Cocrystallization of the widely available 4-dimethylaminopyridine, with a series of carboxylic acids gave nine molecular adducts 4-dimethylaminopyridinium trifluoroacetate (1) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium glycolate glycolic acid (2) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 2-furoate dihydrate (3) , tri(4-dimethylaminopyridinium) tri(o-chlorobenzoate) tetrahydrate (4) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 4-bromobenzoate 4-bromobenzoic acid (5) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 4-formylbenzoate 4-formylbenzoic acid (6) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 2,4-dichlorobenzoate (7) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 2-aminobenzoate 2-aminobenzoic acid (8) and bis(4-dimethylaminopyridinium) 5-nitroisophthalate 5-nitroisophthalic acid methanol solvate (9) . The nine adducts have been characterised by X-ray diffraction, IR and elemental analysis, the melting points were also reported. Their structural and supramolecular aspects are fully analyzed. The result reveals that among the nine investigated crystals only the ring Ns in the 4-dimethylaminopyridine moieties are protonated when the carboxylic acids are deprotonated. The crystal packing is interpreted by the strong charge-assisted N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bond between the NH+ and the deprotonated acidic groups. Except the N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds, the charge assisted or neutral O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds were also found at 2-6, 8 and 9 . The COOH center dot center dot center dot COO- synthon has been at 2, 5-6 and 8-9. Further analysis of the crystal packing indicated that a different family of additional CH-O/CH2-O/CH3-O, F-F, Br-Br, CH-Cl, CH3-Cl, CH-pi/CH3-pi, C-H center dot center dot center dot C-pi, C-pi, Cl-O, O-C, O-pi and pi-pi contacts contribute to the stabilization and expansion of the total high-dimensional (2D-3D) framework structures. Synthesis of 50 analogues of the natural insecticide synergists, dillapiol and sesamol, is reported. These were evaluated as potential insecticide synergists based on their inhibition of human CYP3A4. The most potent inhibitors have a relatively large hydrophobic substituent at either position 5 or 6 of these molecules. For example, 5-(benzyloxy)-6-(3-phenylsulfonyl)propyl)benzo[d] [1,3]dioxole (18) and the diphenyl acetate of (6,7-dimethoxybenzo[d] [1,3]dioxol-5-yl)propan-1-ol (5n) show inhibitory concentrations for 50% activity IC50 values of 0.086 and 0.2 mu M, respectively. These compounds are 106 and 46 times more potent than dillapiol whose IC50 for the inhibition of CYP3A4 is 9.2 mu M. The ortho-chloro analogue (8f), whose activity is 86 times the activity of dillapiol, is the most potent of the fourteen 5-(benzyloxy-6-(2-propenyl)benzo[d][1,3]dioxoles prepared for this study.

To obtain a pure product without the isomer byproducts is a goal that many chemists are pursuing. As one kind of very important synthesis method, the photochemical reaction is simple and straightforward yet low-selective. In this work, a coordination interaction based oriented synthesis strategy has been proposed to realize the precise stereochemical control of the isomeric cyclic compounds in the photocycloaddition reaction. Through fixing the reactants via coordination interactions, the arrangements and configurations of the reactants can be adjusted, thereby successfully producing all of the related photocycloaddition products without isomer byproducts for the first time. This work not only provides a new route to synthesize the pure cyclic compounds but also expands the application of the photocycloaddition reaction.

The present research paper reports the convenient synthesis, successful characterization, in vitro antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant potency and biocompatibility of N-acyl-morpholine-4-carbothioamides (5a-5j). The biocompatible derivatives were found to be highly active against the tested bacterial and fungal strains. Moreover, some of the screened N-acyl-morpholine-4-carbothioamides exhibited excellent antioxidant potential. Docking simulation provided additional information about possibilities of their inhibitory potential against RNA. It has been predicted by in silico investigation of the binding pattern that compounds 5a and 5j can serve as the potential surrogate for design of novel and potent antibacterial agents. The results for the in vitro bioassays were promising with the identification of compounds 5a and 5j as the lead and selective candidate for RNA inhibition. Results of the docking computations further ascertained the inhibitory potential of compound 5a. Based on the in silico studies, it can be suggested that compounds 5a and 5j can serve as a structural model for the design of antibacterial agents with better inhibitory potential. [GRAPHICS] .

