Cocrystallization of the widely available 4-dimethylaminopyridine, with a series of carboxylic acids gave nine molecular adducts 4-dimethylaminopyridinium trifluoroacetate (1) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium glycolate glycolic acid (2) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 2-furoate dihydrate (3) , tri(4-dimethylaminopyridinium) tri(o-chlorobenzoate) tetrahydrate (4) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 4-bromobenzoate 4-bromobenzoic acid (5) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 4-formylbenzoate 4-formylbenzoic acid (6) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 2,4-dichlorobenzoate (7) , 4-dimethylaminopyridinium 2-aminobenzoate 2-aminobenzoic acid (8) and bis(4-dimethylaminopyridinium) 5-nitroisophthalate 5-nitroisophthalic acid methanol solvate (9) . The nine adducts have been characterised by X-ray diffraction, IR and elemental analysis, the melting points were also reported. Their structural and supramolecular aspects are fully analyzed. The result reveals that among the nine investigated crystals only the ring Ns in the 4-dimethylaminopyridine moieties are protonated when the carboxylic acids are deprotonated. The crystal packing is interpreted by the strong charge-assisted N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bond between the NH+ and the deprotonated acidic groups. Except the N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds, the charge assisted or neutral O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds were also found at 2-6, 8 and 9 . The COOH center dot center dot center dot COO- synthon has been at 2, 5-6 and 8-9. Further analysis of the crystal packing indicated that a different family of additional CH-O/CH2-O/CH3-O, F-F, Br-Br, CH-Cl, CH3-Cl, CH-pi/CH3-pi, C-H center dot center dot center dot C-pi, C-pi, Cl-O, O-C, O-pi and pi-pi contacts contribute to the stabilization and expansion of the total high-dimensional (2D-3D) framework structures. A series of novel indole derivatives containing double 1,3,4-oxadiazole moiety was designed, synthesized and evaluated for their antibacterial activities in vitro. These compounds were fully characterized by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and HRMS. Bioassay results indicated that most of title compounds exhibited excellent antibacterial activities against rice bacterial pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae (Xoo). For example, compounds 7d, 7h, 7i, 7j, 7k, 7l and 7m had the half-maximal effective concentration (EC50) values of 52.31, 54.12, 40.65, 38.80, 51.13, 52.75 and 50.66 mu g/mL, respectively, which was better than that of commercial product bismerthiazol (BMT) (85.18 mu g/mL). The experimental results proved that indole derivatives bearing double 1,3,4-oxadiazole unit are promising candidates for the development of new agricultural bactericides against pathogenic bacterium Xoo. The insect enzyme GH20 beta-N-acetyl-D-hexosaminidase OfHex1 represents an important chitinolytic enzyme found in the agricultural pest Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenee) and inhibition of this enzyme has been considered a promising strategy for the development of eco-friendly pesticides. In this article, based on the structure of the catalytic domains of OfHex1, a series of novel glycosyl triazoles were designed and synthesized via Cu-catalyzed azide-alkyne [3+ 2] cycloaddition reaction. To investigate the potency and selectivity of these glycosyl triazoles, the inhibition activities towards OfHex1 and HsHexB (human beta-N-acetylhexosaminidase B) were studied. Particularly compound 17c (OfHex1, K-i= 28.68 mu M; HsHexB, K-i > 100 mu M) exhibited a suitable activity and selectivity against OfHex1. Furthermore, the possible inhibitory mechanisms of 17c with OfHex1 were studied using molecular docking and MD simulations. The structure-activity relationship results as well as the formed binding patterns may provide promising insights into the further development of novel OfHex1 inhibitors.

