To develop novel therapeutic agents with anticancer activities, two series of novel 2,4-bismorpholinyl-thieno [3,2-d]pyrimidine and 2-morpholinothieno[3,2-d]pyrimidinone derivatives were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their biological activities. Among them, compound A(12) showed the most potent antitumor activities against HCT116, PC-3, MCF-7, A549 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines with IC50 values of 3.24 mu M, 14.37 mu M, 7.39 mu M, 7.10 mu M, and 16.85 mu M, respectively. Further explorations in bioactivity were conducted to clarify the anticancer mechanism of compound A(12). The results showed that compound A(12) obviously inhibited the proliferation of A549 cell lines and decreased mitochondrial membrane potential, which led to the apoptosis of cancer cells and suppressed the migration of tumor cells.

Vitamin B-6-Pd(II) immobilized onto magnetic nanoparticles have been successfully prepared and applied for C-Xcross-coupling reactions with aryl halides in green deep eutectic solvents. Ozone pollution, which can be caused by photochemical reactions, has become a serious problem. The ozone formation potential (OFP) is used to describe the photochemical reactivity. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are main precursors of ozone formation, and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are important sources of VOCs. Therefore, it is necessary to study the concentration level and OFP of VOCs from WWTPs. In this work, a coking WWTP with anaerobic-oxic-oxic (A/O/O) processes in Shaoguan city, Guangdong province, China, was selected to investigate the characteristics of VOCs at wastewater treatment areas and office areas. The OFP of VOCs was estimated by the maximum incremental reactivity (MIR) coefficient method. Results showed that 17 VOCs were detected, and the total concentration of VOCs was the highest at the raw water tank (857.86 mu g m(-3)). The benzene series accounted for 69.0%-86.9% and was the main component of VOCs in the WWTP. Based on OFP data, the top six VOCs contributing most to the OFP were m-xylene, toluene, p-xylene, o-xylene, styrene, and benzene. This study provides field data and information on the environmental risk of VOCs for coking companies and environmental departments. We found that the priority control sources of VOCs were wastewater treatment units because of their larger OFP contributions.

Oxathiapiprolin is one of the best active fungicides discovered for oomycetes control. To develop a fungicide candidate with a broad spectrum of activity, 22 new piperidinylthiazole derivatives were designed and synthesized. Compound 51 showed the best activity against Pseudoperonospora cubensis (Berk. et Curt.) Rostov and Phytophthora infestans in vivo with 100% and 80% of inhibition, respectively, at 1 mg/L, and 72.87% of field efficacy against P. cubensis at 1 g ai/667 m(2) validated these results. Compound 5i exhibited a broad spectrum of excellent activity against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum with EC50 = 0.30 mg/ L (>10 times more active than oxathiapiprolin and azoxystrobin in vitro), good activity against Botrytis cinerea, Cercospora arachidicola, and Gibberella zeae with EC50 of 14.54, 5.57, and 14.03 mg/L in vitro and against P. cubensis and P. infestans with 60% and 30% inhibition rates, respectively, at 1 mg/L in vivo. Mode of action studies by RNA sequencing analysis discovered oxysterol-binding protein (OSBP), chitin synthase (CHS1), and (1,3)-beta-glucan synthase (FKS2) as the potent target of 5i against S. sclerotiorum. Quenching studies validated that OSBP was the same target of both 5i and oxathiapiprolin; it was quenched by both of them. Our studies discovered isothiazole-containing piperidinylthiazole as an OSBP target-based novel lead for fungicide development.

A bisoxazoline-derived NHC known as IBiox-6 reacted smoothly with Ni[P(OEt)(3)](2)Br-2 and Ni(PPh3)(2)Br-2 to give the respective heteroleptic Ni(II) complexes Ni(IBiox-6)[P(OEt)(3)]Br-2 (1) and Ni(IBiox-6)(PPh3)Br-2 (2) in yields of 60% and 71%. In particular, complex 1 showed a better balance between the catalytic activity and selectivity. The scope of the procedure catalyzed by 1 and Mg turnings was investigated, providing a highly selective, simple, and practical approach to the synthesis of diarylmethanes with high steric hindrance and various functional groups, including oligo-diarylmethane with asymmetric structures.

New Fe3O4@SiO2 core-shell superparamagnetic nanoparticles functionalized by a bis-salophen Schiff base Pd complex were synthesized and employed as an efficient magnetic nanocatalyst in the Heck and Sonogashira cross coupling reactions. The synthesized nanostructures were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), elemental analysis (CHN), cyclic voltammetry (CV), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis (BET), and UV-vis spectroscopy. The morphology and size of the nanoparticles were investigated by FE-SEM and TEM analyses. Furthermore, the magnetic properties of the catalyst were investigated by VSM analysis. The loading content and leaching amounts of palladium on the catalyst were measured by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analysis. Also, the thermal behavior of this magnetic heterogeneous catalyst was studied using a TGA instrument. This heterogeneous catalytic system showed a good performance in the coupling of aryl halides with alkynes (Sonogashira reaction) as well as aryl halides with alkene derivatives (Heck reaction). High to excellent yields were achieved for these C-C coupling reactions. The catalyst can be simply separated from the reaction media by an external magnet and reused for eight consecutive runs without any significant loss of activity. Finally, the kinetics of the reactions were studied in this work.
