The reactions of the NiCl2·6H2O/indium system with various nitroarenes proceeded with high yields to give 82-95% anilines and showed selectivity over other labile substituents. Among the 12 anilines prepared were 95% o-aminoacetophenone, 94% p-chloroaniline, 92% m-bromo-p-aminotoluene and 91% p-aminophenylacetonitrile.
