Tracing the herbicide bixlozone and its metabolites in food is necessary to assess their risks to human health. In the study, a rapid and effective analytical method using the quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe method for the simultaneous determination of bixlozone and its metabolites (2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid, 3-hydroxy-propanamide-bixlozone, and 5 ‘-hydroxy-bixlozone) in plant and animal samples (tomato, cucumber, apple, wheat flour, meat, milk, and egg) was developed based on ultra high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The method was validated based on the linearity (R-2 > 0.99), sensitivity (limit of quantification = 0.01 mg/kg), recovery (70.2-115.1%), and precision (intraday 1.2-17.6%, interday 0.3-16.0%). Detection was achieved within 6.0 min. The method is reliable for the determination of four target compounds in all seven matrices. The satisfactory validation criteria and successful application show that the proposed methodology is suitable for the detection of four target compounds in real matrices.

Analysis of acidic pharmaceuticals in complex biological samples is a challenging and formidable task due to the existence of interfering constituents within the sample matrices. Therefore, in order to avoid analytical column clogging and suppression/enhancement of signals of the analyte of interest, herein a simple, cost-effective and quick online ion chromatography based clean-up setup was introduced. This system was further coupled with a cost-effective homemade photochemically induced fluorimetric (PIF) setup for direct online conversion of non fluorescent acidic pharmaceutical drugs into their respective fluorescent species. This advantageous system was favorably applied for the determination of four non-fluorescent acidic compounds in two complex biological samples (human serum and oral fluid) with minimum labor and organic solvent consumption. At optimized conditions, the developed method has shown good sensitivity, selectivity, satisfactory recoveries (88.68-102.14%) and low limits of detection (0.35-8.10 mu g/L) with minimum or zero matrix effect.

The CTAB-Pd/GAC catalyst was obtained by functionalizing palladium/granular activated carbon (Pd/GAC) with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), which was used for the electrocatalytic reductive dechlorination of 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,4-DCBA). The degradation rate of 2,4-DCBA by 40 mg g(-1) CTAB-Pd/GAC was 9.8 x 10(-3) (min(-1) g(-1) Pd), which was 11 folds than that by Pd/GAC (0.9 x 10(-3) min(-1) g(-1) Pd), and the value of q(e, 2,4-DCBA)/q(e), BA was 2.33 as compared to 0.67 for Pd/GAC. The combined result of dechlorination and adsorption experiments suggested that the functionalization by CTAB would enhance the 2,4-DCBA concentration on the surface of CTAB-Pd/GAC, and accelerate the degradation rate. However, the removal efficiency of 2,4-DCBA would decrease when the CTAB load reached 80 mg g(-1), due to the excessive adsorption capacity for dech-lorinated product. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations also proved that CTAB would increase adsorption capacity of catalyst and selective adsorption behavior of 2,4-DCBA, which accelerated the degradation rate of 2,4-DCBA.

Green, simple, and highly efficient various strategies for the straightforward reduction of carboxylic acids to corresponding alcohols have been developed by employing four different types of cost-effective hydrogen donors, namely sodium borohydride (NaBH4), ammonium formate (HCO2NH4), glycerol, and isopropanol (i-PrOH) in the presence of Fe3O4@APTMS@ZrCp2Clx ((x = 0, 1, 2)) as a robust and durable nanocatalyst under neat conditions. Also, the mentioned magnetically separable nanocatalyst was recovered and reused at least five times without significant loss in catalytic activity. In comparison with the known protocols for the direct reduction of carboxylic acids to corresponding alcohols, our current methods offer several benefits such as being straightforward (without isolation of aldehyde intermediates), mild reaction conditions, eco-friendly, short reaction times, good to excellent yields of the products, use of inexpensive hydrogen donors, recoverability, and reusability of the catalyst and so on.

Electrochemical reduction-oxidation processes with the aid of cathode catalysts are promising technologies for the decomposition of organic compounds. High-efficiency and low-cost catalysts for electrochemical reductive dechlorination and two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are vital to the overall degradation of chlorinated organic compounds. This study reports electrochemical dechlorination using a single-atom Co-loaded sulfide graphene (Co-SG) catalyst via atomic hydrogen generated from the electrochemical reduction of H2O and electrolysis of hydrogen. The Co-SG electrocatalyst exhibited a remarkable performance for H2O2 synthesis with a half-wave potential of 0.70 V (vs RHE) and selectivity over 90%. The high electrochemical performance was achieved for bifunctional electrocatalysis with regard to the smaller overpotentials, faster kinetics, and higher cycling stability compared to the noble metal-based electrocatalysts. In this study, 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid was well degraded and the TOC concentration was effectively reduced. This work introduces the preparation of a new active site for high-performance single-atom catalysts and also promotes its application in the electrochemical degradation of chlorinated organic pollutants.

