This work presents a new triptycene-based stationary phase (TP-PEG) combining the three-dimensional (3D) triptycene (TP) framework with polyethylene glycol (PEG) moieties for gas chromatographic (GC) separations. Its statically coated capillary column showed high column efficiency of 5263 plates/m determined by naphthalene at 120 degrees C. Its Rohrschneider-McReynolds constants and Abraham solvation system constants were measured to characterize its polarity and molecular interactions with analytes of different types. As evidenced, the TP-PEG column showed high-resolution performance for the isomers of anilines, phenols, halobenzenes and alkanes with distinct advantages over the PEG columns, particularly those critical isomers such as 3,5-/2,3-xylidine (R = 2.94), m-/p-chlorotoluene (R = 1.92), p-/m-cresol (R = 1.89), 2,2-dimethylbutane/2-methylpentane (R = 1.51), 2,2,3-trimethylbutane /2,3-dimethyl pentane (R = 1.74) and 2,3-dimethylpentane/n-heptane (R = 1.92). In addition, it exhibited good column repeatability and reproducibility with the relative standard deviation (RSD) values of 0.02%-0.09% for run-to-run, 0.13%-0.22% for day-to-day and 2.7%-4.1% for column-to-column, respectively, and a wide operational temperature range (30 degrees C-280 degrees C). Organic air pollutants have considerable influence particularly on atmospheric chemistry, compared to other air pollutants. Traffic is one of the major sources of air pollutants occurred in Canakkale atmosphere by both remarkable road and marine traffic loads around the harbors. The aims of this study were finding the daily, week/weekend, and spatial variations of VOC at multiple sampling points of Canakkale and Kilitbahir. In this study, active air samples were collected from the major roads of Kilitbahir and Canakkale Harbors during rush hours and off-peak in 2018 summer. According to the measurement results, average levels of total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) were around 129 mu g/m(3) in Canakkale and 93 mu g/m(3) in Kilitbahir. Toluene was the most abundant compound. Average B: T: E: X ratio was calculated as 2.4:7.0:1:5.5 in Canakkale and 3.2:7.6:1:5.2 in Kilitbahir. According to the sampling points of both locations, levels of TVOC, benzene, toluene, and m,p-xylene in Canakkale and toluene levels in Kilitbahir showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Also, benzene, which was already classified as a human carcinogen, varied diurnally in Kilitbahir (p < 0.05). Toluene levels varied between week and weekend days (p < 0.05). Moreover, measured VOC levels were compared with air quality monitoring station (AQMS) data and meteorological parameters. TVOC levels showed positive correlations with SO2 and PM10 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, a multivariate factor analysis applied to data set including VOC measurements, AQMS data, and meteorological parameters implied that traffic is the predominant factor influencing the air quality around the study sites. A photo-induced atom transfer radical addition (ATRA) of aryl chlorides onto alkenes has been developed in the synthesis of chloroalkyl benzenes, in which chlorine radicals and aryl radicals can be generated simultaneously at ambient temperature without the involvement of any initiator or catalyst. The inherently reactive and energetic chlorine radicals also benefit a photo-induced aminocarbonylation reaction of aryl chlorides with carbon monoxide and amines via a hydrogen-abstraction step. These two reactions can provide an inspiration for organic reaction with a radical-designed process. Finally, a photo-induced multi-phase reaction system is extended to flow mode to yield scaled-up products on a gram scale.

A series of core-shell Co-MOF-74@Mn-MOF-74 samples with different shell thicknesses were prepared by the seed growth method, which were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The shell thickness of these MOF samples were successfully controlled by adjusting the mass ratio between MnCl2 center dot 4H(2)O and Co-MOF-74. On this basis, these MOFs were applied to the catalytic oxidation of toluene. The results showed that with the growth of Mn-MOF-74 in the outer layer of Co-MOF-74, the oxidative selectivity of the substrate to benzaldehyde was greatly improved for the synergy between the core layer and shell layer. The conversion of toluene was 22.4%, and the selectivity of benzaldehyde was 98.1%. In addition, the catalyst can transform various substituted toluene into the corresponding aldehydes in highly selectivity and still keep good stability after four catalytic cycles. The selectivity of the corresponding aldehyde is generally above 80%.

