Metal(II) chelates of Schiff bases derived from the condensation of multi-substituted aniline with salicylaldehyde derivatives were prepared Product structures were determined by NMR, IR, EPR, magnetic and cyclic voltammetry measurements. The complexes are of the type M(X-DPMP)2 [(M = Cu(II), Ni(II) or Co(II)), DPMP = 2-[[(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imino]methyl]phenol, X = Br, Cl, I, BrCl]. These Schiff bases behave as monobasic bidentate ligands in their complexes. The spectral data indicate that the ligand coordinates through a phenolic oxygen and the azomethine nitrogen atoms. The observed A || values in the Cu(II) complexes indicate a tetrahedrally distorted square planar structure. The cyclic voltammetric redox potential of copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes suggest the existence of irreversible pairs in acetonitrile. Cu(Br-DPMP)2 was found to be an efficient catalyst for the cyanosilylation of aldehydes under mild conditions.

Many azomethine derivatives of 5-chloro-, 5-bromo-, 3-bromo-5-chloro-, and 5-bromo-3-chlorosalicylaldehyde were prepared and tested for their antibacterial and antifungal activities. The azomethine derivatives of 5-chlorosalicylaldehyde showed no antibacterial activity, but were active against all tested fungi except Nocardia asteroides. The azomethine derivatives of 5-bromosalicylaldehyde had no antibacterial activity, and species variable antifungal activity. The azomethine derivatives of 5-bromo-3-chloro- and 3-chloro-5-bromosalicylaldehyde were poor antifungal agents, compared with the 5-chloro or 5-bromosalicylaldehyde derivatives, probably due to the blocking of the phenolic group by substituents on both sides. However, they were better antibacterial agents than the 5-monosubstituted salicylaldehyde derivatives, most being active against S. aureus at 6.25-12.5 μg/ml.

The integrin αvβ3, vitronectin receptor, is expressed in a number of cell types and has been shown to mediate adhesion of osteoclasts to bone matrix, vascular smooth muscle cell migration, and angiogenesis. The authors recently disclosed the discovery of a tripeptide Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) mimic, which has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the integrin αvβ3 and has excellent anti-angiogenic properties including its suppression of tumor growth in animal models. In other investigations involving RGD mimics, only compounds containing the S-isomers of the β-amino acids have been shown to be potent. The authors were surprised to find the potencies of analogs containing enantiomerically pure S-isomers of β-amino acids which were only marginally better than the corresponding racemic mixtures Thus, the authors synthesized RGD mimics containing R-isomers of β-amino acids and found them to be relatively potent inhibitors of αvβ3. One of the compounds, peptidomimetic I, was examined in tumor models in mice and has been shown to significantly reduce the rate of growth and the size of tumors.

All target compounds showed different degree analgesic effects in neuropathic pain, the analgesic effect of twin drug of nNOS-PSD-95 interrupts and gabapentin, pregabalin twin drug in neuropathic pain was stronger than that of single target drugs. Twin drug with nNOSPSD-95 interrupts and gabapentin, pregabalin may get a better analgesic effect than that of single target drugs in neuropathic pain.

2H-Chromene and its derivatives are an important class of organic compounds due to their wide range of biol. activities such as antimicrobial, antiviral, antiinflammatory and antitubercular agents. In the present work, we have synthesized ten new 2H-chromene derivatives [(E)-4-(2-phenyl-2H-chromen-3-yl)but-3-en-2-one and its substituted analogs] by aldol condensation of 2H-chromene-3-carbaldehydes with acetone. These products have been characterized by means of spectral data (1H, 13C, IR, Mass). The structure of (E)-4-(6,8-dichloro-2-phenyl-2H-chromen-3-yl)but-3-en-2-one was confirmed by X-ray anal. The compounds were evaluated for in vitro antimicrobial activity against two Gram pos. bacteria [Streptococcus mutans (MTCC 497) and Streptococcus pyogenes (MTCC 1926)] and three Gram neg. bacteria [Vibrio cholera (MTCC 3909), Shigella flexneri (MTCC 1457) and Salmonella enteric typhi (MTCC 1252)]. The obtained results from in vitro antimicrobial assays by the broth dilution method indicated that many of the compounds exhibited excellent activity against all the microorganisms in comparison to standard kanamycin.
