Chloroaluminate ionic liquids (ILs) have been immensely used as homogeneous catalyst in Friedel-Crafts reaction. We have recently synthesized chloroaluminate ILs by reacting aluminium chloride with a hydrophobic neutral ligand i.e. tributylamine (TBA:AlCl3). The current study elaborates on the investigations of the composition of the ionic liquids at various stages of their formation. The ionic liquids were synthesized using various mole ratios of tributyl amine and aluminium chloride in range of 1:1 to 1:2.3, in presence of an aromatic solvent in a one pot reaction. Various characterization techniques like Mass spectrometry, Al-27 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, P-31 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy were used to elucidate the formation of various moieties of the TBA:AlCl3 Ionic Liquid. This study also elaborates on the investigations of the cationic and anionic moieties and their structure-property relationship for various applications. Various Friedel-Crafts reaction of industrial importance were performed using the ionic liquid having (Al2Cl7)(-) moiety to assess its performance and compared with conventional processes. The synthesized products were characterised by sophisticated analytical techniques like H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, FTIR, GC-MS, GC-FID, to name a few. This class of ionic liquids also have importance in various electrochemical applications like aluminium deposition and aluminium batteries. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Environmental transformation products of pesticides (ETPPs) have a great deal of ecological impact owing to their ability to cause toxicity to the aquatic organisms, which can then be translated to the humans. The limited experimental data on biochemical and toxic effects of ETPPs, the high test costs together with regulatory limitations and the international push to reduce animal testing encourage greater dependence on predictive in silico techniques like quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models. The aim of the present work was to explore the key structural features, which regulate the toxicity towards fishes, for 85 ETPPs using a partial least squares (PLS) regression based chemometric model developed according to Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) guidelines. The model was extensively validated using both internal and external validation metrics, and the results so obtained justify the reliability and usefulness of the developed model (Q(2) = 0.648, R-pred(2) or Q(F1)(2) = 0.734 and Q(F2)(2) = 0.733). From the developed model, we can conclude that lipophilicity, polarity, presence of branching and the functional form of 0-atom in the transformed structures of pesticides are the important features that are to be considered during ecotoxicity assessment of ETPPs. The information obtained from the descriptors of the developed model could be utilized in the future for assessing ETPPs with the benefit of providing an early warning of their potentially detrimental effect on fishes for regulatory purposes. 2,6-Dichlorobenzamide (BAM) is a major groundwater micropollutant posing problems for drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) that depend on groundwater intake. Aminobacter sp. MSH1 uses BAM as the sole source of carbon, nitrogen, and energy and is considered a prime biocatalyst for groundwater bioremediation in DWTPs. Its use in bioremediation requires knowledge of its BAM-catabolic pathway, which is currently restricted to the amidase BbdA converting BAM into 2,6-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,6-DCBA) and the monooxygenase BbdD transforming 2,6-DCBA into 2,6-dichloro-3-hydroxybenzoic acid. Here, we show that the 2,6-DCBA catabolic pathway is unique and differs substantially from catabolism of other chlorobenzoates. BbdD catalyzes a second hydroxylation, forming 2,6-dichloro-3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid. Subsequently, glutathione-dependent dehalogenases (BbdI and BbdE) catalyze the thiolytic removal of the first chlorine. The remaining chlorine is then removed hydrolytically by a dehalogenase of the alpha/beta hydrolase superfamily (BbdC). BbdC is the first enzyme in that superfamily associated with dehalogenation of chlorinated aromatics and appears to represent a new subtype within the alpha/beta hydrolase dehalogenases. The activity of BbdC yields a unique trihydroxylated aromatic intermediate for ring cleavage that is performed by an extradiol dioxygenase (BbdF) producing 2,4,6-trioxoheptanedioic acid, which is likely converted to Krebs cycle intermediates by BbdG.

