Anaerobic treatment of glutamate-rich wastewater in a continuous UASB reactor: Effect of hydraulic retention time and methanogenic degradation pathway was written by Chen, Hong;Wei, Yanxiao;Xie, Chenglei;Wang, Hong;Chang, Sheng;Xiong, Ying;Du, Chunyan;Xiao, Benyi;Yu, Guanlong. To investigate the anaerobic treatment efficiency and degradation pathways of glutamate-rich wastewater under various hydraulic retention times (HRTs), a lab-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor was operated continuously for 180 days. Results showed that high COD (COD) removal efficiencies of 95.5%-96.5% were achieved at HRTs of 4.5 h-6 h with a maximum methane yield of 0.31 L-CH4/g-COD. When the HRT was shortened to less than 3 h, the removal performance of the reactor declined. There also was an excessive accumulation of volatile fatty acids, which implies that an appropriately small HRT is applicable to the UASB reactor treating glutamate-rich wastewater. Methanogenic degradation of glutamate in the UASB reactor depended on the HRT applied, and the typical methane-producing capability of the sludge at an HRT of 3 h, in descending order, was acetate > glutamate > butyrate > H2/CO2 > valerate > propionate. Clostridium and Methanosaeta were predominant in the glutamate-degrading sludge. At least three degradation pathways most likely existed in the UASB reactor, and the pathway via 3-methlaspartate by Clostridium pascui was expected to be dominant. A novel conjugated polymer PFCZ-IM containing 2-(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole units was synthesized and characterized. The basic photophys. properties of the polymer and its fluorescence recognition behaviors toward metal ions and amino acids were investigated. In the study of the response of metal ions, PFCZ-IM had high sensitivity to Fe3+, Ag+ and Cu2+, which significantly quenched the fluorescence of the polymer. The binding of the 2-(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole moiety to Cu2+ was investigated by d. functional theory calculation Interestingly, [PFCZ-IM-Cu2+] also exhibited outstanding characteristics of fluorescence ‘turn on’ in the presence of cysteine (Cys), as the interaction between Cu2+ and Cys caused the polymer to dissociate from the complex. In particular, addition of 30μmol L-1 of Cys can increase the Cu2+-quenching fluorescence of PFCZ-IM by 34.8 times with short response time, demonstrating that [PFCZ-IM-Cu2+] has tremendous potential in the actual detection of Cys. This polymer is expected to be utilized for dual fluorescence detection of specific metal ions and Cys. 2021 Society of Industrial Chem. Cleaner and lower-cost recovery and separation of samarium(III) and cobalt(II) from waste SmCo magnets can effectively alleviate supply risks of the strategic metals. Based on this goal, a family of renewable, low-cost, biocompatible, non-toxic fatty acid-based ionic liquids (FAILs), including [N1888][DA], [N1888][LA] and [N1888][PA] were synthesized and developed for the separation of Sm(III)/Co(II) from samarium-cobalt simulated solution The effect factors, i.e. equilibrium time, FAIL molar concentration, salting-out agent concentration and initial pH of aqueous solution were investigated. The extraction mechanism was proposed to be ion association by slope anal. and FT-IR. Under the optimized extraction conditions, a higher purity CoCl2 (99.5%) product was obtained by a simple extraction-stripping-washing process with the consumption of Na2C2O4 and NH3·H2O. The produced salty wastewater with lower concentration from the process could be recycled. Sm2O3 with a purity of 99% were obtained by roasting the Sm2(C2O4)3 at 800°C for two hours. Under the advocacy of the sustainable development concept, the extraction process and reaction mechanism for arsenic in alk. solution were studied with the aim of optimizing the alk. leaching process of high-arsenic copper smelting ash and promoting the recovery and harmlessness of arsenic. At 25°C, the extractant methyltrioctylammonium underwent 6-8 conversions of Na2CO3 solution with a concentration fraction of 12%, and the extraction capacity of thioarsenite was increased to 86.91%. Furthermore, at 25°C, at an O/A ratio of 1:1 and an phase contact time of 7 min, the thioarsenite stripping exceeded 99%, when using 4% H2O2 + saturated Na2CO3 solution as the stripping. Fourier transform IR spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy, and other anal. methods were used to determine the mechanism of the extraction process. It was evident from our experiments that the CO2-3-type TOMAC and Na2CO3 solutions could be recycled and reused repeatedly. Tri alkyl ammonium hydrogen phthalate based ionic liquid has been explored for the efficient extraction of Zr and Hf from aqueous nitric acid solution During mass transfer Zr formed ZrL2(NO3)+ mono pos. species, which got exchanged with the single cations of the ionic liquid to maintain elec. neutrality in both phase. However, for Hf, the probable extracted species was ML(NO3)2+. The mass transfer processes were spontaneous, endothermic and driven by the entropic change in the systems. The D values for Zr were found to be more than that of the Hf due to more organophilicity of the complex. The significant changes in ligand functionalities: hydroxyl, carbonyl, -CO2 of carboxyl, -OH of carboxyl on complexation with Zr4+ were evidenced by FTIR spectra. Till 200 kGy gamma exposure, the ionic liquid was found to be rigid. No appreciable modification in ligand functionalities were evidenced by FTIR. However, up to 15% reduction in extraction performance was observed The EDXRF spectra of the functionalized ionic liquid after processing of simulated high-level waste showed the presence of U, Zr, Fe, Mn, Rh, Ni, Zn and Y along with minute contamination of Ca and Na. Synthetic dyes can cause many health