In this work, Aliquat 336 ([Aliquat+]) based ionic liquids containing the fluorinated anion bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide [NTf-2] was successfully prepared by the anionic exchange replacement of the chloride anion. Changes in the bond orders of S and O atoms of the cation supported such observations. The predicted cation-anion distances were in the range 2.30-2.60 Å. The harmonic force fields of cation and anion were calculated and the complete assignments were performed for both species while the most important bands observed in the IR and Raman spectra of the IL were assigned. In addition, the scaled force constants of cation and anion of the IL were also reported. In this work, novel Bronsted acid-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs) with both solvent and catalytic functionalities for glucose dehydration into 5-HMF were developed without the need of addnl. metal salt catalysts or heterogeneous catalysts. The types of hydrogen bond donor (HBD) and hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA), the ratio of HBD to HBA of the DES, heating time, reaction temperature, initial glucose concentration, and moisture content of the DES were systematically investigated to reveal the interplay of the DES in the conversion of glucose to 5-HMF. The most effective DES was found to be tri-Et benzyl ammonium chloride (TEBAC)/formic acid (FA) (molar ratio: 2:1) with a 5-HMF yield of 30.5 ± 1.0% in glucose dehydration and approx. 100% glucose conversion (initial glucose concentration: 2.5 weight %) in 60 min at 150°C. Most importantly, after five cycles, the TEBAC/FA (1:2) DES retained high stability and catalytic activity, with the yield of 5-HMF remaining 30.1 ± 0.5%. Interestingly, as the water content of the DES increased to 70%, the 5-HMF yield increased to 36.5 ± 1.0% along with an 8.01 ± 1.4% yield of levulinic acid. The finding of this study provided insights into the TEBAC/FA (1:2) DES with dual capabilities that might support more efficient bio-based commodity chem. production methods. Removal of tetracycline (TC) by the adsorption process was investigated by using iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NP) modified with the trioctylmethylammonium thiosalicylate (TOMATS) ionic liquid (IL) (Fe3O4 NP@TOMATS IL) as a new magnetic nanoadsorbent. Examination of the kinetics and adsorption isotherm equations demonstrated that the adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order and the Freundlich isotherm. Also, the amount of equilibrium adsorption capacity is 36 mg g-1 in the real sample. Nevertheless, salting effects and the behavior of hydrochloric acid can be accurately described with the presented extraction model, without determining specific Co(II)-salt cation interaction parameters. The resulting model shows that the salting effects originate from indirect salt cation-solvent interactions that influence the availability of water in the aqueous and organic phases. A large amount of industrial wastewater containing pollutants including toxic dyes needs to be processed prior to its discharge into the environment. Biol. materials such as sugarcane bagasse (SB) have been reported for their role as adsorbents to remove the dyes from water. In this study, the residue SB after fermentation was utilized for the dye removal. A combined pretreatment of NaOH and methyltrioctylammonium chloride was given to SB for lignin removal, and the pretreated SB was utilized for cellulase production from Bacillus aestuarii UE25. The strain produced 118 IU mL-1 of endoglucanse and 70 IU mL-1 of β-glucosidase. SEM and FTIR spectra showed lignin and cellulose removal in fermented SB. This residue was utilized for the adsorption of an azo dye, congo red (CR). The thermodn., isotherm and kinetics studies for the adsorption of CR revealed distinct adsorption features of SB. Untreated SB followed Langmuir isotherm, whereas pretreated SB and fermented SB obeyed the Freundlich isotherm model. The pseudo-second-order model fitted well for the studied adsorbents. The results of thermodn. studies revealed spontaneous adsorption with neg. standard free energy values. Untreated SB showed a 90.36% removal tendency at 303.15 K temperature, whereas the adsorbents comprised of pretreated and fermented SB removed about 98.35% and 97.70%, resp. The study provided a strategy to utilize SB for cellulase production and its use as an adsorbent for toxic dyes removal. Abstract: A new and rapid microextraction approach termed as ultrasonic-assisted ionic liquid-based microextraction (UA-ILME) was developed using ionic liquid Aliquat-336 as extraction solvent for the extraction of chromium and cadmium in bean samples collected from different regions in Turkey. The total amounts of analytes in the samples were measured by flame at. absorption spectrophotometry. The basis of the extraction step is based on the complexation of Cr(III) and Cd(II) with diethyldithiocarbamate at pH 4.0. The hydrophobic ternary complexes containing analytes were then rapidly extracted from the sample solution to the ionic phase under the ultrasonic effect using tricaprylylmethylammonium chloride (Aliquat-336). Some exptl. variables (pH, ligand amount, extraction solvent volume, ultrasound time, extraction temperature and sample volume) were optimized in detail. Following the optimization steps, the limits of detection (LODs, 3Sblank/m) for Cr(III) and Cd(II) were calculated as 0.45 ng mL-1 with linear range of 1.5-380 ng mL-1 and 0.25 ng mL-1 with linear range of 0.8-220 ng mL-1, resp. Enrichment factors and average recoveries were ranged from 125.8-96.4 to 92.7-106.5%, resp. The accuracy and precision of the method were validated by analyzing a certified reference material and spiked recovery tests. The UA-ILME method was successfully applied to the determination of Cd and Cr in the samples, highlighting that the matrix ions under consideration do not affect the extraction and determination steps.