Analysis of acidic pharmaceuticals in complex biological samples is a challenging and formidable task due to the existence of interfering constituents within the sample matrices. Therefore, in order to avoid analytical column clogging and suppression/enhancement of signals of the analyte of interest, herein a simple, cost-effective and quick online ion chromatography based clean-up setup was introduced. This system was further coupled with a cost-effective homemade photochemically induced fluorimetric (PIF) setup for direct online conversion of non fluorescent acidic pharmaceutical drugs into their respective fluorescent species. This advantageous system was favorably applied for the determination of four non-fluorescent acidic compounds in two complex biological samples (human serum and oral fluid) with minimum labor and organic solvent consumption. At optimized conditions, the developed method has shown good sensitivity, selectivity, satisfactory recoveries (88.68-102.14%) and low limits of detection (0.35-8.10 mu g/L) with minimum or zero matrix effect.

We have discovered a new mode of reactivity of 1-thiosugars in the presence of Cu(II) or Co(II) for a stereoselective O-glycosylation reaction. The process involves the use of a catalytic amount of Cu(acac)(2) or Co(acac)(2) and Ag2CO3 as an oxidant in alpha,alpha,alpha-trifluorotoluene. Moreover, this protocol turned out to have a broad scope, allowing the preparation of a wide range of complex substituted O-glycoside esters in good to excellent yields with an exclusive 1,2-trans-selectivity. In this study, a novel approach was developed for the dechlorination of 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,4-DCBA) via the combination of the moveable activated carbon (AC) supported palladium (Pd) nanoparticles and nickel (Ni) foam electrode. The morphology and chemical structure of Pd/AC catalyst was investigated by various characterization techniques, including SEM, TEM, EXS-mapping, XRD, and XPS. Pd nanoparticles was successfully loaded and dispersed on the AC, accompanied with the significantly enhanced reactivity. The removal rate of 2,4-DCBA by Ni electrode with moveable Pd/AC catalyst was 222, 25, and 5 folds higher than dispersed AC and Ni electrode system, chemical deposited Pd/Ni electrode, and electrodeposited Pd/Ni electrode, respectively. Compared with the conventional electrocatalytic reductive approach which deposited Pd on the Ni foam electrode, moveable Pd/AC catalyst possesses higher surface area, more atomic H* production and more active sites, favored mass transfer, and enhanced reactivity, without the consideration of catalyst loss and deactivation. The effects of Pd:AC mass ratio, constant current, initial solution pH, and electrolyte concentration on the dechlorination of 2,4-DCBA were studied. Generally, high Pd loading, constant current, and acidity favored the dechlorination of 2,4-DCBA, while excessive electrolyte would inhibit the dechlorination of 2,4-DCBA. Good longevity and recyclability of moveable Pd/AC catalyst was confirmed via consecutive experiments. The findings of the present study show that making the catalyst moveable is a promising strategy for electrocatalytic remediation technology.

Synthesis of 50 analogues of the natural insecticide synergists, dillapiol and sesamol, is reported. These were evaluated as potential insecticide synergists based on their inhibition of human CYP3A4. The most potent inhibitors have a relatively large hydrophobic substituent at either position 5 or 6 of these molecules. For example, 5-(benzyloxy)-6-(3-phenylsulfonyl)propyl)benzo[d] [1,3]dioxole (18) and the diphenyl acetate of (6,7-dimethoxybenzo[d] [1,3]dioxol-5-yl)propan-1-ol (5n) show inhibitory concentrations for 50% activity IC50 values of 0.086 and 0.2 mu M, respectively. These compounds are 106 and 46 times more potent than dillapiol whose IC50 for the inhibition of CYP3A4 is 9.2 mu M. The ortho-chloro analogue (8f), whose activity is 86 times the activity of dillapiol, is the most potent of the fourteen 5-(benzyloxy-6-(2-propenyl)benzo[d][1,3]dioxoles prepared for this study.
