The UiO-66-NH2@Ru was prepared from ZrCl4, 2-amino-terephthalic acid (TPA-NH2) and [Ru(bpy)(3)](2+) by one pot reaction through solvothermal method, which exhibited dual emission signals at 445 and 595 nm from single excitation of 350 nm. The corresponding two peaks showed different responses to melamine, that was, the obvious enhancement at 445 nm and the slow decrease at 595 nm, thus achieving the on-off ratiometric fluorescence detection. When the concentration of melamine was in the range of 0.27 to 110 mu M, the ratio of fluorescence intensity F-445/F-595 had a good linear relation with the correlation coefficient R-2 = 0.995 and the detection limit of 90 nM. The synthetic UiO-66-NH2@Ru probe implemented rapid determination of melamine in real sample of milk powder with high sensitivity and selectivity. Compared with the reported carbon dots, quantum dots, metal nanoclusters, nanocomposites and other fluorescent sensors, MOFs-based sensor have broadened the application of nanomaterials in melamine detection for the first time. This study also demonstrates the Zr-based MOFs as a platform to encapsulate fluorescent dye for constructing ratiometric sensor in the determination of melamine is feasible and exciting.

Effect of calcium chloride (CaCl2) on gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) accumulation pathways in fresh-cut pears was investigated. The metabolites, enzyme activity and gene expression associated with GABA shunt and polyamine degradation were measured. Results demonstrated that CaCl2 treatment promoted GABA accumulation and reduced the glutamate (Glu) content in fresh-cut pears. Anoctamin1 (ANO1), a calcium-activated chloride ion channel (CaCC), is associated with various physiological functions including cancer progression and metastasis/invasion. ANO1 has been considered as a promising target for cancer therapeutics as ANO1 is over-expressed in a variety of cancers including glioblastoma (GBM) and inhibition of ANO1 has been reported to suppress cell proliferation, migration and invasion in GBM. GBM is one of the most common and aggressive cancers with poor prognosis with median survival for 15 months. Lack of effective treatment options against GBM emphasizes urgent necessity of effective GBM therapeutics. In an effort to discover potent and selective ANO1 inhibitors capable of inhibiting GBM cells, we have designed and synthesized a series of new 2-aminothiophene-3-carboxamide derivatives and performed SAR studies using both fluorescent cellular membrane potential assay and whole-cell patch-clamp recording. We observed that among these substances, 9c and 10q strongly suppress ANO1 channel activities and possess remarkable selectivity over ANO2. Unique structural feature of 10q, a cyclopentane-fused thiophene-3-carboxamide derivative, is the presence of benzoylthiourea functionality which dramatically contributes to activity. Both 9c and 10q suppress more strongly proliferation of GBM cells than four reference compounds including 3, Ani-9 and are also capable of inhibiting much more strongly colony formation than reference compounds in both 2D colony formation assay and 3D soft agar assay using U251 glioma cells. In addition, 9c and 10q suppress far more strongly migration/invasion of GBM cells than reference compounds. We, for the first time, found that the combination of ANO1 inhibitor (9c or 3) and temozolomide (TMZ) brings about remarkable synergistic effects in suppressing proliferation of GBM cells. A series of PVC films stabilized with novel antimicrobial itaconimido aryl 1,3,4-oxadiazoles (D1′-D4′), at absence or presence of various concentrations of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), was prepared by a conventional solution casting method. Objective. Ischemia-reperfusion injury refers to the exacerbated and irreversible tissue damage caused by blood flow restoration after a period of ischemia. The hypoxia-reoxygenation (H/R) model in vitro is ideal for studying ischemia-reperfusion injury at the cellular level. We employed this model and investigated the effects of cobalt chloride- (CoCl2-) induced H/R in cells derived from mouse digital flexor tendons. Materials and Methods. Various H/R conditions were simulated via treatment of tendon-derived cells with different concentrations of CoCl2 for 24 h, followed by removal of CoCl2 to restore a normal oxygen state for up to 96 h. Cell viability was measured using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. Cell growth was determined via observation of cell morphology and proliferation. Oxidative stress markers and mitochondrial activity were detected. The expression levels of hypoxia-inducible factor- (HIF-) 1 alpha, vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A), collagen I, and collagen III were determined using Western blot (WB), real-time PCR, and immunofluorescence staining. Cellular apoptosis was analyzed via flow cytometry, and the expression of apoptosis-related proteins Bax and bcl-2 was examined using WB. Results. The cells treated with low concentrations of CoCl2 showed significantly increased cell viability after reoxygenation. The increase in cell viability was even more pronounced in cells that had been treated with high concentrations of CoCl2. Under H/R conditions, cell morphology and growth were unchanged, while oxidative stress reaction was induced and mitochondrial activity was increased. H/R exerted opposite effects on the expression of HIF-1 alpha mRNA and protein. Meanwhile, the expression of VEGF-A was upregulated, whereas collagen type I and type III were significantly downregulated. The level of cellular apoptosis did not show significant changes during H/R, despite the significantly increased Bax protein and reduced bcl-2 protein levels that led to an increase in the Bax/bcl-2 ratio during reoxygenation. Conclusions. Tendon-derived cells were highly tolerant to the hypoxic environments induced by CoCl2. Reoxygenation after hypoxia preconditioning promoted cell viability, especially in cells treated with high concentrations of CoCl2. H/R conditions caused oxidative stress responses but did not affect cell growth. The H/R process had a notable impact on collagen production and expression of apoptosis-related proteins by tendon-derived cells, while the level of cellular apoptosis remained unchanged.