problems, and their use as food additives is rigorously regulated worldwide. Two methods for the determination of synthetic dyes in food are described in this article. The visual qual. expression method was based on the extraction of synthetic dyes using a liquid anion exchanger (0.01 M solution of trioctylmethylammonium chloride in chloroform). Using this reagent, an optimal transition of 15 anionic synthetic dyes from the aqueous to the organic phase was achieved (R > 99.8%). It was applicable for testing food that must not contain synthetic dyes (wines, juices, etc.) in a very short time (5-10 min). In the case of coloring of the organic phase, identification and quantification was carried out using the HPLC-DAD method described. The rapid and simple method allows for simultaneous determination of 16 synthetic dyes from all food types. The LOD and LOQ ranged from 0.026 to 0.086μg mL-1 and from 0.077 to 0.262μg mL-1 resp., and recovery was 83.7-107.5%. Eutectic solvents with tuneable hydrophobicity: lipid dissolution and recovery was written by Lo, Calvin;Semerel, Jeltzlin;van den Berg, Corjan;Wijffels, Rene H.;Eppink, Michel H. M.. And the article was included in RSC Advances in 2021.Application of 5137-55-3 The following contents are mentioned in the article:

Despite the promising advantages of eutectic solvents, the application of these solvents as an extraction solvent is still limited due to the challenging product recovery. Previously, it was reported that lipids could be recovered from a hydrophobic eutectic solvent with the principle of switchable hydrophobicity. However, this method still involves addnl. chems., such as polymeric amines, water, and CO2, which need to be removed later. In this study, we proposed a different approach by shifting the hydrophobicity spectrum of a semi-hydrophobic solvent. Made of hydrophilic imidazole and hydrophobic hexanoic acid, this combination showed tuneable hydrophobicity when the composition was changed, shown by the change of dipolarity (π*) scale from solvatochromic anal. At low imidazole content, the solvent was able to dissolve sunflower oil and algae oil, whereas, at high imidazole content, the solvent showed high affinity towards water. By adding imidazole to the solution of oil and the solvent, a phase split was induced between the oil-rich upper phase and the solvent-rich lower phase. With this approach, -75% of recovery efficiency was achieved for the two oils, with the purity of âˆ?00% for sunflower oil and 86% for algae oil. This work aims to removing anionic food dyes, Acid Red18 (E124) and Quinoline Yellow WS (E104), from their aqueous solutions The Emulsion Liquid Membrane (ELM) technique was used. ELM consists of diluent (kerosene), nonionic surfactant (0.5 weight% Triton X-45), Aliquat 336 as an extractant. Sulfuric acid (H2SO4) solution was used as an internal aqueous phase. The key parameters impacting the stability of liquid membrane and the efficiency of dye removal were investigated; Almost 98% of E124 at 50 mg/L are successfully extracted under optimum conditions. The extraction of a mixture of the two dyes at equal concentrations (25 mg/L) was conducted and their extraction showed more than 95% of efficiency. The exptl. results of dye mixture (E124, E104) extraction were expressed by the following three quantities: The concentration of Triton X-45, the concentration of Aliquat 336, and the internal phase concentration of H2SO4, represented on three dimensional plots using the Box-Behnken design and the response surface methodol. For each of the parameters, the values of which were determined by exptl. design, these results were subjected to empirical smoothing. This work is focused on the design and preparation of polymer inclusion membranes (PIMs) for potential applications for stannous cation sequestration from water. For this purpose, the membranes have been synthesized employing two polymeric matrixes, namely, polyvinylchloride (PVC) and cellulose triacetate (CTA), properly enriched with different plasticizers. The novelty here proposed relies on the modification of the cited PIMs by selected extractants expected to interact with the target cation in the membrane bulk or onto its surface, as well as in the evaluation of their performances in the sequestration of tin(II) in solution through chemometric tools. The composition of both the membrane and the solution for each trial was selected by means of a D-Optimal Exptl. Design. The samples such prepared were characterized by means of TG-DTA, DSC, and static contact angles investigations; their mech. properties were studied in terms of tensile strength and elastic modulus, whereas their morphol. was checked by SEM. The sequestering ability of the PIMs toward stannous cation was studied by means of kinetic and isotherm experiments using DP-ASV. The presence of tin in the membranes after the sequestration tests was ascertained by μ-ED-XRF mapping on selected samples. Chitosan biopolymer was converted to thiourea-chitosan followed by impregnation with ionic liquid Aliquat-336 using microwave irradiation method. The obtained material Ionic Liquid-Thiourea Chitosan (ILTC) was effectively used for decontamination of Cd(II) and Hg(II) from water bodies. FT-IR, SEM-EDX, XRD and TGA-DTA gives insight of ILTC adsorbent. Choro-complexes of Cd(II) and Hg(II) showed strong adsorption on ILTC as compared native Cd(II) and Hg(II) ions hence the adsorption was carried out in the form of chloro complexes. The adsorption behavior of Cd (II) and Hg (II) ions onto ILTC was investigated through batch method and various batch parameters viz. Contact time, adsorbent dose, initial concentration of adsorbate, pH and point of zero charge were optimized. The maximum adsorption capacities for Cd (II) and Hg (II) at 298 K were found to be 442.5 mg/g and 203.2 mg/g resp. at pH 3.0.