A bisoxazoline-derived NHC known as IBiox-6 reacted smoothly with Ni[P(OEt)(3)](2)Br-2 and Ni(PPh3)(2)Br-2 to give the respective heteroleptic Ni(II) complexes Ni(IBiox-6)[P(OEt)(3)]Br-2 (1) and Ni(IBiox-6)(PPh3)Br-2 (2) in yields of 60% and 71%. Their crystal structures were characterized to reveal a rare cis disposition of the IBiox-6 ligand to the phosphite ligand in 1, while 2 possessed the more common trans configuration. Both complexes catalyzed the cross-electrophile coupling of benzyl chlorides with aryl chlorides and fluorides in the presence of Mg turnings at 50 degrees C via a real one-pot procedure, featuring no requirement for temperature variation or portionwise addition of any coupling partner. In particular, complex 1 showed a better balance between the catalytic activity and selectivity. The scope of the procedure catalyzed by 1 and Mg turnings was investigated, providing a highly selective, simple, and practical approach to the synthesis of diarylmethanes with high steric hindrance and various functional groups, including oligo-diarylmethane with asymmetric structures.

Activated biochar has been used in various areas, i.e., wastewater treatment. However, biochar contains volatile organic compounds, some of which are toxic organic pollutants that pose health risks to human. In this study, activated biochar was prepared by pyrolysis method using rice husks as raw materials and H2O as the activator. The volatile organic compound concentration of biochar before and after activation, as well as the adsorption characteristics of activated biochar, was investigated. The structure of the biochar was characterized by FTIR, SEM, and specific surface area analyzer. The results showed that activated biochar surface was mainly composed of carboxyl groups, and no phenolic hydroxyl or lactone groups formed during the process. In total, 54 volatile organic compounds were analyzed by a gas chromatography-mass spectrometer. The detection frequency of 45 volatile organic compounds reached 100%. The concentration of sum of these compounds was 93.26 and 110.62 mu g/g in the biochar before and after activation, respectively. Results of adsorption experiments showed that the adsorption and resolution of activated biochar to n-hexane were 29.33 and 5.4 mg/g, respectively. Compared to the biochar sample without activation, the activated biochar with the ratio of charcoal to water of 3:1 showed the best adsorption to n-hexane, whose surface area reached 351.23 m(2)/g.

The iron-catalyzed alpha-C-H alkylation of N-methylanilines without any directing group by cross-dehydrogenative coupling between unactivated C(sp(3))-H and C(sp(3))-H bonds has been established for the first time, which provides a good complement to C(sp(3))-H activation reactions and expands the field of Fe-catalyzed C-H functionalizations. Many different C(sp(3))-H bonds in cyclic alkanes, cyclic ethers, and toluene derivatives can be used as coupling partners. A series of new triazole ligands has been synthesized via copper-catalyzed cycloaddition reaction of readily available azides and alkynes. The synthesized compounds were characterized by FTIR, H-1 and C-13 NMR, and high-resolution mass spectra. The ligands provided excellent yields (up to 92%) in the palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling of unactivated aryl chlorides with phenylboronic acid. 1-Benzyl-4-(2,6-dimethoxyphenyl)-lH-1,2,3-triazole was found to be the most effective ligand due to the presence of electron-donating 2,6-dimethoxyphenyl substituent, which made it possible to develop a highly active ligand-catalyst system for the Suzuki reaction of aryl chlorides.

An efficient and operationally simple protocol has been demonstrated for the synthesis of 1,3,5,7-tetrasubstituted pyrimido[4,5-d]pyrimidines via TBHP-mediated direct oxidative coupling of N-uracil amidines and methylarenes under metal-free conditions. Due to the inherent stability of methylarenes compared to aldehydes, the presented synthetic protocol is adaptable to a broad substrate scope, is operationally simple, has no need for stringent protection in the whole preparation process, and has the potential to prepare valuable products that are currently inaccessible or challenging to prepare using conventional methods. It is a significantly important complement to the conventional synthetic methods. The reaction possesses an efficient tandem oxidation-imination-cyclization process.
