Surface behavior and interfacial mixing properties of the cationic surfactant hexadecyl benzylammonium chloride (HDBAC) and anionic one sodium di-2-ethylhexylsulfosuccinate (AOT) were studied at four temperatures (288-318 K) in an aqueous solution using tensiometry method. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) for individual and binary mixture was evaluated to gain the interfacial parameters such as surface excess concentration, min. area per mols. of single and mixture system, and interfacial free energy. The results show expansion of min. area per mols. of binary mixture (about 1000-2500 Å2) compared with that of single surfactants (about 100-250 Å2). Based on Rosen′s model, the synergism parameters were calculated and the data obtained show that neg. values of mol. interaction parameter (βσ ) indicate an attractive interaction between the surfactants, where the more neg. value was – 7.63146 for the mixture of 90% AOT and 10% HDBAC. Also, the values of activity coefficients less than unity indicate a strong synergistic interaction between the two surfactants.
