Background The side reactions of dehalogenation or C-N coupling tend to occur when halogenated aromatic amines are prepared by catalytic hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds. In this paper, we prepared the sub-microspherical Fe3O4@PDA-Pd NPs catalyst apply it efficiently in the hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds to prepare the halogenated aromatic amines under atmospheric pressure. The catalyst shows a high selectivity of greater than 96% and can effectively inhibit the occurrence of the side reactions of dehalogenation and C-N coupling. Results The optimum condition of the hydroreduction reaction is when tetrahydrofuran is used as solvent and the reaction happens at 50 degrees C for 5 h. The selectivity of the chlorinated aromatic amine and the fluorinated aromatic amine products exceed 99% and the yield exceeds 90%. Only a small amount of dehalogenated products and C-N coupling by-products were produced in the brominated aromatic compound and the iodinated aromatic compound. Conclusion We developed a promising method for preparing the superparamagnetic and strongly magnetic Fe3O4@PDA core-shell sub-microsphere-supported nano-palladium catalyst for catalyzing the hydrogenation reduction of halogenated aromatic nitro compounds. The halogenated aromatic amines were efficiently and highly selectively prepared under atmospheric pressure, with the side reactions of dehalogenation and C-N coupling effectively inhabited simultaneously.

A silica-based network was used to immobilize ionic liquid-based ionogels and applied as a fiber coating for solid-phase microextraction (SPME). The ionogels were prepared by a sol-gel process, using two ionic liquids, triethylsulfonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([Set(3)][TFSI]) and 1-butyl-1-methylpiperidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([C(4)C(1)Pip] [TFSI]), as well as their equimolar mixture. Methyltrimethoxysilane was used as the sol-gel precursor, and trifluoroacetic acid as a reaction catalyst. The fabricated ionogel fibers were evaluated as sorbent coating in headspace SPME combined with gas chromatography with barrier ionization discharge detection for volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The fibers showed a high affinity to aromatic VOCs, yielding good sensitivity and precision. Then, the developed method was applied to the analysis of aqueous samples. During the study, the main extraction parameters, i.e., salt concentration, extraction time, and temperature, were optimized for maximum fiber sorption and to maximize the enrichment factors. The average limits of detection were found to be 0.15 mu g L-1, 0.40 mu g L-1, and 0.07 mu g L-1, and the enrichment factors were in the 25700-61000, 33200-84700, and 29100-96500 ranges for [Set(3)], [C4C1 Pip] and [Set(3)/C4C1 Pip], respectively. The single fiber and fiber-to-fiber reproducibilities were below 11.2% and 30.6%, respectively. The results of this work suggest the possibility of fabricating selected extractants based on the physicochemical properties of the ionic liquids and target analytes.

Dual effects of cathodic dechlorination and oxidative decomposition of 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,4-DCBA) can be achieved using electrochemical reduction-oxidation technology. The removal efficiency was improved by optimizing the experimental conditions affecting electrode activity and contaminant degradation. The 2,4-DCBA removal efficiency reached 90.8% at a current density at 50 mA.cm(-2), initial pH of 5, and sodium sulfate concentration of 0.05 mol.L-1, with a 2,4-DCBA concentration of 20 mg.L-1. Furthermore, a good total organic carbon removal efficiency of 81.6% was achieved in the electrocatalytic reduction and oxidation process, with the present system retaining high stability after many experiment cycles. The reaction mechanism under different conditions is discussed, which provides new approaches to the degradation of chlorinated organic compounds.

Three new N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-Pd(II) complexes using 5-phenyloxazole as the ancillary ligand have been obtained in moderate to good yields by a one-pot reaction of the corresponding imidazolium salts, palladium chloride and 5-phenyloxazole under mild conditions. Initial studies showed that one of the complexes is an efficient catalyst for the Buchwald-Hartwig amination of aryl chlorides with various secondary and primary amines under the varied catalyst loading of 0.01-0.05 mol%, thus it will enrich the chemistry of NHCs and give an alternative catalyst for the coupling of challenging while cost-low aryl chlorides. Graphitic carbon nitride materials have attracted significant interest in recent years and found applications in diverse light-to-energy conversions such as artificial photosynthesis, CO2 reduction, or degradation of organic pollutants. However, their utilization in synthetic photocatalysis, especially in the direct functionalization of C(sp(3))-H bonds, remains underexplored. Herein, we report mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride (mpg-CN as a heterogeneous organic semiconductor photocatalyst for direct arylation of C(sp(3))-H bonds in combination with nickel catalysis. Our protocol has a broad synthetic scope (>70 examples including late-stage functionalization of drugs and agrochemicals), is operationally simple, and shows high chemo- and regioselectivities. Facile separation and recycling of the mpg-CN catalyst in combination with its low preparation cost, innate photochemical stability, and low toxicity are beneficial features overcoming typical shortcomings of homogeneous photocatalysis. Detailed mechanistic investigations and kinetic studies indicate that an unprecedented energy-transfer process (EnT) from the organic semiconductor to the nickel complex is operating.

A copper-catalyzed one-pot amine-alkylation of quinones with amines and alkanes in the presence of di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP) was developed via a radical reaction process. Various alkanes and aromatic or aliphatic amines with diverse structures and electronic properties are suitable substrates, and the chirality of amines can be maintained for the transformation. This method has high step and atom economy for straightforward access to aminated and alkylated quinones from readily available starting materials.

In this study, a novel approach was developed for the dechlorination of 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,4-DCBA) via the combination of the moveable activated carbon (AC) supported palladium (Pd) nanoparticles and nickel (Ni) foam electrode. The morphology and chemical structure of Pd/AC catalyst was investigated by various characterization techniques, including SEM, TEM, EXS-mapping, XRD, and XPS. Pd nanoparticles was successfully loaded and dispersed on the AC, accompanied with the significantly enhanced reactivity. The removal rate of 2,4-DCBA by Ni electrode with moveable Pd/AC catalyst was 222, 25, and 5 folds higher than dispersed AC and Ni electrode system, chemical deposited Pd/Ni electrode, and electrodeposited Pd/Ni electrode, respectively. Compared with the conventional electrocatalytic reductive approach which deposited Pd on the Ni foam electrode, moveable Pd/AC catalyst possesses higher surface area, more atomic H* production and more active sites, favored mass transfer, and enhanced reactivity, without the consideration of catalyst loss and deactivation. The effects of Pd:AC mass ratio, constant current, initial solution pH, and electrolyte concentration on the dechlorination of 2,4-DCBA were studied. Generally, high Pd loading, constant current, and acidity favored the dechlorination of 2,4-DCBA, while excessive electrolyte would inhibit the dechlorination of 2,4-DCBA. Good longevity and recyclability of moveable Pd/AC catalyst was confirmed via consecutive experiments. The findings of the present study show that making the catalyst moveable is a promising strategy for electrocatalytic remediation technology.

An environmentally benign, one-pot diazotization and coupling reaction using ChCl: tartaric acid DES at room temperature is described.