Synthesis, temperature-dependent NMR structure investigation and utilization of a new, stable and easily accessible aryl-diadamantylphosphine ligand family is reported. The bulky and electron-rich phosphorus center of the ligand enhances the catalytic activity of palladium in cross-coupling reactions of sterically demanding ortho-substituted aryl halides. Chloroaluminate ionic liquids (ILs) have been immensely used as homogeneous catalyst in Friedel-Crafts reaction. We have recently synthesized chloroaluminate ILs by reacting aluminium chloride with a hydrophobic neutral ligand i.e. tributylamine (TBA:AlCl3). The current study elaborates on the investigations of the composition of the ionic liquids at various stages of their formation. The ionic liquids were synthesized using various mole ratios of tributyl amine and aluminium chloride in range of 1:1 to 1:2.3, in presence of an aromatic solvent in a one pot reaction. Various characterization techniques like Mass spectrometry, Al-27 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, P-31 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy were used to elucidate the formation of various moieties of the TBA:AlCl3 Ionic Liquid. This study also elaborates on the investigations of the cationic and anionic moieties and their structure-property relationship for various applications. Various Friedel-Crafts reaction of industrial importance were performed using the ionic liquid having (Al2Cl7)(-) moiety to assess its performance and compared with conventional processes. The synthesized products were characterised by sophisticated analytical techniques like H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, FTIR, GC-MS, GC-FID, to name a few. This class of ionic liquids also have importance in various electrochemical applications like aluminium deposition and aluminium batteries. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Chemoselective approaches were developed for derivatizing diastereoselective chromanone spiro-gamma-lactams through the Michael-type addition by using amide as a weak nucleophile to construct the spiro-carbon center under basic conditions. To expand the scope of this post-Ugi cascade reaction, a new series of oxidized chromone derivatives was synthesized by altering solvent from EtOH to DMF. Compounds 7 a and 7 b which could be synthesized in one day, demonstrated comparable anticancer activities with legendary anticancer drug paclitaxel in the PANC and U87 cell lines. This methodology offers a new approach to construct spiro-carbon centers with functionalized chromanones or chromones under mild reaction conditions.

A concurrent tandem catalytic (CTC) methodology has been developed for the amidation of aryl chlorides where the aryl chloride is first converted to an aryl iodide via halogen exchange and the aryl iodide is subsequently transformed into the aryl amide. A variety of aryl chlorides were converted to aryl amides in up to 85% isolated yield using 20 mol % CuI, 60 mol % N,N’-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine, 2.2 equiv of K2CO3, and 1.05-1.5 equiv of amide in acetonitrile at 200 degrees C after 0.75-1 h. The same copper/ligand system served as multifunctional catalyst for both steps of the concurrent catalytic process with iodide present in substoichiometric amounts. Mechanistic studies were consistent with CTC amidation occurring via a nonradical mechanism. Kinetic modeling was conducted to investigate the effect of competitive direct amidation of an aryl chloride or aryl bromide on the formation of product over time during a CTC amidation reaction.

Ozone pollution, which can be caused by photochemical reactions, has become a serious problem. The ozone formation potential (OFP) is used to describe the photochemical reactivity. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are main precursors of ozone formation, and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are important sources of VOCs. Therefore, it is necessary to study the concentration level and OFP of VOCs from WWTPs. In this work, a coking WWTP with anaerobic-oxic-oxic (A/O/O) processes in Shaoguan city, Guangdong province, China, was selected to investigate the characteristics of VOCs at wastewater treatment areas and office areas. The OFP of VOCs was estimated by the maximum incremental reactivity (MIR) coefficient method. Results showed that 17 VOCs were detected, and the total concentration of VOCs was the highest at the raw water tank (857.86 mu g m(-3)). The benzene series accounted for 69.0%-86.9% and was the main component of VOCs in the WWTP. Based on OFP data, the top six VOCs contributing most to the OFP were m-xylene, toluene, p-xylene, o-xylene, styrene, and benzene. This study provides field data and information on the environmental risk of VOCs for coking companies and environmental departments. We found that the priority control sources of VOCs were wastewater treatment units because of their larger OFP contributions.

While the synthesis of biaryls has advanced rapidly in the past decades, cross-Ullman couplings of aryl chlorides, the most abundant aryl electrophiles, have remained elusive. Reported here is the first general cross-Ullman coupling of aryl chlorides with aryl triflates. The selectivity challenge associated with coupling an inert electrophile with a reactive one is overcome using a multimetallic strategy with the appropriate choice of additive. Studies demonstrate that LiCl is essential for effective cross-coupling by accelerating the reduction of Ni(II) to Ni(0) and counteracting autoinhibition of reduction at Zn(0) by Zn(II) salts. The modified conditions tolerate a variety of functional groups on either coupling partner (42 examples), and examples include a three-step synthesis of flurbiprofen.