In this study, a novel approach was developed for the dechlorination of 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,4-DCBA) via the combination of the moveable activated carbon (AC) supported palladium (Pd) nanoparticles and nickel (Ni) foam electrode. The morphology and chemical structure of Pd/AC catalyst was investigated by various characterization techniques, including SEM, TEM, EXS-mapping, XRD, and XPS. Pd nanoparticles was successfully loaded and dispersed on the AC, accompanied with the significantly enhanced reactivity. The removal rate of 2,4-DCBA by Ni electrode with moveable Pd/AC catalyst was 222, 25, and 5 folds higher than dispersed AC and Ni electrode system, chemical deposited Pd/Ni electrode, and electrodeposited Pd/Ni electrode, respectively. Compared with the conventional electrocatalytic reductive approach which deposited Pd on the Ni foam electrode, moveable Pd/AC catalyst possesses higher surface area, more atomic H* production and more active sites, favored mass transfer, and enhanced reactivity, without the consideration of catalyst loss and deactivation. The effects of Pd:AC mass ratio, constant current, initial solution pH, and electrolyte concentration on the dechlorination of 2,4-DCBA were studied. Generally, high Pd loading, constant current, and acidity favored the dechlorination of 2,4-DCBA, while excessive electrolyte would inhibit the dechlorination of 2,4-DCBA. Good longevity and recyclability of moveable Pd/AC catalyst was confirmed via consecutive experiments. The findings of the present study show that making the catalyst moveable is a promising strategy for electrocatalytic remediation technology.

A novel third-nonlinear optical (NLO) crystal, piperazine-1,4-diium bis(2,4-dichlorobenzoate) (abbreviated as PBDCB) was successfully synthesized and grown good quality crystal by slow evaporation solution growth technique by methanol as a solvent at room temperature. The formation of the grown crystal was carried out by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The analysis of a single crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that the title compound was crystallized in the monoclinic system with centrosymmetric space group P21/c and thereof lattice parameter are a = 11.166(6) angstrom, b = 8.160(5) angstrom, c = 12.085(6) angstrom, beta= 113.18(3) degrees, Z = 4. Crystallographic studies also reveal that the molecules are linked via N-HO and C-H Cl hydrogen bonds. Pairs of intermolecular N-HO hydrogen bonds generate R 4 4 (12) ring motifs. The powder X-ray diffraction study was completed and the peaks were indexed. UV-Vis spectral studies were revealed that the grown crystal is transparent in the entire visible region with a lower cut off the wavelength of 286 nm. The optical band gap of the title compound was measured by Tauc’s plot method, and it was obtained to be 3.9 eV, which shows suitable applications of the optoelectronic device. In the photoluminescence study, the grown crystal was revealed violet emission radiation, and thereof peak has appeared at 312 nm. The functional groups of the grown crystal have been determined by Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) spectroscopy technique. In thermogravimetric (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) analysis, the title material was determined as thermally as stable up to 163 degrees C. The Vickers Microhardness test ascertained the mechanical properties of the grown crystal material, and it belongs to a soft material category. The dielectric measurements of the developed crystal material were also ascertained at various frequencies. The dielectric constant, dielectric loss, and A.C. the conductivity of title material was studied with different frequencies and temperatures. The laser damage threshold (LDT) of the grown crystal was then calculated by using Nd: YAG laser. The grown crystal has given the measured (LDT) value of 8.97 GW/cm2. The third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties characteristics, such as absorption coefficient (beta similar to 0.02 x 10 -4 cm/W), the refractive index (n(2) similar to 4.06 x 10(-8) cm(2)/W), and their susceptibility range values of (chi((3)) similar to 2.17 x 10(-6)esu) of the grown crystal was estimated by Z-scan technique, suggests that the grown crystal material PBDCB was served as a promising source for nonlinear optical devices. To learn more about the structure-activity relationships of (E)-3-(5-styryl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)benzenesulfonamide derivatives, which in our previous research displayed promising in vitro anticancer activity, we have synthesized a group of novel (E)-5-[(5-(2-arylvinyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)]-4-chloro-2-R-1-benzenesulfonamides 7-36 as well as (E)-4-[5-styryl1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]benzenesulfonamides 47-50 and (E)-2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-5-(2-arylvinyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazols 51-55. All target derivatives were evaluated for their anticancer activity on HeLa, HCT-116, and MCF-7 human tumor cell lines. The obtained results were analyzed in order to explain the influence of a structure of the 2-aryl-vinyl substituent and benzenesulfonamide scaffold on the anti-tumor activity. Compound 31, bearing 5-nitrothiophene moiety, exhibited the most potent anticancer activity against the HCT-116, MCF-7, and HeLa cell lines, with IC50 values of 0.5, 4, and 4.5 mu M, respectively. Analysis of structure-activity relationship showed significant differences in activity depending on the substituent in position 3 of the benzenesulfonamide ring and indicated as the optimal meta position of the sulfonamide moiety relative to the oxadizole ring. In the next stage, chemometric analysis was performed basing on a set of computed molecular descriptors. Hierarchical cluster analysis was used to examine the internal structure of the obtained data and the quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) analysis with multiple linear regression (MLR) method allowed for finding statistically significant models for predicting activity towards all three cancer cell lines.