Twenty benzothiazole derivatives bearing a 1,3,4-oxadiazole moiety were synthesized and evaluated for their anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Among these compounds, 8h and 81 were appeared to have high radical scavenging efficacies as 0.05 +/- 0.02 and 0.07 +/- 0.03 mmol/L of IC50, values in ABTS(+center dot) bioassay, respectively. In anti-inflammatory tests, compound 8h displayed good activity with 57.35% inhibition after intraperitoneal administration, which was more potent than the reference drug (indomethacin). Molecular modeling studies were performed to investigate the binding mode of the representative compound 8h into COX-2 enzyme. In vitro enzyme study implied that compound 8h exerted its anti-inflammatory activity through COX-2 inhibition.

A series of imidazolium-based palladate precatalysts has been synthesized and the catalytic activity of these air- and moisture-stable complexes evaluated as a function of the nature of the imidazolium counterion. These precatalysts can be converted under catalytic conditions to Pd-NHC species capable of enabling the Buchwald-Hartwig aryl amination and the alpha-arylation of ketones. A series of benzothiazole derivatives bearing a 1,3,4-thiadiazole moiety were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activities. The bioassay results indicated that most of target compounds showed good antiviral activities against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and antibacterial activities against Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) and Ralstonia solanacearum (Rs). Especially, the anti-Xoo effect of title compounds 5k (N-(5-methoxybenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-2-((5-(2-tolyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thio)acetamide) and the anti-Rs effect of title compounds 5a (N-(5-nitrobenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-2-((5-(4-(trifluorom ethyl)phenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thio)acetmide) respectively reached 52.4% and 71.6% at 100 mu g/mL, which are superior to that of bismerthiazol (32.0% and 52.3%). In addition, the protective and inactivation activities of title compound 5i (N-(5-methoxybenzo [d]thiazol-2-yl)-2-((5-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thio)acetamide) against TMV were 79.5% and 88.3%, respectively, which are better than that of ningnanmycin (76.4% and 86.8%). The above research showed that benzothiazole derivatives bearing a 1,3,4-thiadiazole moiety may be used as potential molecular templates in searching for highly-efficient antiviral and antibacterial agents.

The development of more reactive, general, easily accessible, and readily avail-able Pd(II)-NHC precatalysts remains a key challenge in homogeneous catalysis. In this study, we establish air-stable NHC-Pd(II) chloro-dimers, [Pd(NHC)(mu-Cl) Cl](2), as the most reactive Pd(II)-NHC catalysts developed to date. Most crucially, compared with [Pd(NHC)(allyl)Cl] complexes, replacement of the allyl throw-away ligand with chloride allows for a more facile activation step, while effec-tively preventing the formation of off-cycle [Pd-2(mu-allyl)(mu-Cl)(NHC)(2)] products. The utility is demonstrated via broad compatibility with amide cross-coupling, Suzuki cross-coupling, and the direct, late-stage functionalization of pharmaceu-ticals. Computational studies provide key insight into the NHC-Pd(II) chloro-dimer activation pathway. A facile synthesis of NHC-Pd(II) chloro-dimers in one-pot from NHC salts is reported. Considering the tremendous utility of Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions and the overwhelming success of [Pd(NHC)(allyl)Cl] precatalysts, we believe that NHC-Pd(II) chloro-dimers, [Pd(NHC)(mu-Cl)Cl](2), should be considered as go-to precatalysts of choice in cross-coupling processes.

The Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction is an effective process for C-C bond formation in organic synthesis. Herein, we report a NiO nanodot-decorated Pd/SiC catalyst, synthesized by atomic layer deposition, which shows high photocatalytic activity for the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of both aryl bromides and chlorides with phenylboronic acid at 30 degrees C in air. The Mott-Schottky contact in SiC/Pd enhances the rapid transfer of the photogenerated electrons from SiC to Pd nanoparticles. Moreover, the energy different between the highest occupied molecular orbital of the ultrafine NiO nanodots and the Fermi level of Pd forces a spontaneous electron transfer from NiO to Pd. As a result, the concentrated electrons in the Pd nanoparticles can facilitate the cleavage of C-Br or C-Cl bonds, which normally requires rather high temperatures in thermal processes. The holes left on the SiC support can assist the cleavage of the C-B bond. (C) 2020 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
