Quaternary alkyl ammonium compounds (QAACs) are produced in large quantities for use as surfactants and disinfectants and also found in soils, sediments, and surface waters, where they are potentially involved in the selection of antibiotic resistance genes. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of six homologs of benzylalkylammonium chlorides (BAC) was determined in deionized water, 0.01 M CaCl2 solution, and aqueous soil extracts, using both spectrofluorometric and tensiometric methods. Addnl., eight organic model compounds were employed at concentrations of 15 mg C L-1 as background solutes in order to test the effect of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) on CMCs. Results found CMCs decreased with an increasing length of the alkyl chain from 188 mM for BAC-C8 to 0.1 mM for BAC-C18. Both methods yielded similar results for measurements in water and CaCl2 solution; however, the spectrofluorescence method did not work for soil extracts due to fluorescence quenching phenomena. In soil extracts, CMCs of BAC-C12 were reduced below 3.7 mM, while the CMC reduction in soil extracts was less pronounced for BAC-C16. Besides ionic strength, mol. structures of BACs and dissolved organic compounds also affected the CMC. The number of carboxyl groups and small mol. weights of the DOC model compounds reduced the CMCs of BAC-C12 and BAC-C16 at pH 6. This study highlights that CMCs can be surpassed in soil solution, pore waters of sediments, or other natural waters even at (small) concentrations of QAACs typically found in the environment. Both inhibitors significantly lower HSP70 ATPase activity and substrate protein disaggregation activity. However, KBR1307 displays a lower IC50 value at the MCF-7 cell line compared to PES. Both inhibitors do not alter HSP70 secondary structure composition and overall stability. KBR1307 effectively inhibits HSP70 compared to PES and provides a promising template for novel anticancer drug development. Praseodymium (Pr) and neodymium (Nd) are considered as the light rare earth elements that have received significant attention due to their many applications. The extraction of Pr and Nd from NdFeB magnet-leaching solution using nitrate form of Aliquat 336 was investigated to show the interactive effects in solvent extraction process. The response surface methodol. (RSM) based on central composite design (CCD) was used for exptl. modeling and optimization. The studied variables included Aliquat 336 concentration of 0.30 to 0.85 mol/L, organic to aqueous phase ratio (O/A) of 1 to 3, pH of 2.0 to 5.0, and nitrate concentration of 2.2 to 5.6 mol/L. According to the results, it was found that there were effective inter-parameter interactions in which justified different feedbacks of the system under different operational conditions. Furthermore, two separated optimizations (i.e., co-extraction efficiency and operational selectivity) were also performed by desirability function method. In the optimization of co-extraction efficiency, the Pr and Nd extraction efficiencies were obtained 99.7% and 93.9%, resp., while, the above responses in the optimization of operational selectivity were obtained 74.8% and 61.2%, resp. The values of separation factor were determined same (i.e., 2.1) for both the optimizations. Meanwhile, it was found the stripping of Pr and Nd ions from the loaded organic phase can be effectively conducted under the 0.02 mol/L hydrochloric acid solution within a contact time of 5 min conditions. Also, the FT-IR anal. confirms the transformation of the metal-nitrate complex into the organic phase. Microalgae have garnered widespread attention as a sustainable source of pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals. As for extracting lipids from microalgae, the combination of microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) and ionic liquids (IL) is shown to be promising. However, such an undertaking usually requires a large consumption of expensive ILs. This study innovatively employs tetra-Me ammonium chloride ([TMAm][Cl]) as an additive in water medium to associate with microwave-assisted ionic liquid extraction (MAILE) in extracting lipids from Nannochloropsis oceanica (N. oceanica) microalgae. In extraction, knowledge of reaction kinetics is crucial since it provides the foundation for developing, controlling, and improving the processes of extraction Herein, using MAILE, lipids are extracted from N. oceanica microalgae and transesterified to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Mass transfer kinetics are, therefore, investigated using the first and second-order rate law and Patricelli’s model. In the development of models, the influence of temperature (60-90°C) and reaction time (1-25 min) on EPA extraction is empirically evaluated. From the thermodn. study, the pos. values of ΔS (+0.10 kJ mol-1K-1) and ΔH (+32.50 kJ mol-1) and the neg. value of ΔG (-1.68 to -4.75 kJ mol-1) confirm that this process is endothermic in nature, irreversible and spontaneous. MAILE proves to be a promising approach for the extraction of high-quality EPAs.
