A series of benzothiazole derivatives bearing a 1,3,4-thiadiazole moiety were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activities. The bioassay results indicated that most of target compounds showed good antiviral activities against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and antibacterial activities against Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) and Ralstonia solanacearum (Rs). Especially, the anti-Xoo effect of title compounds 5k (N-(5-methoxybenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-2-((5-(2-tolyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thio)acetamide) and the anti-Rs effect of title compounds 5a (N-(5-nitrobenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-2-((5-(4-(trifluorom ethyl)phenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thio)acetmide) respectively reached 52.4% and 71.6% at 100 mu g/mL, which are superior to that of bismerthiazol (32.0% and 52.3%). In addition, the protective and inactivation activities of title compound 5i (N-(5-methoxybenzo [d]thiazol-2-yl)-2-((5-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thio)acetamide) against TMV were 79.5% and 88.3%, respectively, which are better than that of ningnanmycin (76.4% and 86.8%). The above research showed that benzothiazole derivatives bearing a 1,3,4-thiadiazole moiety may be used as potential molecular templates in searching for highly-efficient antiviral and antibacterial agents.

Three kinds of novel hydroxyapatite@terbium complex core-shell composites were synthesized with 2-chlorobenzoic acid, 4-chlorobenzoic acid, and 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid as the ligand, respectively. The XRD, UV/vis absorption and FT-IR results show that terbium ions are coordinated with ligands and the corresponding complexes are successfully included into composites. SEM and EDS results reveal that Tb complexes are fully and homogenously coated on the surface of hydroxyapatite (HAP) microspheres consisting of a large number of nanosized crystals. The strongest luminescence properties are obtained when 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid is used as ligand. The study on fluorescence lifetime of composites shows that the lifetime is inversely related to emission intensity. TGA-DSC results indicate that the core-shell composites have an excellent thermal stability. Therefore, the current core-shell structure provides a cost-effective route to manufacture of biocompatible and heat-resistant highly luminescent materials. (C) 2020 Chinese Society of Rare Earths. Cocrystallization of the widely available 4-dimethylaminopyridine, with a series of carboxylic acids gave nine molecular adducts 4-dimethylaminopyridinium trifluoroacetate (1) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium glycolate glycolic acid (2) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 2-furoate dihydrate (3) , tri(4-dimethylaminopyridinium) tri(o-chlorobenzoate) tetrahydrate (4) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 4-bromobenzoate 4-bromobenzoic acid (5) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 4-formylbenzoate 4-formylbenzoic acid (6) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 2,4-dichlorobenzoate (7) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 2-aminobenzoate 2-aminobenzoic acid (8) and bis(4-dimethylaminopyridinium) 5-nitroisophthalate 5-nitroisophthalic acid methanol solvate (9) . Except the N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds, the charge assisted or neutral O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds were also found at 2-6, 8 and 9 . The COOH center dot center dot center dot COO- synthon has been at 2, 5-6 and 8-9. Transition-metal-catalyzed activation of inert C-H bonds and subsequent C-C bond formation have emerged as powerful synthetic tools for the synthesis of elaborate cyclic molecules. In this report, we introduce an efficient synthetic method of 3,4-unsubstituted isocoumarins adopting an electron-deficient (CpRh)-Rh-E complex as the catalyst. The use of vinylene carbonate as a vinylene transfer reagent enables the direct construction of isocoumarins from readily available benzoic acids, without any external oxidants as well as bases. The reaction mechanism is evaluated by computational analysis to find an unprecedented rhodium shift event within the catalytic cycle.

In this study, 13 panaxadiol (PD) derivatives were synthesized via reactions with aromatic compounds and amino acids. Following this, the cytotoxicity of these compounds was evaluated against four cancer cell lines (human hepatoma cells HepG-2, human lung cancer cells A549, human breast cancer cells MCF-7, and human colon cancer cells HCT-116) and one normal cell lines (human gastric epithelial cells GES-1). The results showed that the panaxadiol derivatives 3, 12, and 13 showed significant inhibition of cellular proliferation against cancer cells compared with PD, and the panaxadiol derivative 12 had the lowest IC50 value for A549 (IC50=18.91 +/- 1.03 mu m). For MCF-7 cells, most compounds exhibited good inhibition of cellular proliferation, and the panaxadiol derivative 13 showed the strongest inhibitory effect (IC50=8.62 +/- 0.23 mu m), which significantly increased the cytotoxicity of PD and was stronger than the positive control (mitomycin). For normal cells, all compounds exhibited low or no toxic effects; thus, these derivatives can be used to develop novel antiproliferative agents.

Titanium carbide (TiC) with excellent electrical conductivity, chemical and thermal stabilities has been recognized as one of the most promising electrocatalysts. A novel cathode, titanium carbide doped palladium/nickel foam (TiC-Pd/Ni foam), was synthesized via electroless deposition to improve the performance of Pd/Ni foam in electrocatlytic hydrodechlorination (ECH). TiC can be co-precipitated onto the surface of cathode during galvanic replacement reaction between Pd(II) solution and Ni foam. Both constant potential and constant current tests proved that TiC-Pd/Ni foam cathode performed remarkably higher activity for 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,4-DCBA) than Pd/Ni foam cathode, owing to the excellent conductivity of TiC and enhanced water dissociation over TiC-Pd/Ni foam cathode. Under the optimized reaction conditions of -0.85 V (vs Ag/AgCl), electrolyte of 10 mM and initial pH of 4, 99.8% of aqueous 2,4-DCBA (0.2 mM) was removed within 90 min. The removal process of the aqueous 2,4-DCBA obeyed first-order decay kinetic model. Over 86.3% of 2,4-DCBA can still be removed by TiC-Pd/Ni foam cathode in the fifth consecutive run within 120 min, which was much higher than that of Pd/Ni foam cathode (37.5%). Consequently, TiC-Pd/Ni foam cathode was a promising design for enhanced ECH activity and reduced operation cost.

In this article, based on the structure of the catalytic domains of OfHex1, a series of novel glycosyl triazoles were designed and synthesized via Cu-catalyzed azide-alkyne [3+ 2] cycloaddition reaction. To investigate the potency and selectivity of these glycosyl triazoles, the inhibition activities towards OfHex1 and HsHexB (human beta-N-acetylhexosaminidase B) were studied. Dual effects of cathodic dechlorination and oxidative decomposition of 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,4-DCBA) can be achieved using electrochemical reduction-oxidation technology. The removal efficiency was improved by optimizing the experimental conditions affecting electrode activity and contaminant degradation. The 2,4-DCBA removal efficiency reached 90.8% at a current density at 50 mA.cm(-2), initial pH of 5, and sodium sulfate concentration of 0.05 mol.L-1, with a 2,4-DCBA concentration of 20 mg.L-1. Furthermore, a good total organic carbon removal efficiency of 81.6% was achieved in the electrocatalytic reduction and oxidation process, with the present system retaining high stability after many experiment cycles. The reaction mechanism under different conditions is discussed, which provides new approaches to the degradation of chlorinated organic compounds.
