Background The side reactions of dehalogenation or C-N coupling tend to occur when halogenated aromatic amines are prepared by catalytic hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds. In this paper, we prepared the sub-microspherical Fe3O4@PDA-Pd NPs catalyst apply it efficiently in the hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds to prepare the halogenated aromatic amines under atmospheric pressure. The catalyst shows a high selectivity of greater than 96% and can effectively inhibit the occurrence of the side reactions of dehalogenation and C-N coupling. Results The optimum condition of the hydroreduction reaction is when tetrahydrofuran is used as solvent and the reaction happens at 50 degrees C for 5 h. The selectivity of the chlorinated aromatic amine and the fluorinated aromatic amine products exceed 99% and the yield exceeds 90%. Only a small amount of dehalogenated products and C-N coupling by-products were produced in the brominated aromatic compound and the iodinated aromatic compound. Conclusion We developed a promising method for preparing the superparamagnetic and strongly magnetic Fe3O4@PDA core-shell sub-microsphere-supported nano-palladium catalyst for catalyzing the hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds. The halogenated aromatic amines were efficiently and highly selectively prepared under atmospheric pressure, with the side reactions of dehalogenation and C-N coupling effectively inhabited simultaneously.

The palladium-catalyzed coupling of aryl and heteroaryl chlorides with primary amides under mild homogeneous reaction conditions is reported. Successful C-N coupling is enabled by the use of a unique dual-base system consisting of DBU and NaTFA, which serve as proton acceptor and halide scavenger, respectively, using low catalyst loadings (0.5 mol %) with readily available, air-stable palladium precatalysts. The DBU/NaTFA system also enables the room-temperature coupling of primary aryl amines with aryl chlorides and is tolerant of a variety of base-sensitive functional groups.

The Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction is an effective process for C-C bond formation in organic synthesis. Herein, we report a NiO nanodot-decorated Pd/SiC catalyst, synthesized by atomic layer deposition, which shows high photocatalytic activity for the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of both aryl bromides and chlorides with phenylboronic acid at 30 degrees C in air. The Mott-Schottky contact in SiC/Pd enhances the rapid transfer of the photogenerated electrons from SiC to Pd nanoparticles. Moreover, the energy different between the highest occupied molecular orbital of the ultrafine NiO nanodots and the Fermi level of Pd forces a spontaneous electron transfer from NiO to Pd. As a result, the concentrated electrons in the Pd nanoparticles can facilitate the cleavage of C-Br or C-Cl bonds, which normally requires rather high temperatures in thermal processes. A new synthetic method toward direct C-N bond formation through saturated C-H amination of benzylic hydrocarbons and inactive aliphatic alkanes with primary aromatic amines under an inexpensive catalyst/oxidant (Cu/DTBP) system has been developed. Both aminopyridines and anilines could react smoothly with primary and secondary benzylic C-H substrates or cyclohexane to form the corresponding aromatic secondary amines in moderate to good yields. This protocol has the advantages of wide functional group tolerance and use of readily available raw materials.

A series of novel thiazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidin-7(6H)-ones (3aa-3eq) were designed, synthesized, and evaluated as the type I positive allosteric modulators of human alpha 7 nAChR expressed in Xenopus ooctyes by a two-electrode voltage clamp. The structure-activity relationship analysis identified the compound 3ea as a potent and efficacious PAM with the maximum activation effect of the alpha 7 current of over 1633% in the presence of acetylcholine (100 mu M) and an EC50 = 1.26 mu M. It is highly specific to alpha 7 nAChR over other subtypes of nAChR, 5-HT3A, NMDA, and GABA(A) receptors. Compound 3ea showed an elimination half-life of 10.8 +/- 1.5 h for 3 mg/kg, i.v., and 7.4 +/- 1.1 h for 60 mg/kg, i.g. in rat. It also exhibited sufficient blood-brain barrier penetration with no significant effect on hERG channel. Most importantly, compound 3ea dose-dependently (0.1-1 mg/kg, i.p.) reversed the prepulse inhibition deficit induced by MK-801 in the mouse schizophrenia model. X

We report the preparation and full characterization of a series of hydroxyl functionalized 1,2,3-triazolylidene- based PEPPSI complexes 2a-c and their catalytic application in the Suzuki cross coupling reaction of aryl chlorides/ amides with boronic acids. Under basic reaction conditions, complexes 2a-c show a notable increase in their catalytic efficiency compared with two ether-wingtip functionalized PEPPSI analogues (3 and 4) and a commercially available NHC-Pd complex (5). The catalytic results suggest that deprotonation of the hydroxyl group in complexes 2a-c plays an important role in the overall process. Deprotonation of the alcohol moiety of complexes 2a-b with sodium tert-butoxide allows for the isolation of metallacycles 6a-b, which are proposed as the active species of cross coupling reactions.

A visible-light photoredox catalyzed radical cascade cyclization of simple ethers with cyanamides is developed at room temperature. This strategy involves sequential inert C-sp3-H/C-sp2-H functionalizations through intermolecular addition reaction of oxyalkyl radicals to N-cyano groups followed by radical cyclization of iminyl radicals in situ generated with C-2 aryl rings. Supported palladium-gold alloy-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl chlorides and hydrosilanes enabled the selective formation of aryl-silicon bonds. Whereas a monometallic palladium catalyst predominantly promoted the hydrodechlorination of aryl chlorides and gold nanoparticles showed no catalytic activity, gold-rich palladium-gold alloy nanoparticles efficiently catalyzed the title reaction to give arylsilanes with high selectivity. A wide array of aryl chlorides and hydrosilanes participated in the heterogeneously-catalyzed reaction to furnish the corresponding arylsilanes in 34-80% yields. A detailed mechanistic investigation revealed that palladium and gold atoms on the surface of alloy nanoparticles independently functioned as active sites for the formation of aryl nucleophiles and silyl electrophiles, respectively, which indicates that palladium and gold atoms on alloy nanoparticles work together to enable the selective formation of aryl-silicon bonds.

The aim of this study was to strengthen the existing body of healthcare cost research by elucidating the charges associated with open and endoscopic treatment for patients with nonsagittal synostosis. METHODS The authors performed a retrospective analysis of data obtained in 41 patients who underwent open CVR and 38 who underwent EAC with postoperative helmet therapy for nonsagittal, single-suture craniosynostosis (metopic, coronal, and lambdoid) between 2008 and 2018. All patients were < 1 year of age at the time of surgery and had a minimum 1 year of follow-up. Inpatient charges, physician fees, helmet charges, and outpatient clinic visits in the 1st year were analyzed. RESULTS The mean ages of the children treated with EAC and open CVR were 3.5 months and 8.7 months, respectively. Patients undergoing EAC with postoperative helmet therapy required more outpatient clinic visits in the 1st year than patients undergoing CVR (4 vs 2; p < 0.001). Overall, 13% of patients in the EAC group required 1 helmet, 30% required 2 helmets, 40% required 3 helmets, and 13% required 4 or more helmets; the mean total helmeting charges were $10,072. The total charges of treatment, including inpatient charges, physician fees, outpatient clinic visit costs, and helmet charges, were significantly lower for the EAC group than they were for the open CVR group ($50,840 vs $95,588; p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Despite the additional charges for postoperative helmet therapy and the more frequent outpatient visits, EAC is significantly less expensive than open CVR for patients with metopic, coronal, and lambdoid craniosynostosis. In conjunction with the existing literature on clinical outcomes and perioperative resource utilization, these data support EAC as a cost-minimizing treatment for eligible patients with nonsagittal synostosis.