Hole transport materials (HTMs) play an important role in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). At present, the most frequent used HTM is spiro-OMeTAD. However, spiro-OMeTAD without dopants have low electrical conductivity and hole mobility. Therefore, the improvement of mobility and conductivity of hole transport layer (HTL) has become a crucial issue. Here, we introduce a dopant, thionyl chloride (SOCl2), to oxidize spiro-OMeTAD and generate more spiro-OMeTAD(+). Under the same conditions, the optimized device doped with SOCl2 achieves a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 20.76%, while the pristine one is only 18.13%. The doping of SOCl2 not only reduces the density of defect states at the interface between perovskite and HTL, but also suppresses the recombination of light-induced carriers. In addition, the stability of the PSCs based on SOCl2 is greatly improved, which can maintain 90% of the initial PCE for 31 days under ambient conditions. This work provides a simple and feasible strategy for dopant engineering of HTL to achieve efficient PSCs. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The Yamuna river has become one of the most polluted rivers in India as well as in the world because of the high-density population growth and speedy industrialization. The measurement of the quality can be done by water quality assessment. In this study, the water quality index has been calculated for the Yamuna river at Dehradun using monthly measurements of 12 physicochemical parameters. Trend forecasting for river water pollution has been performed using different parameters for the years 2020-2024 at Dehradun. The study shows that the values of four parameters namely, Temperature, Total Coliform, TDS, and Hardness are increasing yearly, whereas the values of pH and DO are not rising heavily. The considered physicochemical parameters for the study are TDS, Chlorides, Alkalinity, DO, Temperature, COD, BOD, pH, Magnesium, Hardness, Total Coliform, and Calcium. As per the results and trend analysis, the value of total coliform, temperature, and hardness are rising year by year, which is a matter of concern. The values of the considered physicochemical parameters have been monitored using various monitoring stations installed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), India.

Therefore, resistance to chloride ion attacks plays a significant role in improving the durability of concrete structures. As a non-destructive testing technique, resistivity is used for characterising the resistance of concrete to chloride ion penetration. In this study, the resistivity of coral aggregate concrete is measured using an improved alternating-current test method, and the improved method overcomes the limitations that is prone to polarization reaction and heating of the solution under exposure to voltage for an extended period. Porosity was used to analyze the reasons for the different resistivity values of coral concrete from micro-aspects. The resistivity model at 365 days was established considering the effects of temperature, humidity, admixture, and water-binder ratio on coral aggregate concrete. Objectives: The combination therapy of phenothrin (PHT) and ivermectin (PI regimen) was effective for pyrethroid-resistant head lice in Okinawa; however, further investigations have been required to improve the regimen. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of the modified PI (mPI) regimen, which increased the maximum number of PHT treatments in the PI regimen by one, in Tsukuba, which has a low mutation rate compared to Okinawa. Methods: An open-label, uncontrolled, exploratory study was conducted at the Department of Dermatology, University of Tsukuba Hospital to investigate the treatment effect of mPI regimen. Genotypes were investigated for the knockdown (kdr) mutations at voltage-sensitive sodium channel (VSSC) and glutamate-gated chloride receptor-encoding loci to identify their correlation with drug resistance. Results: All the 8 patients treated with the mPI regimen resulted in lice free on day 29. Compared to baseline, the number of bodies, eggs, and itching grade significantly decreased on day 29. Mild erythema appeared after the second application of PHT on day 8 in one patient, persisted for 2 days, and recovered on day 15. No other adverse events were reported. Mutation rates were more than double in head lice collected from one patient for whom PHT was ineffective compared to those in lice from patients who responded to PHT. Furthermore, we identified four new haplotypes of VSSC loci in head lice. Conclusions: The mPI regimen is a potential effective treatment for economically combating both PHT-sensitive and resistant head lice.
