Preparation of an ordered mesoporous polypyrrole/carbon (PPy/OMC) composite has been described through a two-step nanocasting process using KIT-6 as a template. Characterization of the PPy/OMC nanocomposite by various analysis methods such as TEM, XRD, TGA, SEM and N-2 sorption confirmed the preparation of a material with ordered mesoporous structure, uniform pore size distribution, high surface area and high stability. This nanocomposite was then used for the immobilization of palladium nanoparticles. The nanoparticles were almost uniformly distributed on the support with a narrow particle size of 20-25 nm, confirmed by various analysis methods. Performance of the Pd@PPy/OMC catalyst was evaluated in the aerobic oxidation of various primary and secondary alcohols on water as a green solvent, giving the corresponding carboxylic acids and ketones in high yields and excellent selectivity. The catalyst could also be reused for at least 10 reaction runs without losing its catalytic activity and selectivity. High catalytic efficiency of the catalyst can be attributed to a strong synergism between the PPy/OMC and that of supported Pd nanoparticles.

Treatment of [(Me3tacn)RuCl3 center dot H2O] (Me3tacn = 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7-tri-azacyclononane) with substituted benzoic acid or phenylacetic acid, in water in the presence of potassium hexafluorophosphate gave a series of cationic dinuclear Ru(III)-Ru(III) (mu-oxo)bis(mu-carboxylato) complexes [(Me3tacn)2Ru2(mu-O)(mu-OOCR)2](PF6)2 (R = Ph, 1; -py, 2; -C6H4-2-Cl, 3; -C6H3-2,4-Cl2, 4; -CH2C6H4-2-CH3, 5; -CH2C6H4-4-CH3, 6; -CH2C6H4-4-OCH3, 7; -CH2C6H4-4-Cl, 8). 20(R)-25-hydroxyprotopanaxadiol (25-OH-PPD) is a natural compound showing a variety of anti-tumor effects. In an attempt to search for a new anti-cancer compound with higher antitumor activities, we designed and synthesized a series of 25-OH-PPD derivatives. Cytotoxicity assay of these derivatives towards MCF-7, A549, U87, HO-8901, Hela cancer cell lines and normal IOSE144 cell lines were tested by MTF assay. Results showed that compared with compound 25-OH-PPD, Compounds 4, 5, 6, 10, 11 showed strong anticancer activity, and all compounds showed low toxicity or no toxicity for normal cells. In particular, compound 6 exhibited the best anti-tumor activity in all cancer cell lines (MCF-7, A549, U87, HO-8901, and Hela) with IC50 values of 5.04 mu M, 1.36 mu M, 3.24 mu M, 3.47 mu M, 4.57 mu M, respectively. Among the five cell lines, all the compounds showed strong inhibition on A549 cells. Further studies showed that Compound 6 significantly inhibited the proliferation of A549 cells by inducing apoptosis. Our results indicate that Compound 6 is a potential anticancer inhibitor and provides a theoretical basis for further research.

In this study, a type of thiazolium-labeled 1,3,4-oxadiazole thioether bridged by diverse alkyl chain lengths was constructed. The antimicrobial activity of the fabricated thioether toward plant pathogenic bacteria and fungi was then screened. Antibacterial evaluation indicated that title compounds possess specific characteristics that enable them to severely attack three phytopathogens, namely, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, Ralstonia solanacearum, and Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri with minimal EC50 values of 0.10, 3.27, and 3.50 mu g/mL, respectively. Three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship models were established to direct the following excogitation for exploring higher active drugs. The in vivo study against plant bacterial diseases further identified the prospective application of title compounds as alternative antibacterial agents. The proteomic technique, scanning electron microscopy patterns, and fluorescence spectrometry were exploited to investigate the antibacterial mechanism. Additionally, some target compounds performed superior inhibitory actions against three tested fungal strains. In view of their simple molecular architecture and highly efficient bioactivity, these substrates could be further explored as promising surrogates for fighting against plant microbial infections.

Transition-metal-catalyzed activation of inert C-H bonds and subsequent C-C bond formation have emerged as powerful synthetic tools for the synthesis of elaborate cyclic molecules. In this report, we introduce an efficient synthetic method of 3,4-unsubstituted isocoumarins adopting an electron-deficient (CpRh)-Rh-E complex as the catalyst. The use of vinylene carbonate as a vinylene transfer reagent enables the direct construction of isocoumarins from readily available benzoic acids, without any external oxidants as well as bases. The reaction mechanism is evaluated by computational analysis to find an unprecedented rhodium shift event within the catalytic cycle.

Three kinds of novel hydroxyapatite@terbium complex core-shell composites were synthesized with 2-chlorobenzoic acid, 4-chlorobenzoic acid, and 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid as the ligand, respectively. The XRD, UV/vis absorption and FT-IR results show that terbium ions are coordinated with ligands and the corresponding complexes are successfully included into composites. SEM and EDS results reveal that Tb complexes are fully and homogenously coated on the surface of hydroxyapatite (HAP) microspheres consisting of a large number of nanosized crystals. The strongest luminescence properties are obtained when 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid is used as ligand. The study on fluorescence lifetime of composites shows that the lifetime is inversely related to emission intensity. TGA-DSC results indicate that the core-shell composites have an excellent thermal stability. Therefore, the current core-shell structure provides a cost-effective route to manufacture of biocompatible and heat-resistant highly luminescent materials. (C) 2020 Chinese Society of Rare Earths. The A-type Aurora kinase is upregulated in many human cancers, and it stabilizes MYC-family oncoproteins, which have long been considered an undruggable target. Here, we describe the design and synthesis of a series of pyrimidine-based derivatives able to inhibit Aurora A kinase activity and reduce levels of cMYC and MYCN. Through structure-based drug design of a small molecule that induces the DFG-out conformation of Aurora A kinase, lead compound 13 was identified, which potently (IC50 < 200 nM) inhibited the proliferation of high-MYC expressing small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) cell lines. Pharmacokinetic optimization of 13 by prodrug strategies resulted in orally bioavailable 25, which demonstrated an 8-fold higher oral AUC (F = 62.3%). Pharmacodynamic studies of 25 showed it to effectively reduce cMYC protein levels, leading to >80% tumor regression of NCI-H446 SCLC xenograft tumors in mice. These results support the potential of 25 for the treatment of MYC-amplified cancers including SCLC.
