A magnetic nanocatalyst was purveyed as a heterogeneous recoverable palladium-based catalyst anchored on green, sustainable and phosphine free support. Resulted Fe3O4@SiO2-Phen-Pd(0) nanocatalyst bearing powerful phenanthroline ligand was thoroughly characterized by physicochemical approaches like UV-vis, FT-IR, EDX, XRD, TGA, ICP, VSM, DLS, FESEM, and TEM analyses. After finding trustable data, the obtained magnetic catalyst was considered to be applied in the Suzuki-Miyaura type C-C couplings and getting corresponding tetrazoles using arylboronic acid derivatives as alternate precursors of aromatic halides and stupendous data were observed.

Novel heteroleptic Ni (II) complexes bearing a highly hindered yet flexible IPr* ligand, Ni (IPr*)(PPh3)Br-2 (1) and Ni (IPr*)(PCy3)Br-2 (2) (IPr* = 1,3-bis(2,6-bis (diphenylmethyl)-4-methylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene), were easily prepared in 78% and 89% yield, respectively. Both were characterized by elemental analysis and NMR spectroscopy, and 1 was subjected to X-ray crystallography. Compared with 2 and its analogue bearing a less sterically demanding IPr ligand (IPr = 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene), complex 1 exhibited superior catalytic activity in the magnesium-mediated reductive coupling of benzyl chlorides with aryl chlorides, featuring outstanding tolerance of both coupling partners with steric demand. This study discloses a ligand-facilitated reductive coupling of benzyl chlorides with aryl chlorides, which provides a new and practical synthetic tool for the synthesis of diarylmethanes.

Introduction Socioeconomic disparities have been established for conventional cigarette use, but not for electronic cigarettes. This study estimates socioeconomic gradients in exclusive use of conventional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, and dual use (ie, use of both products) among adults in the United States. Methods Analyses consider nationally representative data on 25- to 54-year-old respondents to the 2014-2016 National Health Interview Surveys (N = 50306). Demographically adjusted seemingly unrelated regression models estimate how two socioeconomic status measures-respondent education and household income-relate to current exclusive use of conventional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, and dual use. Results Conventional cigarette use exhibits negative education and income gradients, consistent with existing research: -12.9 percentage points (confidence interval [CI]: -14.0, -11.8) if college educated, and -9.5 percentage points (CI: -10.9, -8.1) if household income exceeds 400% of the federal poverty level. These gradients are flatter for dual use (-1.4 [CI: -1.8, -0.9] and -1.9 [CI: -2.5, -1.2]), and statistically insignificant for electronic cigarette use (-0.03 [CI: -0.5, 0.4] and -0.3 [CI: -0.8, -0.2]). Limiting the sample to ever-smokers, higher education is associated with a 0.9 percentage point increase in likelihood of exclusive electronic cigarette use at interview (CI: 0.0, 1.9). Conclusions Education and income gradients in exclusive electronic cigarette use are small and statistically insignificant, contrasting with strong negative gradients in exclusive conventional cigarette use. Furthermore, more educated smokers are more likely to switch to exclusive e-cigarette use than less educated smokers. Such differential switching may exacerbate socioeconomic disparities in smoking-related morbidity and mortality, but lower the burden of tobacco-related disease. Implications Research has not yet established whether socioeconomic disparities in electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use resemble those observed for conventional cigarettes. This article uses nationally representative data on US adults aged 25-54 to estimate income and education gradients in exclusive use of conventional cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and dual use. Both gradients are steep and negative for conventional cigarette use, but flat and statistically insignificant for e-cigarette use. Repeating the analysis among ever-smokers indicates that more educated smokers are more likely to transition toward exclusive e-cigarette use than less educated smokers. Such differential substitution may exacerbate disparities in smoking-related morbidity and mortality.

Background:Licensed therapies for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) do not yet exist, but clinical trials are testing treatment options. Inclusion criteria often require liver biopsy showing fibrosis (F2/3) or cirrhosis (F4) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). However, histological criteria pose a serious obstacle for recruitment. Aims:Characterize the relevance of liver biopsies in the selection of patients with NAFLD. Methods:Patients between 2013 and 2018 with the ICD-10 code K76.0 were analyzed. Fibrosis was defined by the NASH clinical research network (CRN) fibrosis staging system, NASH by a NAFLD activity score (NAS) >= 4. Predictive factors were determined by logistic regression. Results:Liver biopsy was performed in 87/638 (13.6%) patients (49% female, age 52.5 +/- 14.0, BMI 30.4 +/- 5.9 kg/m(2)). Fibrosis stage F0/F1/F2/F3/F4 was observed inN = 7/47/7/17/9, an NAS >= 4 inN = 27. Fibrosis stage F2/F3 and F4 along with NAS >= 4 was found in 1.7% and 0.5% of cases. Liver stiffness measurement, LSM (OR 2.3 per doubling of value; CI 1.3-4.4,p = .005) and FIB-4 (OR 2.3 per doubling of value; CI 1.2-4.4,p = .012) were significant predictors for fibrosis >= F2. Predictive factors for NASH were not identified. Conclusion:The biopsy rate in NAFLD patients is low and fibrosis >= F2 along with NAS >= 4 only present in a few cases. Transient elastography and FIB-4 are useful to select patients at risk for fibrosis for liver biopsy.

Copper-catalyzed Csp2-Csp2 bond forming reactions through C-H activation are still one of the most useful strategies for the diversification of heterocyclic moieties using various coupling partners. A catalytic protocol for the C-H (hetero)arylation of thiazolo[5,4-f]quinazolin-9(8H)-ones and more generally fused-pyrimidinones using catalyst loading of CuI with diaryliodonium triflates as aryl source under microwave irradiation has been disclosed. The selectivity of the transfer of the aryl group was also disclosed in the case of unsymmetrical diaryliodonium salts. Specific phenylation of valuable fused-pyrimidinones including quinazolinone are provided. This strategy enables a rapid access to an array of various (hetero)arylated N-containing polyheteroaromatics as new potential bioactive compounds.

We report the development of a facile protocol for the deoxygenative hydroboration of aliphatic and aryl carboxylic acids to afford corresponding primary alcohols under solvent-free and catalyst-free conditions. A series of core-shell Co-MOF-74@Mn-MOF-74 samples with different shell thicknesses were prepared by the seed growth method, which were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The shell thickness of these MOF samples were successfully controlled by adjusting the mass ratio between MnCl2 center dot 4H(2)O and Co-MOF-74. On this basis, these MOFs were applied to the catalytic oxidation of toluene. The results showed that with the growth of Mn-MOF-74 in the outer layer of Co-MOF-74, the oxidative selectivity of the substrate to benzaldehyde was greatly improved for the synergy between the core layer and shell layer. The conversion of toluene was 22.4%, and the selectivity of benzaldehyde was 98.1%. In addition, the catalyst can transform various substituted toluene into the corresponding aldehydes in highly selectivity and still keep good stability after four catalytic cycles. The selectivity of the corresponding aldehyde is generally above 80%.
