-qPCR validation. Matrix metalloproteinase 12 (MMP12) and macrophage cationic peptide 1 (MCP1) were significantly upregulated and an epithelial chloride channel protein (ECCP) was significantly downregulated after surface dehydration by RNA-Seq and RT-qPCR. Suprabasin (SPBN) and zinc activated cationic channel (ZACN) were marginally, but non-significantly down- and upregulated as evidenced by RT-qPCR, respectively.ConclusionsThe data together support the notion that surface dehydration induces physiological changes in the vocal folds and justifies targeted analysis to further explore the underlying biology of compensatory fluid/ion flux and inflammatory mediators in response to airway surface dehydration.

Background The side reactions of dehalogenation or C-N coupling tend to occur when halogenated aromatic amines are prepared by catalytic hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds. In this paper, we prepared the sub-microspherical Fe3O4@PDA-Pd NPs catalyst apply it efficiently in the hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds to prepare the halogenated aromatic amines under atmospheric pressure. The catalyst shows a high selectivity of greater than 96% and can effectively inhibit the occurrence of the side reactions of dehalogenation and C-N coupling. Results The optimum condition of the hydroreduction reaction is when tetrahydrofuran is used as solvent and the reaction happens at 50 degrees C for 5 h. The selectivity of the chlorinated aromatic amine and the fluorinated aromatic amine products exceed 99% and the yield exceeds 90%. Only a small amount of dehalogenated products and C-N coupling by-products were produced in the brominated aromatic compound and the iodinated aromatic compound. Conclusion We developed a promising method for preparing the superparamagnetic and strongly magnetic Fe3O4@PDA core-shell sub-microsphere-supported nano-palladium catalyst for catalyzing the hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds. The halogenated aromatic amines were efficiently and highly selectively prepared under atmospheric pressure, with the side reactions of dehalogenation and C-N coupling effectively inhabited simultaneously.

A protocol for solvent-free and additive-free oxidation of primary benzylic C-H bonds with O(2)was presented through adjusting the combination of metalloporphyrins and NHPI as binary catalysts to overcome the deficiencies encountered in current oxidation systems. The effects of reaction temperature, porphyrin structure, central metal, catalyst loading and O(2)pressure were investigated systematically. For the optimized combination of T(2-OCH3)PPCo and NHPI, all the primary benzylic C-H bonds could be functionalized efficiently and selectively at 120 degrees C and 1.0 MPa O(2)with aromatic acids as the primary products. The selectivity towards aromatic acids could reach up to 70-95% in the conversion of more than 30% for most of the substrates possessing primary benzylic C-H bonds in the metalloporphyrin loading of 0.012% (mol/mol). And the superior performance of T(2-OCH3)PPCo among the metalloporphyrins investigated was mainly attributed to its high efficiency in charge transfer and fewer positive charges around central metal Co (II) which favored the adduction of O-2 to cobalt (II) forming the high-valence metal-oxo complex followed by the production of phthalimide N-oxyl radical (PINO) and the initiation of the catalytic oxidation cycle. This work would provide not only an efficient protocol in utilization of hydrocarbons containing primary benzylic C-H bonds, but also a significant reference in the construction of more efficient C-H bonds oxidation systems Graphic Abstract The solvent-free and additive-free oxidation of primary benzylic C-H bonds with O(2)was presented through adjusting the combination of metalloporphyrins and NHPI as binary catalysts, and the highest selectivity towards aromatic acid reached up to 95.1% with the conversion of 88.5% in the optimized combination of T(2-OCH3)PPCo and NHPI. Chiral beta-amino alcohols are important building blocks for the synthesis of drugs, natural products, chiral auxiliaries, chiral ligands and chiral organocatalysts. The catalytic asymmetric beta-amination of alcohols offers a direct strategy to access this class of molecules. Herein, we report a general intramolecular C(sp(3))-H nitrene insertion method for the synthesis of chiral oxazolidin-2-ones as precursors of chiral beta-amino alcohols. Specifically, the ring-closing C(sp(3))-H amination of N-benzoyloxycarbamates with 2 mol% of a chiral ruthenium catalyst provides cyclic carbamates in up to 99% yield and with up to 99% ee. The method is applicable to benzylic, allylic, and propargylic C-H bonds and can even be applied to completely non-activated C (sp(3))-H bonds, although with somewhat reduced yields and stereoselectivities. The obtained cyclic carbamates can subsequently be hydrolyzed to obtain chiral beta-amino alcohols. The method is very practical as the catalyst can be easily synthesized on a gram scale and can be recycled after the reaction for further use. The synthetic value of the new method is demonstrated with the asymmetric synthesis of a chiral oxazolidin-2-one as intermediate for the synthesis of the natural product aurantioclavine and chiral beta-amino alcohols that are intermediates for the synthesis of chiral amino acids, indane-derived chiral Box-ligands, and the natural products dihydrohamacanthin A and dragmacidin A.
